She said/did many things to get reactions from people, but probably didn't take most of it seriously. If she did, I don't think she would have got on with Jews like Lou Reed and Danny Fields so well (though Fields did describe her as 'Nazi-esque' in her belief of superiority over Jewish people).

I know Lou Reed is Jewish but she was involved in a glassing fight at a party with a black woman because she was black.

You're right, I've actually read about two separate incidents where she glassed black women (one being a Black Panther associate, another a singer for Jimi Hendrix), but I've also read of Nico getting violent with a number of non black/Jewish people unprovoked. It's hard to say how much was racism and how much was pure uninhibited temperament.

Yeah, she had a lot of mental instabilities too. Being raped and her addiction to heroin. She was a Nazi sympathiser though. Than again she would switch back and forth on that particular view because of how she felt about Germany as a whole.

According to Ari, his son, Nico's father was a personnal friend of the mahatma gandhi, a spy, and he died shooted by the gestapo for helping jewish people to escape during the war (from Nico Icon documentary).Nico was four years old when he died, he always represent a hero for her, So I don't think she was a nazi sympatiser, and a racist person in her soul ... she was terribly solitary, that's the point .... wathever you was white, black, jewish, a german pig etc ...

Nico's close friend, Danny Fields, discussed it in an article (which you can find on the first result by Googling "Nico racist"), and said they had to leave the country the next day. The incident with the Black Panther girl came straight from Nico herself: "She was talking so much nonsense that I just hit her in the eye with a bottle. She had seventeen stitches in her eye. I couldn't go back for seven years because of her friends and the police". It's also elaborated on in Richard Witts' book.

John Cale composed all of the instuments on these 2 tracks and, apart from the trumpet also plays them. He´s the musical backbone of Desertshore and The Marble Index, Such a musical genious!
