its your ecu valve engine control valve it goes out after awhile in most hondas its about a 200 dollar part we have been trying to figure out the same problem with my buddys car if you disconect the plug to it it will idle at about 3 grand till it gets warm then at about 1300-1500
Idk if youve got it fixed yet but its the fast idle valve. Its under the throttle body. Look up how to fix honda idle on here and you will see how its done. You just take off the cap and turn this little diaprham thingy clockwise and it fixes that. Hope this helps
i have a 94 honda accord and i got the same problem too, my mechanic told me is thge idle control valve the price to fix it $350. wtf ok thats why i love youtube cuz u find anything here . buy carbur cleaning and cleaning very well and wait like a 1hour put it back and good to go and i saved $350. :)
If Anyone has any ideas....my car is doing the same thing now, I am going to check my coolant first, but now its idling steady at 2k flat for some reason, can someone reply or email me with some ideas here plz...thank you ( (1997 Accord)
wow... i can't believe somebody said it was the head gasket and the TPS.... It's very common on Accords. It''s the Thermo valve located on the bottom of the Throttle assembly. You have to remove it from throttle. open it up and srcew the valve back down
its air sensor just check right under your windshield on the left its there and theres a place that you can tighten it up with a SCREWDRIVER! dont tight it too much tho just half turn or ur gonna blow engine up
mine started doing this last winter turned out it was no antifreeze/coolant in the thing put some in and that fixed it sounds odd i know but that fixed mine
@andy24491 that atually makes a lot of sense - the coolant line that feeds the intake air control do not ge fede of the coolant is low - that in turns prompts the valve to open up and speed youtr engine - not getting hot water to it means that it thinks your engine is stone cold and compensates for that by raising idle speed.- thanks, after reading everything here i found the only one that applies to my honda
mine does this for afew minutes but when i rev to 4g and hold for a few seconds and let go it usually stops.. (Air Idle Control possibly?) do these OBD1 have that?
it could be a number of things being that its a honda but nothing major oh and btw its idleing a little high mine did this too so start with the small stuff first like adjusting the idleing :)
Probably sticking on fast idle. Its a two hose piece that bolts to the plenum. Its just sticking. Its designed to let more air into the engine when its cold and less when its hot. The IAC is electronically controlled and likely will not cause this. You could try adjusting your idle down a bit but id bet its fast idle thermo valve.
flush out your radator real good cus would could be happening is your idle control is running off your water and if your radiator is dirty then the idle control gets all fuked up and the end result is usually that...
what other things does it do cus my h22 does the same and when i drive i have to asselerate all the time i cant cruse in a gear cus it would bog out and then when i asselerate softly it wont read has to be hard and then the car jumps when i do, its annoying
i have a 95 honda accord its normal for them to idle that high does it only do it when u crank it when its cold. then go back down when it warms up mine does the same thing it will idle high when its cold. once it warms up it should idle back down where its supose to
hey man its your fast idle thermo valve. (FITV). Pop your hood. Looking at the manifold it will be on the right side. with two screws. remove all the components connected to it. then take off the two top screws. youll see a white donuts type looking thing. using a regular flat head or equivalent and tighten it all the way then loosen it about 1/4 way. put it back together and that should stop it....make sure you coolant is filled and properly bled with the bleeding whole.
I just hope my intake manifold gasket is not leaking it will be a bytch to replace that damn thing. So maybe Ill go to my friends shop and ask them to do a smoke test to find out where the damn air leak is. At the same time I want to put my AEM intake but not sure if thats a good idea yet
Mine was doin this after I put my intake manifold on it and throttle body as well. It's a vacuum leak. Check hoses, make sure they're all plugged up, and gaskets as well. :D Good luck. No doubt though that it's a vacuum leak.
My 1993 Honda Accord EX f22 does this too, but only on cold starts during the winter. When it is warm outside, this doesn't happen. When this does occur, I noticed that if you rev it to about 4500 a few times, it goes away and idles normally. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this though. Current mileage: 246659 and counting.
I adjusted my fast idle valve and that wasn't the prob. Iac was the prob. Iac was fine, idle screw needed to be married to it again after all those miles. Remember that.
fast idel vavle. top right of the intake mani. two phillips screws to take the cover off and turn the plastic screw inside clockwise till its tight. 30 sec fix
i have a 1990 accord and it does the same exact as the video. if i unplug a clip with 3 wires on the oposite side of throttle cable on the throttle body it idles perfect but i have check engine light was is this called (the thing the wires plug into)

check the vacuums...you could disconnect the cable that connects to the idle control so it doesn't rev up so high...
carlosarturo77 1 year ago
Air in the cooling system can cause that. also vacuum leak might too. That idling is notorious for 90's hondas.
