Ive got a 92 yj 4 banger and a 2012 JKU. dont wanna mess with the jku yet as its brand new but wanting to toy up the yj. Would the 4cyl be worth putting the suspension money into?
@ed0985587 yeah theres plenty of people who wheel 4cyl jeeps. but it depend on what you do. trail runs, few obstacles here and there yeah 4cyl will do fine. but you want to get serious its alot more expensive to get it right. if you go 33s or higher you will have regear the axles to get power back. 4.88 gears are most desirable for 4bangers. 6cyl jeeps are alittle more powerful that even with stock 3.07 gears people can tolarate it until they get the $ for regears. but yeah you be fine for now
@ed0985587 yeah 4cyl yjs came with 4.10 gears stock. their ideal for the 6cyl yj to up the gearing for big tires but for the 4cyl yjs not good enough for big tires. thats where 4.88s come in
i have the 4 inch lift on my yj from rough country. ya the road ride is pretty bad i was not expeting alot i was just gonna get the lift then revolver shackles and longer shocks but i locked up my axles and i was impressed it had alot more flex than any of these in this video check out my videos it may help someone make up there mind from paying 450 for rc to 1000 for others
@trac0808 the jeeps in vid still had the tracbar/swaybar connected if they werent on yes the springs will perform great. i checked your vids out and they were great. i too have the 4" lift from RC and their 1" boom shackles. been on their for 7months with no sag at all esp. carrying cargo, full tank of gas everywk and hardtop 4.0L. quite impressed. i flexed mine this morning and the rear springs stuff my 33s to a point it touched the tub. the front was limited cause my brakelines and shocks.
the black yj is running 33x12.50dick cepek crushers. the red yj is running 35x12.50's. with a good fender trimming andsuch, the four inch could fit 35's. but they may rub at full stuff, depending on how much you trim. the 33's are plenty though. and yeah, i am getting the four inch lift, and in no way can afford tires too. so, i will be running on stock 27's with the lift. i dont mind, i already do better than my friends lifted trucks. jeeps rule all!!!
i just bought a 4" pro comp lift i gotta get it installed on my 95 yj. i cant afford tires i have 30" on them now is that going to be shity as hell, or should i wait to put the lift on?
@DEean6969 wait until you get some tires then put lift and tires on at sametime. i cant say nothing though when i put my 4" rc lift on but i ordered my 33s 2wks before the project so i thought the tires wouldve been in around the sametime i put the lift on well turned out they took longer to show up. 4" lift and 27" tires look goofy as hell i just parked my yj in the garage and suffered jeep withdrawals from not driving it and waited 4 more days after lift installation for them to come in haha.
@DEean6969 i think it will be borderline, but i like a little space between the top of tires and fenders. to some it will look bad, but i think i would wait to be safe.
@zuman95 VERY VERY VERY TRUUUUUU YEP YEP!! THIS SHIT SUX BAD...THERES WAY BETTER STUFF, RUFF COUNTRY BRAND IS FOR BIG ASSS HILL BILLY CHEV'S AND FORD'S LOL
@zuman95 Who wants to spend 1500-3500 for a lift when they can get one from rough country that will accomplish the same desired outcome for a 1/3rd of that price? Do the math man...
@saganhill Very true they are cheaper than other brands BUT if you want your 4" lift to be a 2" in 8-12 months from sagging then buy rough country....if not go with somthing with better quality leaf springs. I dont know how theyre lifts are for tj and later but I know that YJ lifts from rough country are shit. I ended up putting rubicon express 4" on my Yj for $858 (cheap) and are 10x better than rough country
Rough Country is POS my track arm bracket just snapped going down the highway on my JK almost caused a head on colison. I called DAVID with RC and he was not worried at all about there unsafe product. If anybody out there has there lift for JK you need to UPGRADE to the TERAFLEX frame brace & drag link flip kit. Just trying to keep people safe because RC does not care. I can only speak for the JK and I have blown out 2 of there 2.2 shocks just trail riding
are any of theses YJs the 2.5 4 banger or the 4.0. i have the 2.5 weak A** motor and i am trying to get a feel for how much weaker they get with 33s or 35.
if you go larger tires replace the gears and you should not lose power. I got a 6l in mine and when I put the lift and 33 tires I lost a lot of power. I took the stock 3.07 gears out and put in some 4.56 and got that power back. But shit a 4 banger sale it and get 1 with a straight 6. I plan on swapping out my 6 and getting a chevy v8 in it then I will have some damn good power
my fiance just bought a YJ with the 4.0/AX15 setup running 33's with the stock 3.07's. It takes a little while to accelerate in 3rd-5th, but it 1st and 2nd are ok, and it will get rubber going into 3rd if you're really on it.

Not worried about the Wrangler Community. =) Got plenty of friends that have them. Some Stock and a few VERY modified. Hell I have owned a couple myself! Hahahaha Now also own a 01 Cherocar. Buutttttt. . . . Still not a fan of the YJ. :/
@1bigZuki Looks like in your vids the YJ springs are way too stiff for the Sami. I would take my YJ any day over one too.
And off the shelf can work real well if set up properly, these guy's setup look extremely stiff as well, not much flex. Over torqued shackles problably main issue.
Nice jeeps, it looks as though the flex is not that great. My stock TJ appears to have more articulation, although it doesn't have large tires, or a lift.
I just got an 88 wrangler.. 4" body 4" suspension lifts. Rock crawler sways, 32" mudders.... I can't stop looking out the window at it when I am not driving :) can't wait for the spring thaws .. woo hoo

springs wayy to stiff. Jeeps are just too light for those hi-lift sua springs. Best way to achieve better suspension movement with a sua setup is to use 1-3" lift springs only and do all the fender trimmings to fit tire. Otherwise the Best setup with leaf springs is a soa with said minimal arched springs i.e R.E. 1.5's
X2 on comments about sway bars, I just took mine completely off cause 100 dollars for the discos is a little rediculous, I'm not trying to tow or race.
i have no track bars no sway bars on 235/75r15 stock everthing and it did all right :( then i add the 4 inch it made a big differents it has flex as much as you can get out of a spring under axle if you want flex out of a YJ do a spring over axles its the best for flex no bs .rubicon exspress has the correct springs for a soa
no acutally 33's is the highest you could go on stock..35's would work but you need a 5inch suspension lift for clearence if you wana go that high you need a new cv rear drive shaft and a slip yoke elmainator..i have 35inch tsl super swampers with a 5 inch suspension lift and a 2 inch body lift on my yj and it looks damn sexy
its all in how they are set up where i am there are like 20 jeeps and truck with those lifts and they are really nice lots of flex If you have it set right for the truck/jeep your running
on monday 3-10--43 was a little girl from 6 years old killed by a bloke. she has no eyes anymore and her face is all blood. her brown hear is no more brown but grey. if you don't send this to 5 videos, she will on 3:00 appears on your moms bed and kill her. you can save your mom to send this to 5 videos.
Well for one you would have much more tire clearance, but if you already run 35s and wheel it than that call is up to you. Although at 6"s you will need to add a slip yoke eliminator and a longer rear drive shaft.
I have the same lift kit as the black jeep. It was fairly easy to install, it was just hard to remove the old leaf springs as the bushings had fused to them. Had to cut them off. It doesnt look quite as big as in the video but still awsome. I have 28's on it right now but looking for some 33's because it looks too small One problem im having is that the reloacated sway bar is actually hitting one of my rear shocks!? has anyone else had this problem? I know i put it on right anyone else had this?
I have a 1995 jeep wrangler YJ and the leaf springs are completely flat. no curve whatsoever. Do I need a lift kit or just new leaf springs? because this jeep looks kick ass, but I've got 30" tires and I don't want them to look small if I lift it... Someone please help me out here.
Well if the springs are flat you can do one of two things. You can put new leafs on there or you could install an add-a-leaf and re-arch the leafs. As far as the new leafs the only way to replace them is a lift kit no one really makes a factory replacement leaf.
thank you so much for the help. I went to Kragen Auto Parts and they said they could order replacement leaf springs for me, though. So, in your opinion, would it be alright for me to simply replace the leaf springs? or will I keep having the same problem later on?
Well just like everything else they will eventually flatten out again, but for optimal performance I would go with a lift kit plus it's cheaper than ordering oem springs.
i got a 93 YJ sahara edition, freaken awesome dude, and i was thinking bout doing the same lift. maybe later convert it to coilovers when i get the money to do it.
got the same lift on my yj. nice lift but i think they should recomend 32's as max tire size. thats what im runnin and you can stuff them so easy. even in the vid, they look like 33's and you can see they hit the fenders super easy

i have an 89 yj with 3" susp lift and 33s and i've got plenty of clearance.

absolutely gorgeous jeeps. I want a YJ soooo bad. cool video

I put the 4" on my 88 YJ and love it. I also upgraded the front and rear shackles. With this addition 33s fit with no problem and looks awesome.

I noticed that you took off the license plate bracket over the gas cap. Where did you stick the license plates?

Is there a noticable difference between the 4" kit and 6" kit. I want to buy the 6" but it is alot more money, and i already run 35" tires.
sitdwnandhngon 3 years ago
Well for one you would have much more tire clearance, but if you already run 35s and wheel it than that call is up to you. Although at 6"s you will need to add a slip yoke eliminator and a longer rear drive shaft.

What size tires are each of those rigs running?
sitdwnandhngon 3 years ago
I have the same lift kit as the black jeep. It was fairly easy to install, it was just hard to remove the old leaf springs as the bushings had fused to them. Had to cut them off. It doesnt look quite as big as in the video but still awsome. I have 28's on it right now but looking for some 33's because it looks too small One problem im having is that the reloacated sway bar is actually hitting one of my rear shocks!? has anyone else had this problem? I know i put it on right anyone else had this?

I have a question...
FightingGoat23 3 years ago
Well if the springs are flat you can do one of two things. You can put new leafs on there or you could install an add-a-leaf and re-arch the leafs. As far as the new leafs the only way to replace them is a lift kit no one really makes a factory replacement leaf.
bonzo828 3 years ago
thank you so much for the help. I went to Kragen Auto Parts and they said they could order replacement leaf springs for me, though. So, in your opinion, would it be alright for me to simply replace the leaf springs? or will I keep having the same problem later on?
FightingGoat23 3 years ago
Well just like everything else they will eventually flatten out again, but for optimal performance I would go with a lift kit plus it's cheaper than ordering oem springs.
bonzo828 3 years ago
oh well. thank you for the help figuring this out.

i bought a 4 inch lift for my 87yj. i cant wait to get it in the mail. looks like a nice size lift from this vid.

YJ Jeeps look the best
suicidalchris 3 years ago 3
got the same lift on my yj. nice lift but i think they should recomend 32's as max tire size. thats what im runnin and you can stuff them so easy. even in the vid, they look like 33's and you can see they hit the fenders super easy
obs2008 3 years ago
I agree 100% on the tire size, but more often then not 33's are easier to come by than are 32s.
bonzo828 3 years ago
The perfect combo is to run the 4" lift with 33's and then run TJ fender flares to improve clearance ...
Those 4" RC springs seem to flex really well?
