  • Hi Bhavna...how long can you store the batter? We are just 2 people in the family and will not use all of this at once. Thanks for your great recipes and tips.

  • @Monica8753

    Hi

You can store up to 2 weeks in fridge after fermented and up 3months in freezer..

  • Hai bhavana,

Can u plz say me if we can use a food processor for making this batter not the blender/mixi.... Plzzzz

  • @vimsukkrajith

    HI

Food processor doesn't do job well with this kind of betters but if you don't have any choice try in small amount and see if that works for you. Better might not get as smooth as blender...

  • Hi Bhavna just to tell you i am making good Dosa now thanks for your advice also i will try your recipe because I use Gits ready mix.Thank you.You are amazing love your videos..keep it up.

  • @TheDreamer131

    HI

Very glad to hear...I have already shared many video of Dosas, if you get time, watch them and you will sure get even more professional at making dosas everytime...enoy!

  • Adding salt slows down the fermentation process. Add it after fermentation is complete!

  • @flickture

    Hi

Thanx for sharing....I agree and I do not add salt anymore untill I am ready to make dosa or idli or most fermented dishes...

  • Great one....

  • @MrBathula

    Hi

    Thanx and enjoy!

  • do we require to sprinkle water every time on Tava before spreading Dosa batter? to make dosa perfect?

  • @utdhhara

    Hi

Yes, tava needs to cool down everytime you spread dosa batter. For more tips, visit website...

  • Good Taste:))))) I eat thosa many times:)))

  • @zion638

    Enjoy!

  • @SuperVeggieDelight well nice dosas there x) Keep up the good work :D

  • @ProGamerZ3

    Hi

    Thanx and enjoy!

  • hi Bhavana,

which poha u used thin or thick?

    thanks

  • @jhootbolay

    Hi

    Thick

  • what is pooha ?

  • @zibabahadori

    Hi

As I said in video, Poha is beaten rice...if you go to indian grocers, you will get more ideas...enjoy!

  • Hi Bhavna. I think you are in the US. What blender did you use?

  • @saritajakhere

    Hi

I use juicer from Oyster brand...enjoy!

  • Hi Bhavna,

if the climate is very cold then how to ferment the batter for dosa>?any ideas>?

  • @lataasher1

    Hi

Wrap your post with warm towel or keep the pot in the oven with only oven light on. Hope this helps..enjoy!

  • Is 'poha' the same thing as 'aval' in Tamil? Does anybody know?

  • Thank you so much for posting the recipe- quick question, can I skip the overnight soaking process by grinding the rice and dahl as you do in your idli video? Thankyou :)

  • @ANW2012

    hi

    Yes, you can...

  • hi bhavna for dosa can i use any kind of rice?

  • @MissRaniKaur

    Hi

yes, except never use basmati rice..enjoy!

  • hi, i m a constant fail when it comes to dosa, but your tip of not so hot tava is my problem i think, thanks for a good video.

  • @98Perv

    Hi

Yes, mainatining temperature of tava is very important. If your tava is hot you won't be able to spread batter. I usually pour cold running tap water on my tava each and everytime before pouring batter....enjoy!

  • sooooooooper bavana very useful for bachelors like me

  • @madhisekar

    Hi

    Thanx and enjoy!

  • How can we make Poha???

  • @loik345

    Hi

I do not try to make poha at home since they are easily available at all indian grocers...enjoy!

  • Dear Bhavna, I tried so many times to spread the dosa batter on the pan but have failed miserably. Every time I try to spread the batter into a circle, the batter clumps and sticks to my bowl instead of spreading and sticking onto the pan. I tried on low, medium and high heat. What am I doing wrong?? I will really appreciate your response. Thx!

  • @anonymousviewer86 how can i achieve the right thickness for the dosa?? I tried a variety of batter consistency. I just can't figure out why my batter is clumping instead of spreading nicely. Plz help me Bhavna!!! Thank u!!!

  • @anonymousviewer86

    Hi

Watch my all videos of dosa properly...lot of tips but better gets to it's right consistancy when it is fermented. Make sure to add just enough water so that you can easly pureed your lentil and then do not add any extra water to adjust consistancy. When you pour your batter on pan, make sure your pan is not hot...it should be luke warm only. Just spread cold water if it gets hot...hope this helps!

  • @SuperVeggieDelight thank u so much!! I don't have this problem any more... it was the heat of the pan... it really can't get hot... the temperature control matters alot... but the problem I'm having now is that my dosa does not come off the pan... it sticks to the pan and I have to scrape it off the pan and basically I end up with crispy crumbs :(

  • @anonymousviewer86

    HI

At lease got success with one matter. Usually if your pan is in good condition, dosa starts peeling off on it's own when it's done. YOu will see edges lifting up slowly and you come to know that you dosa is done. Try to drizzle few drop of oil on the edges once it is cooked little bit and see if that helps. Enjoy!

  • @SuperVeggieDelight I even tried to coat the pan with oil b4 I put the batter but end up with the same result... what can I do?? any suggestions?? I will really appreciate your help... thx!

  • @anonymousviewer86

    Hi

never use oil before pouring batter. You can however smere oil once you pour and spread butter. Please as I said watch videos carefully and you will get sucess. If not try this, first heat up tava, then before pouring batter, place your tava carefully under cold tape running water and immediately pour batter, make sure though not even single drop of wateer on tava...if you tava is hot water will dry out right a way and then ready to pour your batter and quickly spread.

  • @SuperVeggieDelight thank u for ur reply... I really appreciate it!! :) I will try and practice more...

  • @anonymousviewer86

    Hi

    There you go...practice makes perfect...enjoy!

    Enjoy!

  • Hi Bhavana, your dosa looks amazing! Can you please tell me which brand of long grain rice you are using? Thanks!

  • @tubeb151

    HI

I am not very particular about brand. Whatever i get from walmart, I use them. Result is great every time. If you batter is well fermented, can't go wrong and even I heard from few users that they made Dosa in just 3 hours and still the result is great. So just go ahead and use any long grain rice but never use basmati rice. Enjoy!

  • Hi Bhavna, your dosas look gr8!! but I was wondering if u cud plz give measurements... I will appreciate your response... Thx :)

  • @anonymousviewer86

    Hi

    3 cups rice

    1 cup urad dal

    1 tbsp fenugreek(methi) seeds

    This is the standard measurement.

Now these days, to above ingredients, I also add 1/2 cup of thick poha and 1/2 cup of chana dal and they come out just like restaurant. Give it a try. Enjoy!

  • @SuperVeggieDelight

thank u so much for ur reply!!! but i was wondering abt how many cups of water i shud add to get the right consistency... i will appreciate your response!! :)

  • @anonymousviewer86

    Hi

I only add water needed to blend the mixture very well. I do not add any extra water later on. The reason is that when batter is fermented, it gets light and fluffy, so no extra water needed. If your batter is fermented well, do not add water to make it thin or no need to adjust consistancy. So you can take as much water as you need to blend. still question, feel free to ask. Enjoy!

  • @SuperVeggieDelight thank u!!! very helpful!

  • @anonymousviewer86

    Hi

You most welcome anytime and enjoy!

  • Hi Bhavna .. I love your vids. how do you roll the dosa with out breaking it? I make rava dosa with the batter from the store.. but i love freshly made dosa b cuz the taste is so much better.. but I can't get it into that perfect shape. is the batter thick or thin for dosa?

  • @yogita72599

    Hi Yogita!

The batter consistancy should be easy pouring. But the main thing is that your batter should be fermented good in order to make great Dosas. I have already posted two videos of dosa and one for rawa dosas. Watch them properly and you will get more tips and ideas. If you still have questions, feel free to ask. enjoy!

  • Thank you so much for this recipe...I love dosa and have tried to make it crispy like the restaurant's dosa so many times and it works sometimes, not crispy but soft othertimes. But the taste is not really like the restaurant's dosa...So I m going to try ur recipe...It looks like I will get success this time...But hey I have a question, how long does it take u to make 1 dosa? because I use high flame and it takes me about 5 mins to make just 1 dosa and my family hate waiting while eating...haha!

  • @lali143

    Hi

It does take at least 3mins evne if they are thin. What I usually do I use two tavas. And I always make big one. And if i have invited few people, then I use third one which is my electric griddle where you can make almost restaurant style big size dosa. I don't want you to spend much money just for making Dosa but as I said atleast try to use two tavas to reduce waiting time. Good luck and enjoy!

  • @SuperVeggieDelight

Thanks dear, I've got the electric griddle so I guess from ur recipe, the size of ingredients should help me...

    God Bless!

  • You made it look so easy ...I always thought making Dosa for me is just impossible ..but I think after watching your video ..am going to give this a try ...Thanks for the video Bhavna and for your secret tip as well : )

  • hi bhavna

loved the recipe..jst one question...will the dosa batter ferment if it is very cold???????? i wnt to make this dosa but it is very cold here what to do?????

  • @nishulalwani put it in oven i guess

  • @exoticbeb

    Hi

    Yes, right.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • @nishulalwani

    Hi

One thing you can do is turn the light only of oven and keep batter in the oven for about 6 hours. Dosa batter doesn't require more fermentation. It actually comes out great with little fermentation only so that's why I said that if you not making dosa after 6 hours then referigerate it and take out whenever ready to make.

  • The recipe can I find on ur website??? its very loud. but I l♥ve it.

  • @oKeegan

Yes, most recipes can be found on website. Dosa recipe is available. For some recipes, it takes time for me to upload on website if I don't get time but usually I try my best to upload on website as well.

  • bhavna yr dosas are so yummy and crisp.I am a tamilian and I can say yr dosas are perfect.Where did u get this lovely non stick tawa.I feel like buying it right away, haha.

  • @belact

    Hi

Will sure do. I simply love all kinds of dosas. But before I post, you can watch video of Rava dosa with spaghetti that I showed earlier. Omit spaghetti and make thin dosa and you will love it. Enjoy!
