  • This is my most favorite Song from SEAL too!! Crazy! I was on my way to college & just thinking that "this song is some great driving to class music", when I saw a standing sleeping horse in a farmers field, with it's breath in the air. It was a poignant & significant moment & solidified this song to be my number 1! Thanks for posting!

  • Lovely song. There was an acoustic but it was removed. I have one acoustic version but it's not the same. :(

  • @casper123 itunes sells it! :)

  • @jazzigurl1203 Thanks. From the "Rare collections"? Not sure if there was a couple of acoustic versions. I'm pretty sure there was. I bought the "Rare collection" version a while back. :)

  • the Laser Disc version of him performing this was removed as it "contains content from WMG"... and the world is a much sadder place for it...

  • On a rainy night.....

  • Such a fucking fantastic song.

  • probably the best Seal song...what a voice and what a vibe.

  • becoming a classic but its so good how can i tell you................

  • Yeah, it sounds like some comments from some old picture or t.v. show. I discovered this song while I was attending college at The University of Alabama. I would especially like to hear it when it was raining. I'd go get in the rocking chair on the front porch and smoke one and drink a glass of wine. Talk about you troubles 'melting away'. Incredible emotional conjuring with this song...

  • If you like this video then you will love Seal - Violet (SM DPR 2K11 House Remix) .........

  • One of the most magical, amazing compositions ever. Love this record so much. It ('s only love that) gets me through..... thank u Seal and Trevor Horn. genius.

  • @fayeslover ,-_-,

  • acoustic version, much better

  • Dreamy song to make love to.

  • @maven1818 Mmmmm, hmmmm.....:) I used to think the same thing many a year ago when I first bought this CD

  • I used to" loop" this song in my cd player at night and fall asleep to this while watching the needles on the amp (in soft blue) dance back and forth ......ahhh the memories!!!

  • I first this tune walking along the santa monica pier on my walkman in 1995. The peaceful melodic sound goes perfectly with the scenery of the beach on a warm southern california afternoon.

  • I first this tune walking along the santa monica pier on my walkman in 1995. The peaceful melodic sound goes prefectly with the scenery of the beach on a warm southern california afternoon.

  • a perfect ending to a perfect album. will never be without this.

  • @daz636 Totally agree with you

  • i have never ever stopped loving this song never!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have had so many dreams...where I meet Seal in person. Maybe I get stuck on an elevator with him. Maybe I see him in passing in New York City one day. Maybe after a concert. And I think of all the things I would love to say to him. And of all the things I would want to say and do......I would start off by telling him how this song, Violet.....showed be a beauty that I didn't know existed. I heard this for the first time when I was 13 years old. It impacted me greatly.

  • Violet is not only my favorite Seal song but, one of my all-time favorite songs. When I go into that next life I want this song to take me there. When I hear it, my mind goes in so many different and wonderful directions. I truly LOVE this song.

  • @stewizm1 Couldn't possibly agree with you more. This song is perfection.

  • @stewizm1

so totally agreed. I could die to this song....and hope i do.

  • This not only my favorite Seal song but, one my all-time favorites. When I go into that next life, I want this song to be playing because it takes me in so many different directions. I truly LOVE this song.

  • This song is magic! Every time I hear it I'm transported back to a time --can't believe it's 20 years ago now -- when I was living in Finland and listening to this CD constantly. Still a perfect perfect rainy day chill out song.

  • This song has been one of my all time favourites for 20 yrs now, its so moving I am transported into my past, holidays when I was a kid and I had this one and only album on cassette (remember those!?) to a time when my father was still alive, and that makes me cry, its one of the only things left that makes me feel close to him, thankyou Seal xx

  • @2011gcs well said . i could not put it better myself. this song means so many things to me. and you too.

  • "i'll speak to her, leave her" and "got to go to hospital, but will they take me in?"....... what movies are those samples from?

  • @dvnupldr i have wondered that for 20 years... not sure i want to know now...

  • Love the song....from Brazil

  • This first album from Seal - I actually brought on cassette tape. I was deep into hip hop when this came out (1991). I heard "Crazy" on the radio and just declded to take a chance. I never ever purchased any "pop" music this was the first one it remains one of best. (his first 3 LP's are all classiscs to me - After the 4th he lost a little steam to me). But the last 2 songs "Show Me" then "Violet" blew me away.

Seal has a lot of great songs but this one is the best.

  • This is my favorite song of all time!!!!! It has been clasic since day one (1991) and still sounds relevant today. I play and sing this song for my children when i rock them to sleep. For 20 years this song has topped my charts

The harmony, feeling, voice, music, takes me there every time I hear it.

This is a extaordinary song from Seal.

  • And i forgot to mention that i've listened to this album and Violet in particular at least once a day since the album was released...think about that...for 20 YEARS!!! Still can't get enough!!!

  • What an amazing song to end a brilliant album! I can't believe it's 20 years old!! Still sounds as fresh and mezmarising as the first time i experienced it! And trent730 i must agree with you, best SEAL song ever.

  • timeless music...i still luv this song...

  • This is one of the most wonderful songs I've ever listened. The balance between silence, harmony, melody and rythm is simply perfect. The most night-time dreamy deep pop song I've ever listened to.

Other similar ones: 'Moonlight Shadow' (Mike Oldfield), 'Your Latest Trick' (Dire Straits), 'Are You Sitting Comfortably?' (The Moody Blues), 'True to Life' (Roxy Music).

  • Thank you...

  • And if I told you then that I could cry

Would you take my tears and wash the sunrise

A man afraid has no shame

So when you take those tears don't look to see I'm alright

    look to see I'm alright

When you take those tears don't look to see I'm alright

Yeah, just chillin'. Let me go and dance with my wife. Thanks for posting this!

  • This song is a testament to extrodinary song writing and "in the pocket groovin." Still after 20 years + this song is still fresh. My own children now 17, 15 and 11 ask to play it. This is what I mean when I say "real lasting music." One of his best. Thanks Seal. Wow, after 20 years....

  • Can't you just hear this as a duet with Sade?

  • This is DexterBoy124's favorite song.

  • I can listen to this a million times and I still lurve it, it's ironic because this was the only track on the album I didn't really care for but I decided to leave it playing this one time and I don't know I appreciated it a lot more and ever since then it's been my favourite song ever

  • Timeless Seal!...all time fav track...

  • My favorite Seal song is Prayer for the Dying, but this one, Violet, is probably my 2nd favorite, and it's the most poignant one of his I think.

  • smoothhhthhh..

  • layed back chilling to this song but what movie is it when they speak of it being the 2nd time he didnt die go ahead they will know, know what that im not like anyone else. what does that come from.

  • Nothing better than opening the window on a rainy day, lighting a few candles, and cleaning up your apartment while listening to this... if you're single, that is.

  • my favorite Seal song

  • Our Mum and Dad's first date was a Seal gig in Brixton Academy. What a brilliant track this is

  • thank you for posting this song! (i fell in love with this album, too!) ; )

  • University days, 1992

  • The talking half way through the song what film is it from?

  • @jellis4465 the movie is called the sicilian with the highlander christopher lambert and john tuturro. i have seen it like five times and that is why i caught it...otherwise i would have said wha....

  • @grimlock1211 cheers thanks for that.

  • What is it about this song that makes me chill out so well. It has never lost its calming effect from the first time that I ever heard it. Was the talking bits from the song taken from a movie? This is the best SEAL song ever. Thanks.

  • @trent730 I totally agree! I fell in love with this CD while on visiting my aunt in Germany and I've been a Seal fan ever since, but Violet...is my favorite song by him. It's so tranquil and beautiful and til this day I listen to it often.

  • @trent730 - YES!!!!!!

this was the first song of Seal I heard in the 90s and my favourite till then

(haven't even heard about chillout by that time :)

  • Comment removed

  • @trent730 The film sampled in the song is called 'The Sicilian' from 1987. I always wanted to know why Seal chose this film?

  • @trent730 He used lines from the movie 'The Sicilian': "Why do want to do that? No one else ever has.....Because I'm not LIKE anyone else"...:) It's IS a 'calming' song, right.

  • @trent730 seal is wonderful

  • This song used to put me so much at ease at a time long ago when i was so stressed out haha....classic song here.....

  • Great song. Even though I had the CD, I never remember the name of this one! I lived in Italy with my navy husband when I first heard it. It's a very warm, soothing, and elegant song. Thank you!
