Chronicles was the same, but it had AWFUL lag to boot as well. It literally took about 7 seconds to just open the menu, and sometimes 10 seconds to load an area. The DS port is really great, with no lag. And the translation is actually cooler with better lines for the most part. BTW, this video cut part of the scene out and the full scene is present in the game. Just a video edit from Square enix.
yeah, i've only ever played CT for the SNES. I've owned 3 cartridges of it too. One got stolen during a break in, another got stolen by movers switching houses and the 3rd I lent to my friend and he moved away. Now CT for the SNES is so expensive and i've owned it 3 times grrr.
I guess i'll get it for DS but with different dialogue the nostalgia factor is gone. no more 'if you're prepared for the void' *queue magus fight*
If you liked Magus' badass attitude, I can assure you he is even moreso now. His lines are less cheesy and more serious. It's just a better written script. I've come across only two words in the game I liked more in the original. Johnny is now "Bro" instead of "The man". And "mystics" are now fiends. Sad, but the rest of the dialog makes up for it.
hmm, i guess after a long life of playing chrono trigger, a new dialog might be a good refresher...
something to break away from the same old story i grew up on. i'll buy it for DS. STILL, that's not gonna prevent me from getting the snes game too. :)
I do not like anything to the new sound effect of Dark matter or the new appearance of the Dark Bomb, which is pink lavender, when the original color was invested, that of the SNES version was better
Yes, they've changed the script. And his new line is more violent, saying he's going to literally kill you (if death is what you seek) instead of just alluding to it by saying the word "void". IMO, they've made Magus even more badass! And that's impressive!
i dunno, seems more cliche to me. what Magus said before seemed more like what he would say, since his spell's are related to "voids".
also being stuck in a void seems quite a bit more intimidating than death, since you're not sure what death will be, compared to the void which is certainly eternal darkness.
i'm siding with tech parts. I just think Frog and Magus now sound too much like a cliche wizard and knight from the middle ages. Magus is all powerful.(and is from 12,000 BC) Only he can send you to a slow death of nothingness.
The dialog is different because it's a more accurate translation. What you now see is closer to what was supposed to be said.

Closer or not, what he said in the SNES version was far cooler than the SFC version IMO.

@scarecrow719 If you like Engrish maybe. Greater accuracy translation usually favored by most people.

so they "decensored" the quotes huh? I wonder of Flea Vest, Ozzie pants, and Tom's Soda Pop will be changed as well.
drzero7 3 years ago
I haven't gotten to the vest or pants part, but Flea and Ozzie are still named the same. Toma's soda is now "spirits".

Huh, in the SNES version , he said "Okay, give me your best shot.....IF YOUR PREPARED FOR THE VOID!!

Void and death are the same here in this game. The original version only used the word "void" so they wouldn't scare the kiddies.

Yep! I love his new lines. When he is turning Glenn into frog he used to say:
"Why not? There's always some time for fun!" (or something like that)
Now he says:
"Very well. No act of defiance goes unpunished."
They made him even MORE badass! I wasn't sure they could do that.
