  • I'm on Chuck Berry's side, i like Keith Richards but he doesn't have a clue, CHUCK BERRY INVENTED ROCK AND ROLL ! Richards is out of his league to tell Chuck Berry how to play ! The proof is in the pudding; Chuck Berry's sound in this video eats Keiths Richards' weak sound for breakfast. Chuck = Righteous

  • steve jordan?! O.e 2:57

  • am i the only one who feels sorry for keith. chuck you're being a jackass! loosen up and have fun man. thats what music is about. for the listener and player.

  • One "living legend" who basically played the same riff throughout a couple of dozen amazing classics then produced some of the most ripoff, god-awful concerts of all time, arguing with another "living legend" who has written and played dozens of classics and given thousands of amazing, heart-pounding performances for nearly 50 years and continues to do so. Chuck is a legend, but Keith is a God! Try to make Chuck a few more bucks because no one else will even have him and he gives you this crap?

  • Keith Richards is so doped up that he doesnt even know if he's coming or going! lmao

  • chuck berry is just toying with him soo much

  • Two legends arguing, fantastic and they both make perfect sense, the sound comes out good in the end. At least one of them didn't unplug and storm out of the room and go home saying he's better, HA HA LOL!

  • ahahaha coupla cocks goin at it

  • chuck berry is an asshole, someone shouldve taken him out w/ a punch

  • DON'T TOUCH MY AMP ! :))

  • nobody talks to keith like that and gets away with it!

  • Why even bother

  • Having seen Chuck three times life in different decades I must say that he really was a musical dictator to all the musicians he played witth. Bad atmosphere was darkening these events. A genius in his own way, he is a badass to other people.

  • Dueling guitars.

  • Chuck - 85 years old and still playing. I wonder if Keith will make it that far ...

  • @harryf200 Keith has been 85 years old for the past 3 decades......

  • @lylec ROFLOL and wet myself !!! :¬)

  • Wow, lot of angst in that room! I've been in a few rehearsals with that atmosphere - not nice places to be. Just makes you want to run outside into the fresh air and scream!

  • thumbs up for Steve Jordan on the set!

  • @zzwayer Hhaha, never noticed that before! What a drummer he is; always in the pocket!

This is a hilarious video too! The ego is a powerful thing...

  • Recording is all kinds-a different than playing live. Keef is right.

    1) Play this part all the way through the track.

    2) Play this other part all the way through the track.

    3) Even if you can play both of those parts, do one of 'em at a time.

    4) Recording is a completely different mess than playing live.

  • @DeenoMarteeno But get this straight. Chuck Berry said, yeah, but I did it .So, saying it can not be done, does not make sense to him. Even though, seriously he should know better. This is funny.

  • Chuck is not very bright. He doesn't comprehend the slightly abstract principle at work here. He's a performer who plays to what he hears in the air where he is at the moment. He's always functioned that way. Producers and engineers have always kindly worked around his intellectual limitations. Two great rockers here, but two very different men from two different worlds.

  • i wonder what would happen if hendrix jammed with chuck and got chewed out like that....hahaa

  • Laughed my arse off when I first saw this...yeah Chuck's picky but it's paid off I'd say.

  • He's one of the pioneers of rock and roll, but Chuck Berry seems like a total douche bag.

  • keef looks older than mr berry..

    \ Drugs /

  • To some this wouldn't be hilarious but I found the hilarity when Chuck filled in where Keith kept messing up the bends.......

  • Chuck's a perfectionist. Kieth, not so much. For Chuck to dickily insist Kieth mimick every nuance of slur & bend is pompous and bad for musical collaboration. Artists are free, no, EXPECTED to interpret another artist's song into their own style and feel - that's where the soul comes in. That makes it interesting. Besides, Chuck went to prison for putting camera's in the women's bathroom of a restaurant he owned. Fail.

  • Don't mess with chuck....or he won't play and he has walked out on sessions before. They asked him, he didn't go to ask if he could jam with them.

  • this is further proof that chuck is one of the biggest scumbags in the biz, neck and neck with Al DeMiola, Van Morrison and Richie Blackmore.

  • Chuck sounds exactly like like Samuel L Jackson. I keep waiting for him to yell "Dont touch my mutherfuckin' amp!"

  • chuck berry is the king of rock and roll

  • Kinda makes you wonder if Picasso and Dali ever got into pissing matches..

  • Genius

  • much rock is akin to manual labor.

  • is Keith on heroin at this point?

  • @TopGunJAB you bet he is

  • @TopGunJAB No. Around 1980 he got clean. Check Keith's infamous 1974 interview : now that's Keith on heroin xD.

  • legends

  • Love it..... they are like to tom cats prowling around

  • Deve ta tentando aprender Carol até hoje kkkkkk

  • chucks a f**cking Legend, Hands F*&king down.......... Keith ain't to bad neither.........

  • some things or personalities (like in this case) are better left in the dark lol

  • this has prompted me to say: "dude, eat a snickers. Every time you get hungry you start acting like chuck berry" when I'm jamming with similar personalities.

  • @greengreen2700 hahahaha yes!

  • I can see both men's points here. Keith was trying to get the best sound for the movie & posterity because as he put it " you're going to have to live with it" and "it's gonna be there when you're dead and gone". Chucks pride got hurt by the guy messing with his amp which is understable but Chuck always gets a shit sound lol. Anyway it is amusing to see this spat. And another thing Chuck got his revenge on Keith by correcting him on the Carol intro lol

  • I'm experienced as a guitarist with live and studio work.

Keith has a very good point. When you're recording, the sound that you hear live is not the one you're going to get on tape. The live sound you hear is determined by the room and where you are in it. You could try using different settings, mics or a combination of mics.

I've recently had to record with my amp and had to use some fucked up settings to get it sounding the way I like on tape.

Even still, don't touch another man's amp!

  • @suroj hold on you recorder actually on tape?...or you are just sayin that but in fact you mean digital recording?...im curious cause im into recordin and sound guitar playin too :)

  • @Groove1993 Yeah, tape or digital. Everything is digital now but you do have the option to use tape when at older studios who have the old school tape recorders. Down to personal preference really but digital is a lot easier and far cheaper than tape.

  • @suroj i know its easier and cheaper, but if u got the time and the money, its really more...you know :D...always better tape...its closer to the music :D

  • @suroj I think it's obvious that Keith's right, but Chuck doesn't care if he's right, I assume Chuck might even change it later, he just wants to prove his dominance. Good point though: don't touch another man's rhubarb.

  • @suroj hey man he's earned his right to be a Diva at least Keith recognizes his divine right.. right? just sayun

  • Comment removed

  • Don't mess with another man's amp. And why the strat? Would of been better with the tele

  • Chuck can say and do whatever the frig he wants when it comes to HIS music !!!

  • Just like an English man to come over here and change our music forever, Sup with that? Ha Ha love the video! It's just raw........Peace

  • Chuck totally stole Keith's little lead of the intro.

  • Chuck is all about instinct... and here comes Keef trying to be all precise: "I'll do the fills on only these 2 verses..." Come on, man... Chuck is all about feel and instinct; trying to restrict him in such precises terms won't work. He's going to get up doing what he wants to do.

  • chuck berry threw a fit like the real first rock star would

  • A battle of the egos; great post...

  • Gotta say, Sam Jack, no. Maybe Chris Rock. And you say little girl; I say the guy that invented the sound can play it however he wants. And, any musician should know; you don't f* with someone's equipment/instrument without out asking. Not even touch, much less change settings.

  • @regmark yeah? how hard is it to turn some knobs back after...?

  • Chuck is such a little girl here

  • @BenKey4 No, he is just showing the way. It's an insult of KR to come up so wasted.

  • Is that Steve Jordan on drums?

  • @handidrummed yes it is Steve Jordan.

  • Chuck Berry portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson anybody?

  • @hunter2979 hahah yeah!

  • @hunter2979 Or maybe we're just narrow minded and think every tall skinny angry black man is like Samuel L Jackson

  • Just play like Chuck fucking says!~ he wrote the shit! You bought the records in England now play it right. Keith and the stones got lazy live and dont sound even a little like their own records, even the feel is not there. Berry's feel and vibe is there. He's making keith sweat ahahaha See how fresh Chuck looked at the end and Keith is all red lol

  • Chuck plays sweet!

  • Hey. If you got screwed as much as Chuck you might get it. Read a bio. U think KR would take that crap from anyone else? 2 great geeters & K idolizes C. KCRazor

  • Greatest Version Of "Carol"!!

  • Chuck seems to have a hair across his ass today, and Keef can't take direction.

  • Chuck don't mess around! Once he sucker punched Keith but, Richard's never went down LOL..

  • Best rock n roll documentary ever.

  • steve jordan on drums?

  • Chuck Berry's one bad ass mother fucker

  • i heard springsteen say once that he played a show with chuck.... bruce showed up early to rehearse before the show. chuck looked at him like he was crazy and said, "the first song is rehearsal, the second song is the show." then he turned and walked away

  • Happy birthday KEEF!

    God bless ya man...

  • He's right that most good artists don't think they're that good. Hendrix didn't think he was that good either.

  • chuck's always been hard to work with even in his chess years... he may have an ego but with out it.. perhaps his sound wouldn't have been the same.

  • egos....

  • There's a certain animosity under the skin here. I don't get what Chuck's deal is here. Unless there was something before this I missed. Kieth seems sincere. Hell, I like Chuck's guitar work. Got nothing against him, but ....is he a jerk?

  • "I ain't dyin'" HAHA

  • Carl Perkins was so loved by the people he worked with, whether it was live or in the studio. None of this King of Rock mentality.

  • Great video. Classic. Wish everyone could see it.

  • Keith Richards about got his ass kicked!

  • @bled3030

Generally seen as the most dull job you can do, because it's all numbers...

This is of course far from the truth, just ask Al Capone!

  • Well known in the music industry that berry is an arsewipe who likes to upstage/putdown anyone. Total C**t

  • keith richards loves black people

  • Comment removed

  • If only our politicians could work for the better good, just ever so briefly, like Keith and Chuck, both totally buzzed, but working for the greater good. Rock rules.

  • Whitey guys trying to be chuck doesn't work.

  • @spareaxe Racist much?

  • @spareaxe except the white Chuck. he can be whoever the f**k he wants, but he won't cause that's not the way he rolls

  • chuck berry's a bit of a jackass/ asshole

  • @ThisIsS000Sad ...Who's not ? Compared to Berry,Richard's a lucky devil upstart.☠,who get's more & more media horny ,with each passing year.

  • @PAULLONDEN this is true as well

  • @ThisIsS000Sad ...Very much the asshole!

  • keith richards totally copycat's chuck berry , if it wasn't for mr chuck berry nobody would know the rolling stones , now thats a fact . never forget that peepss

  • @erpvb That ain't but what Keff says anyway.

  • @strand97 just sayin'

  • @erpvb oh yeah i know that, i am certainly not denying his musical genius, just saying i've heard he's not the nicest/friendliest person around

  • @ThisIsS000Sad

you said it he got i a famous bluse :P

  • i aint diein, no i aint dieing!

  • steve jordan still got the smile

  • he sounds like samuel l jackson abit haha

  • Keith did a great job on this show. Chuck Berry doesn't sound this good on his own!

  • what the fuck does he say about michelangelo in the beginning?

  • @tilloch29 "Michaelangelo probably thought he was third rate too."

  • @Nayson Yes, it just means that Michaelandgelo knew he was a capable sculpter but not the genius that we see him as today, just someone with a certain skillset...

  • 1:50 lol not many saw that expression I think and left unscathed

  • musician's ego's priceless!!!

  • i wonder if keith has gotten that lick down by now yet

  • Careful Keef, or Chuck will drop his drawers and launch a rectum rocket across the stage at you!

  • i saw this amazing special on PBS a while back...i often wondered though why Berry decided on Richards? Of course, I know now after watching the special how good a guitarist Richards is...never been a stones fan...but I gained a ton of respect for Richards after this.

  • @GrizzlTooth

if I recall correctly it was Keith's project- Chuck was the subject. Keith seems to have immense respect for the players who laid the groundwork.

  • it's gonna be around after we are all dead and gone--well i ain't died lol

  • @ramirov97 He said "well I aint dying".

  • Comment removed

  • Chuck is totally right. First of all, Keith couldn't play that intro riff properly. Second, if Chuck wants to hear the sound of the amp the way he likes it, it's up to the engineer to work with it. Friggin put a mic on it! Third, Keith has built his whole style on what Chuck Berry helped create and made a fortune off of it. Fourth, Chuck is a better guitar player. If I were Chuck, I would expect Keith to shut the fuck up too.

  • @johnnyblotter unreal man, your right on the money jack! imagine a sound engineer telling chuck berry how to sound! haha wow

look at that tho, two of the biggest ego's in rock butt'n heads! the rest of the band look bummed, id be in awe

  • man that sound of the drums, bass and piano is like a pillow of a golden God.

  • Chuck is GREAT! :)

  • Hard to believe that both Keith and Chuck are still alive nearly 20 years after this- especially Keith.

  • even keef gets a lesson sometimes ....

  • Comment removed

  • How would like to be a studio musician in the middle of those two?

  • How can you argue with the guy that wrote, "Johnny Be good"? Chuck Berry is the reason all of us weekend warriors can go out and hammer out Rock'n'Roll on our Gibsons, Gretsches, Fenders, or whatever guitars every Friday and Saturday night.

  • Great Vid!

    "... I ain't dying man." :) I count on that Chuck!

  • @ oioikanone Ha ha ha, that made me chuckle :-)

  • by 4:20 even i got it

  • They got there in the end, Keith is getting a bit of his own treatment here, he's usually the boss musically. Chuck Berry is well known for being difficult &

there were endless takes on his records. They obviously respect each other.

  • So true

  • !!!!WTF!!!! EGO'S AT 20 PACES?

  • It was just a bad idea getting them together.

It could have been a genius idea but it just didn't turn out that way.

Both of them got out of the wrong side of Lady Gaga's bed that day

  • @phillyvinilli You don't know your rock history and to even mention Lady Gaga with two of the greatest rock legends that had ever lived is an insult in itself. Please child, sit back and learn yourself something.

  • chuck is a moody fuck!!!

  • This is priceless. Thanks for sharing.

  • rock n roll is chuck berry not elvis presley

  • @lmizuki5 chuck berry may be rock and roll but he may be rock and roll because of elvis presley. read his bio and you will see that even chuck said so.

  • I just saw chuck in Easton Pa. last night and I ran a play back of this video in my head because he stopped twice last night to correct on of the musicians on stage just like this. I couldn't stop laughing. Chuck's 85 now and his presence was just mind blowing. He still showed that spark that made him the man for ever. Live on Chuck we love you.

  • Chuck Berry is the Man. Know your place Keef and show some respect.

  • Chucky is great, but keith and stones made rock n roll what it is today, believe me....he surely knows his place.....o.s

  • 5:17 DONT TOUCH MY FUKKIN AMP!

  • That's authentic rock n' roll backing! Something you don't hear very often.

  • 2 great lots of tone right there.

  • The guitar lick was as simple as could be. Perhaps if Richards wasn't drinking a friggin' beer he would have been able to get the fucking thing down...

  • Comment removed

  • @jimmylee123able Naw man, Keith isn't in the least bit egotistical. He wears a freaking skull ring to remind himself we're all the same underneath.

  • u can see it chuck played with anger in the heart he`s trying to get that message across in his own way,

    both great guitarists,

you play chucks song do it how he like it though>

  • i wonder how many people have put their life into their craft the way these two have!fuck you arrogant condisenters.

  • When two egotistical bastards get together.

  • Awkward.

  • Chuck Berry Crazy Old Bastard!!!

  • When keith was born do you reckon his mum said " what the fuck is that on my son's arm?", and the doctors say " ma, its a guitar".

  • Johnny Johnson is a blues/rock piano god!

  • I just smile and do the african face- Drummer.

  • " I aint dyin....I aint dyin "

  • Thank you for this,,,it is priceless. Love the Berry!

  • Chuck, he has been around ever since I bought my first record, and Carol still sounds as sweet then as it did then. What a guy.

This is a brilliant clip, and Keith on here reminds me of /watch?v=nY4isQVSgDg

    Great music never dies.

  • What I like about this clip is that Chuck knows what he wants. Keith tried to deliver but couldn't. Chuck overlooked him and played what he wanted/needed to hear! Chuck is playing Chuck and Keith is realizing the he IS NOT Chuck..... Guitar lesson caught on tape!

  • fuck you and fuck you again you fucking bitches, Im never gonna watch a cunt like Chuck cunt Berry talk to the man, the one and only Keith Richards like a bitch, that fucking cunt I hope he's swimming in his own piss, have fun you fucking cunt Chuck

  • if Chuck Berry says dont do it, theres a reason, cause Chuck said so..

  • Chuck Berry is such a perfectionist and thats where his music has rocked the world. Its great to know hes not someone who does something lack luster....Love his music and seeingthis Chuck and Keith Richards together, it just shows two music greats together and I would have loved to be sitting in on this session.

  • @MrStoney2011 Berry is no perfectionist - not by a long shot. But Richards couldn't get the simplest lick down and became frustrated...No big deal...

  • the drummer was so happy LOL......... awesome

  • Keef playing a Strat is just plain wrong.

  • Chuck's the master! Keith is,......well, ok...

  • this is hilarious :P

  • i saw Chuck Berry in concert in the 1990's and he behaved in exactly the same way as he does in this film. Do you know why? Because he is Chuck Berry and we should all be thankful for him. I am!

  • Chuck Berry is the best dude you can image! ... But if you dare to touch his amp he will morph into a demon that follows you all your life long !!
