It's not just because most Australians have British like me, it's because you turned a fairly desolate island into one of the most modern and magnificent nations on earth and yet you're not arrogant. The majority of people here in England really love you Aussies, regardless of what anyone says. Plus, you're the best in the world at cricket, my favourite sport!

It all depends on what criteria you use to define the greatest player. Jacques Kallis is the best cricketer of all time with his incredible bowling and batting records. However, in terms of stroke play in the modern era and simply dominating attacks, you can't go any further than Ricky Ponting. Ponting's ability against the short ball throughout his career has meant teams can only really bowl full at him and then it's an easy game. Tendulkar's got the best record - no doubt, best player? Maybe..

@rishtubeu sachin has had indian home pitches (flat tracks) in the first innings of most games. Also he hasn't had the weight of captaincy for 9 years. Also since ponting has had to come in at number 3 - which means he basically has to pad up as soon as he comes of the field its fair to say he has been more mentally fatigued throughout his career. And as well all know no 3 is rather difficult place to bat coming in agianst the new ball....life is much easier when u come in at 4 behind d wall!
Even as a Pom, I have to say that the so-called shortcomings of Ponting's captaincy skills have been way overblown. Did people really think that it was possible to lose Hayden, Langer, Gilchrist, Warne, McGrath, Martyn and Lee all within a couple of years of each other and maintain the standards set by Steve Waugh? Regardless, as a batsman Ponting only has one rival to being Australia's greatest since Bradman, in the shape of Gregg Chappell. He was a phenomenon between 2002 and 2007.
I'm an Indian ... hate Ponting as a person .. but trust me .. when I see this guy pull a good-length ball right off the meat of the bat ... and the ball goes past the fence without the blink of an eye .. I really feel happy ... :) .. I admire the confidence in this guy's strokes ...

its a shame to see punter have a rough time of late, but i just cant believe how well tendulkar and kallis are still batting. kallis has now passed punter as the second most centuries scored behind surprise surprise tendulkar

no comparison of ponting and sir don with sachin,,both were far ahead of sachin..cant compare dons era with modern totaly bowling pitches in that time and almost no boy securties,,very difficult to bat on in such conditions and still make such records.and sachin plays most of his carrer on placid pitches,,look at his record against S.A and oz on non placid pitches.,,,poor.

@KINGMJ1990 Very recently Cricinfo compiled an All Time World XI team (Test cricket). 2 teams were compiled, the 1st was the primary team and the 2nd was just a back up team. Tendulkar was selected in the 1st team. As for Ponting, he couldn't even make it to the 2nd team.
I have a request to all Aussie cricket lovers. I see a lot of Ponting, Gilly and Hayden videos on YouTube, but there is no video of another magnificient batsman - Damien Martyn. I'd love to see some of his Test (or ODI) innings, if some of you can upload that.
Especially his last innings century to win the Test in SA (Jo'burg, 2006) or one of his centuries in the spinning tracks of India (Nagpur or Chennai, 2004) or SL (Galle or Kandy, 2004). Thanks in advance!

As an Englishman, I don't like seeing Ricky play well when he's playing us, but there's no doubt whatsoever, along with Tendulkar and Lara he's the best i've seen. Pure class, so graceful yet brutal at the same time. No one plays that pull shot better than him. He'll go down in history as one of the best ever i'm sure.

no comparison of ponting and sir don with sachin,,both were far ahead of sachin..cant compare dons era with modern totaly bowling pitches in that time and almost no boy securties,,very difficult to bat on in such conditions and still make such records.and sachin plays most of his carrer on placid pitches,,look at his record against S.A and oz on non placid pitches.,,,poor.
and ponting plays most of his carrier on bowling supportive pitches and plays most of his matches under pressure of captain

ponting has played 100 matches less in odis than sachin and scored 4k runs less.He will surely hit those 4k in 100 matches.he has scored at the same rate as sachin.
sachin in 171 tests hits 14k runs and ponting in 145 tests hits 12 k runs
so whats so much of a diff between em i dont understand,moreover ponting won 3 world cups,captains the team and is a regular member of the aussie team which kicks out players if they dont perform.Ponting debut 95,sachin debut 89...

@KINGMJ1990 yeah if you look that stat both of them score ther 12k on same number of test match.debut is not matter.sachin rest and injury lot of time in his carrier but ponting did not have that.now both of them have come to retire if you look their recent batting sachin is playing like bradman in 2010 but ponting not like that.but also there is no pressure for sachin because he did not have tournament name ashes but ponting entire carrer is depon on that.

@KINGMJ1990 Very recently Cricinfo compiled an All Time World XI team (Test cricket). 2 teams were compiled, the 1st was the primary team and the 2nd was just a back up team. Tendulkar was selected in the 1st team. As for Ponting, he couldn't even make it to the 2nd team.

I have a request to all Aussie cricket lovers. I see a lot of Ponting, Gilly and Hayden videos on YouTube, but there is no video of another magnificient batsman - Damien Martyn. I'd love to see some of his Test (or ODI) innings, if some of you can upload that.
Especially his last innings century to win the Test in SA (Jo'burg, 2006) or one of his centuries in the spinning tracks of India (Nagpur or Chennai, 2004) or SL (Galle or Kandy, 2004). Thanks in advance!

As an Englishman, I don't like seeing Ricky play well when he's playing us, but there's no doubt whatsoever, along with Tendulkar and Lara he's the best i've seen. Pure class, so graceful yet brutal at the same time. No one plays that pull shot better than him. He'll go down in history as one of the best ever i'm sure.
