Gah ive been playing for a year, i can play some hard stuff made by other people. But i can never make any thing that sounds cool, thanks for this video im hopen itl help (:
I also have a question: If you have a backing track containing some chords which all add up to the notes of an A minor scale, can you play over it let's say A dorian? or A phrygian? Wondering if it wouldn't be dissonant because the modes have different notes than the backing track.
Or it will just be like you get every chord note at a time, and fill in the gaps using modes and changing the mode or approach over each chord?
@JS1200Player Yea altough i think this is more a Satch solo since Eric usually does a lot of fast pentatonics and a bit less diatonic scales.
Feel free to write back with your opinion and background thought. Would be cool woth a nice guitar disscussion were no one is arguing of who´s better Have a nice day
Thank you for great lesson! To apply modes to your two chord change I am starting at the root note G and playing a linear run up G Lydian/A Ionian. I can feel emotional texture of each mode but I do not know how to conjure it without playing straight up. ? Anybody have any insight?
Great lesson Andrew! Im curious, have you ever tried to calculate how many hours of practice you have done in your life? Technical practice with the guitar rather than study with pen and paper/books etc?
When I get into a progression like ex: C7flt5flt9, I usuallly move up a half step and use a Dflt Mjr Scale, But, go back one half step to C, and, that would be a Locrian.
Then move to B7dominant, And play the Mixolydian. If it's not altered. If it's altered I do the same thing as what I mentioned.
Or, What I use to do was Forget everything, And , just listen carefully, And don't think in terms of scales or anything, And, alot of times my left hand starts go to the right place. Not always

@GuitarsOfArp Thanks man. At 0:34, it just reminds me of Cliffs of Dover.

@JS1200Player Not the first time he's played something that is Eric Johnson inspired. An older video has a similar sound

Sounds like you were having a Slash inspiration there. Not sure if that's sort of what you were going for, but I can hear alot of similarities.
