The referee did well. From the incidents I saw, all cards were well deserved. Players, including Muscat and Thompson, were pushing the boundaries.

It is just that Corica pushed the boundary in such a dumb and dangerous way. You don't stick your spikes into an opponent's calf when the whistle has gone and the ball is miles away. What did he expect!

BUT look at the quality of refereeing to that point. yellow cards flying about, even at 44secs there is a clear free kick not given on the edge of the area.
