he means are we dancer(s), as in, do we follow the steps, do what we're told to do, are we controlled. in such a society we are afraid to be ourselves and take chances. there's another part where it mentions an open door, he's scared because open doors are opportunities. the whole idea behind 'dancer' came from a quote that says 'america has raised a generation of dancers', and that quote meant just what i said before. :P
