  • Quick question - why did the Old Catholic Church choose the modifier "Old" in its name when it formed? This seems unusual considering that it's a much newer body than the Catholic Church.

  • @Szpondt In the Old Catholic view, they remain true to the original conciliar polity of the Church. It was the Roman church that were the innovators with papal infallibility, and then the Immaculate Conception and the Co-redemption. The Old Catholic Church has tried to cleave even closer to the ancient Councils, for instance by rejecting the filioque clause in the Nicene Creed.

  • Great mic.

  • @clearjr1 Sorry about that--I suspect it's my laptop's onboard mike. I'll try disabling it and using another mike for future videos.

  • So, which is the largest Old Catholic jurisdiction in the US; and to which Bishop (ie. Vilatte, Matthew, etc.) do they trace their Apostolic Succession? I ask because I find myself in a similar situation.

  • @usmc1088 I replied privately, but I'm with the North American Old Catholic Church. I believe they're on the Vilatte end of things, but there have been additional cross-consecrations. Laud is in there somewhere, too.

  • @eltoro92630 Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to check them out. Peace!
