In the books, in the years after the War of the Ring, Éomer met Princess Lothíriel, daughter of Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth. Imrahil fought during in the War of the Ring as well. Éomer and Lothíriel were wed and she bore him a son, Elfwine the Fair. So Éomer had his happy ending too :).
