Sadly Scotty will be such an a***hole later in the movie no matter what he said to Mike at the fireplace. Just sad that there are people like this in real life who let people they claim to be the best friends of down. Plus he now knows that for Mike he is much more than a best friend.

I'm crying right now...not just for the pain that his character in the movie but for river phoenix himself. He was pained in real life with all the pressures of life and fame and his honesty made it look so real on the big screen. By far one of the greatest actors of all time! I love you River Phoenix!

Not only did River write this scene, but Van Sant said that he originally WROTE the characters as both being straight and River thought this would add an extra tension that the movie needed... so ALL of this (besides the pretty filming) was River Phoenix!

This has to be one of those underground cult classic movies that most people have never heard of, but the ones who have seen it swear by its greatness. It's truly a classic, and this is probably the best scene in the movie and therefor, one of the greatest, most touching scenes in movie history. Some people would think it's sick, but those people have a very narrow view of love and humanity and can't appreicate the real art of movie making.
