Cilantro is not aka coriander, at least not in the U.S. Coriander is the seed, cilantro is the plant or leaves that that grow from the seed. The tastes are completely different. Corainder is corainder, cilantro is cilantro. For culinary intents & purposes, they're 2 completely different things.
My parents have close to 100 pineapple plants here in Florida and I will tell you that the tips of the leaves drying out has nothing to do with ripeness, only that it has been a long time since the pineapple was harvested and it's drying out. Smell is a good way to determine if it's a good one if you have to buy them commercially. If you are in an area where they grow, there is nothing like one left on the mother plant until it's golden orange.
@quasim0do Most fruits and vegetables are harvested before they are fully ripe. Ever seen green bananas? Buy those, take them home and they'll ripen in a few days.... For the most nutrition, it's best to grow and pick your own fruits and vegetables when they have fully ripened on the plant but most of us do not have that luxury so we buy them at the store and let them ripen at home if they aren't already ripe when we buy them.
@kcijmon I know all about that. Pinapple is a bit different from what I understand though. I've learned that the ripening process stops completely once it has been harvested, and that fully ripe ones are too sensitive to be shipped long distances.
I've never been able to ripen a pineapple at home.
@kcijmon I live on Oahu Hawaii and the pineapple here is so wonderful and sweet. I buy it at Costco already cut up. I use pineapple every morning in my breakfast smoothie.

a little trick I learned to hasten the ripening process! :)
Take the fruit, wrap it up in a brown lunch bag like thing (thing?) and store it away in a dark cabinet for one day.
Day 2: voila. le ripened fruit!
I've been told if it's really easy to pull the pineapple "leaves" (or I guess hair?!) out of the top, it's ripe as well.

Are you sure about leaving pineapple out to ripen?
As far as I know, the ripening process stops when they are harvested. That's why they should be bought ripe.
I could be wrong though.

Oh. I've never had an issue ripening a pineapple at home. I just leave it out on the counter and check it every other day or so.
