@blondegraemey Do you buy tested transistors or bulks and test them yourself?.How much leakage would be good for this circuit and how is it measured??.
P.s.:Great video.I would love to build a pedal like that if i had knowledge and skills
@TR1VO5 It's more expensive to buy fuzz. I built a Fuzz Factory for under 30$ when the original from Zvex sells for 275$ and over depending on the model you get. Fuzz are pretty easy pedals to make and require very few parts. Zvex sells for a lot because his FF pedal can make a lot of weird stuff and his pedals looks cool. But the parts are inexpensive to get.
i was wondering if you could give me web pages with info or anything at all
any information on different resister, capacitors, diodes, transistors, potentionmers and how they very and such. where to get these and the "boards" they go on and how to get the ones i want.
You can use PNP transistors with a power supply but you must reverse the polarity and make sure you do not power NPN Negative ground pedals from the same power supply. G
this is absolutely the -best- sounding fuzz pedal I've ever heard--sounds better than the original! I would love to learn to make it. Did you get this particular schematic off the internet?
did you make your own vero layout? Just out of curiosity. I've been looking around, but I can't find the one you used (found a lot of the other material shown though!)
I didn't use vero board with this pedal, It is point to point wired just like the originals. I can't remember where I got all the info from now, it was a while ago. G
hey, i'm gonna build a fuzz as my 1º diy pedal ( imma do it with a friend that is in an electronic oriented school) and i was wondering if this one has the positive ground (i've read it at tonepad) and if it does how will it interfeer with my other negative ground pedals...
This is a positive ground pedal. You can use it with other neg ground pedals but they can not share the same power supply. Running a them on batteries is fine. G
Hey Graeme, just wondering if you could tell me what drill / drill-bit your are using to drill the box? I have a decent hammer drill but I really struggle drilling through the diecast aluminium boxes with my bits.
Cheers Graeme. I bought some drill bits from B + Q which are 'suitable for metal' but I guess they are not strong enough? Should I look for some solid carbide ones?
I couldn't say? If your drill is powerful and fast enough you should drill aluminum with ease. It is a soft metal. I find re-chargable cordless drills are to slow. G
Graemey, WTFook soldering station is that anyway? It looks like a travel model in a sanitary White a medical tech might have had. Did those xistors come
Thou shalt use a Metcal or Hakko soldering station and solder in accordance with MIL-STD-2000. Seriously though ... these are two of the best soldering irons to use .... Great video as always! Pete :>)
Hi! Great channel! I have a question I was hoping you could answer if you have the time.
What kind of decal did you use for your MKI clone? I've done my own inkjet water decals for pedals but never white on a darker surface.
Hope you can shine a light on this :)

Did i get this right:You used an OC75 for Q1 and ac125´s for Q2-3??
Are´nt those OC75´s hard to track down?...(And expensive)

Yep, you are right both times. G

i think it's more expensive to built a fuzz than buy an fuzz. but it seems to be fun.

Nice Vid! Also, nice construction Technique. Is is much trouble in England getting parts & what not? Anyway your box came out well indeed!

how did you learn to read schematics? I'm trying to build a fuzz face and I don't understand the schematics :(

Hello, is it possible to use PNP-trannies and a power suply, or is it absolutly necessary to use NPN then?Thank you! Cool informative videos!!!

What Hfe Values did the schematics give for q1 q2 and q3. Can't find these readily on the net as most of them have been removed.
stopfrankentime 2 years ago
Q1 around 80/90. Q2 and Q3 in low hundreds 120/130. That's what I used from what I remember. G

All over the net. Try Free Stompboxes and Fuzz Central. Just google them. G

Greeting Graeme,
Thanks for the two excellent videos. I'm just getting into the whole DIY pedal scene and it was good to see some practical examples.
Keep up the good work.

The drill is an old mains Black and Decker. You need drill bits suitable for drilling metal. If yours are blunt, they will need to be replaced. G

Hello, sounds good! What hfe and leakage did you end up using? I've built one myself and try to tune it up. Got Q1 60 270ua Q2 93 150ua Q3 65 160ua.
gaddastorp 2 years ago
Q1 69, Q2 and Q3 about 90/100 all had very low leakage but I've heard that leakage isn't such a problem in this circuit. G
