For those of you who doubt this is Hitler, he developed this accent (Low-Bavarian) when he lived in Southern Germany. Of course, as some of you have said, he also has the Austrian accent. The reason why his voice is so much lower is that, when we hear him speak, it is in public. If you were speaking in front of millions of people, you'd be nervous. Being nervous makes your voice higher. I think this recording is amazing! I don't know how you found it, but it's really cool!

Hitler always wanted to conquer vast areas in the east. Not only because of communists being his "natural" enemies, but to gain the east's resources (Germany is - also today - poor of those) and to gain space for the german "race" to spread. He just confronted the west because they would not accept this and France was traditionally involved at wars with Germany. On the other hand Hitler of courrse also feared the masses of the eastern people, though he regarded them as inferior.

Hitler considered Slavs subhumans as well and wanted to steal their land and reduce their numbers and leave survivors to be slaves. I'm not a Nazi-sympathizer or defending Hitler denying the Holocaust and all that jazz, but I still believe he was a figurehead/fall-guy while nasties like Eichmann and Himmler pulled strings. Hitler was a lunatic and he was cruel, but sometimes I have to respect him. Not because he killed millions of Jews, no, not because of that. I hate him for that. But his country was damged, and forced to repay war debts from WW1 that Germany wasn't all responsible for. The country was broken, their economy ravaged. Hitler was a pretty bad military leader. D-day was a disaster for Germany because Hitler was asleep when it started and his command staff was too afraid to wake him. Then when he was told about it he "knew" it was fake. Rommel, one of the Generals in France at the time, was unable to use the Panzer Division stationed there because it only took orders directly from Hitler. I could go on and on. He was a good politician, but he was not anywhere close to a good military leader.

Interesting conversation. Hitler explains the reason behind the attack against Soviet Union. It has nothing to do with megalomaniac desire of conquering the world but to defend the Romenian petroleum which Germany was dependent of. Hitler was born a rural Austrian, then moved to Vienna, then to Munich as a young man. Bavaria and Austria both have quite a range of dialects each that - to a Northerner - can be quite similar to one another. He avoided speaking a very broad dialect - it was Hochdeutsch but you could tell he came from the South.

He did not vary this by much - and he really never used the Berliner dialect!

It's usually portrayed that way by most observers and even some historians. It makes it difficult to see him as a human being -- when you try to put him into his own category, you tend to forget that the capacity for evil is inherently human. He was NOT a lunatic, he was a mass murderer.  That recognition makes him even more frightening.

oh I don't think this is exactly the only recording of his normal voice, though it may be the longest. I saw a documentary on him that contained a newsreel sound clip of him talking in a normal voice to a visiting group of British firemen in what must have been in the earlier stages of his regime.
