i love how at the end when the horse falls over the fence and gets straight back up, the rider shouts "good boy!" and pats him. That was the only rider who did that.
ouch! The horses look fine right after they stumble, but then again, how fast are their hearts already beating from the endurance, and how much adrenaline is pumping through their veins? Even if they look fine, that's gotta hurt the next day!!!
dangerous much? honest horses though. i hate watching horses fail (literally, not your 'epic fail') at xc because the jumps are so damn hard. solid and in the most uneventful places. but the riders are so starved for the win that they keep them going. if my horse fell like that i'd be off and checking lameness. that's gotta hurt in the morning.
I hate it when the Riders make the horse jump something but whipping it then when it falls or hits the jumps they make it keep going.. not even a pat or anything.. i think thats mean.. The last rider may have smacked her horse before the jump, but atleast she was nice enough to pat him after he got up and kept going
Some of those looked painful for the horses, they hit their hindlegs on the jumps... Ouch... Brilliant riders though, I'd be gone just going over those jumps...
bc (and i dont no ANYTHING bout CC and this is just my thoughts) but is my horse landed on some of those jumps like those horses did, or fell liek tht. Id wanna pull it up and make sure its ok.....
but then again i guess ure on a time limit but i dont think itd b worth it if my horse was hurt.....but then thts just me
Well now they have "spotters" on the courses at international events. They can judge if a horse should be watched for signs of fatigue or injury and they have the ability to pull a horse out of competition.
all those ditch ones were suck awkward jumps. mu horse would have been scared shitless. =P and she's super honest. kudos to them for being incredible riders. and to those horses for saving both their asses.
same here i wouldn't want anything bad to happen i hope they checked for injuries u know . the horse could keep going and then a sprain or something might just pop out after the competition
I'm glad all the horses were ok! They're so willing. I'm glad almost all the riders pet the horses for reassurance. I love how they all clap for the horse at the end.
most patted there horses and usually when a fall or accident happens were to busey filling the horses movment for problems and talking to them to see if they need to resign or not
if u look he wold have run out the length and change of stride the face expression he was focusining on the jump too much and would thve braked at the last minute if she haddnt cought his attetion
Not neccesarily, it was probably backing off so the rider actually rode the fence instead of sitting there like a sissy waiting to grind to a halt. It just didint land in balence and toppled but i love how she pats it at the end you can hear her sayong "good boy!" makes me smile actually :)
ah dear. I think of a few riders caused those - inadvertently of course. It looked like a few when they cropped their horses it broke the horse's concentration on the jump and kind of messsed it up... I've never really been a fan of crops anyway.
And some of those horses were so good, they just kept going after those D:
...he's also one of the most accomplished riders in Eventing history. Perhaps it's best to know who you're talking about before you make yourself sound foolish?
I guess I didn't mean that HE was an idiot, but that posture was. I'm sorry, I do not get how pulling back that hard will help your horse. I understand he was off balance, but several riders do that anyway, off balance or not.
Sorry, that is my opinion. If it sounds foolish to you, I really don't mind. I just think people should start getting better positions in XC.
"If it sounds foolish to you, I really don't mind."
That's understandable.
To be honest, I rather doubt he would mind either-- at least until you too win two Olympic medals, medal in the World Equestrian Games, win three golds in the European Eventing Championships, and of course win Badminton... like he did. ;)
Anyone with any true experience in this game knows that "posture" as an absolute, is a construct for beginners, amateurs, and internet criticizers
Sure you have your Michael Matz and Beezie Maddens, who make it look like an equitation round over bigger fences... but if you've ever seen Margie Engle, Hugo Simon, or Roger Yves-Bost ride, you'd realize that posture is in no way indicative of a rider's ability to get optimum performance out of his horse, at the FEI level
very nicely made. but 3/4 of the horses that hit the fence..if that was me riding and i was the owner expecially, i would take the horses out of the competition to kept from possibly getting injured more. adn ik, its a TON of money to enter into that high level of competition!
Wow. In the first clip, that's one honest horse, they all are but to stand of and still make it over the last fence must have been hard and he still tried his little heart out to scramble over. x
I love the last clip =D realy good rider and horse :-) shame that event horses these days dont seem as versatile and tough as these...but thats the sport changing I guess :-)
The first horse is one in a million. An honest tryer with a heart of gold. Whoever has had the priviledge of owning or riding that horse should consider themselves honoured!
Sir Wattie was actually known for his saves-- have a couple of more clips of saves by that particular horse, just haven't included them... particularly seeing as he's already featured twice in this one!
You're not alone though-- I'll try any (show) fence that I know a horse is capable of clearing, and truth be told, have tried some that they probably weren't on all but a good day ;) ...but terrified to try anything higher than 2'6 or so, on crosscountry. 3' at the max, just don't like the fixed obstacles.
I blame the riders. There is not much you can blame on a horse no matter what... Whatever a horse does is a reaction to something. If the horse is hitting into jumps or lunging into the air, OBVIOUSLY you should stop. The horse will probably end up having leg joint problems. One day that horse will fall and the rider will take a bad fall. There is a perfect example of an imbecile riding a horse.
I have to disagree, you may think that putting your horse through the test of an International course is to harsh, but your horse is not an International eventer (apolagies if he is) but these horses are bred and built to do this, and they love it! Its all fair saying your ok with XC but not the bad bits, well it dosent work like that, the bad bits are part of it, and you cant escape the fact that people and horses WILL ALWAYS get injuries for as long as the sport continues.
I personally would never put ANY horse through that, regardless of its age, pedigree, breeding, or athletic prowess.
But then again, I feel the same way about GP level dressage. And of course, I understand that there are others who'd feel the same about my horses' jumping. But since we're speaking in matters of opinion here.......
This makes me cringe. Can anyone imagine what it must be like to whallop your legs against a wooden fence with this force? Take a look at 0:38sec for example.. Poor buggers. Gosh horses are fantastic creatures to put up with us at times. I'm ok with XC but the bad bits? I hate watching them. I feel sorry for the horses.
granted, I'd NEVER put any horse of mine through the rigors of 3 or 4 star XC... but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy watching others do it though-- both the spills and thrills!
