thats all deaf people remember....deaf president now! and ever since they havent protested shit....fucking grunting monkees....ugghhh fucking retards!
King and Fernades twisting the facts and spinning thru media.. their lies.. Audists were not welcome and yet Gallaudet still have a long way to go.. Look at HurTwiz hand picked as an audist by the BOT as an Elite Subaltern.. Read Paddy Ladd's book on Deafhood, and Wake up! Your protesting failed big time!!! Time to make Gallaudet an ASL Deaf Centered University... Make it Clerc University cause it's supposed to be run by Deaf who accepted their Deaf Identity within the core values period!
The issues were that while choosing a new president for the university the committee chose the one person that the rest of the community had voted against. She was not a good leader of and was a part of the older administration (which is probably why they chose her in the first place).
The "not deaf enough" ploy is one that Fernandes told the media, and it took off from there. That was not even close to being one of the issues.
What happened is a protest that eventually shut the campus down for a few days. Fernandes was asked to step down, the protest ended, and Robert Davila was chosen as president.
I understand the first protest but this one is ridiculous. I am sick and tried of the deaf community bitching about hearing people oppressing them then they do it to their own by saying this person is not deaf enough.
From the past, today is really terrible. I don't really feel like hearing about it ever again because the president doesn't have any relationship with the dear community either. She is DEAF and should have known better - she should take more linguistics of the deaf, but chose not to do that at all.
Yes I just learned about this too. Have I been so away that I did not even knew about it in the news. When Jordan was chosen as president I heard about it.Where was I? What ever happened?I am not a Gallaudet, she seems to be an attractive caring person whey wasn't she given a chance.
The majority of faculty, staff, and students did NOT want Fernandes as president, as shown through polls before the decision. It was said that the preference of those groups would be considered in choosing the next president....so it was a real slap in the face when they chose her. Plus she was not a very good leader. She was chosen because she was IKJ's right hand women, not because of her qualifications. And its a good thing she was removed because a lot of issues have been uncovered.
You are probrably right, she would have probrably done better if she did not become defensive...It is difficult to think in those terms. I would have defended the people that got arrested and find ways or not scalating the issues.Instead, appears that she got worse the more she was criticize. She most have gotten a few people piss off during her tenure at Galladet.Did't go to school there but I did go to the campus.Nice place congratulations.
D: wow protest w/ sign language.
