  • Nice practice and I'm sure Greg has a big heart, haven't worked with him so far. In general I feel sometimes within Ashtanga there is an over obsession with Asana and ultimatley we have to transcend it and not get attached to it. I'm always suprised how many people practice Ashtanga but don't practice pranayama or meditate.

  • I can only admire the grace, and control that this MAN has over his body, and the discipline it probably took to get him there. Although i do not practice yoga as an aspiration to be like him, or be that graceful. I practice because it makes me feel good and peaceful, and if i continue my practice, who know's...mabey i will become that graceful, but that's not why i practice.I don't see why this practice has to seperate people, it's not a religion.

  • Great Joy!

  • i spent years practising to do this and now i wish i hadnt bothered .. i mean it didnt actually achieve anything for me. I honestly think it would have been better to have been lazy and happy rather than being so self-controlled .

  • isn't there happiness to be found in self control?

  • sorry i sounded so negative :) there was joy in self control .. but actually much more joy in being part of a group and really unselfconsciously close to your friends .. just spontaneous. People like you much better if you are natural and not so controlled. Never yet met a happy and well loved yoga teacher.. LOts of very stressed and perfectionist ones though!!

  • i can still do this type of controlled handstand etc .. just kept it up .. but i find it separates me from people and people think its either circus or i'm trying to be better than them ... and once you get good at it you actually dont feel good doing it .. its just ordinary .. thats my experience anyway :))

  • It did sound a little negative but I understand what you're trying to say. As yogis we are pulled in two directions, letting go of the ego and not being attached to being able to do neato things like the above, but we also want to excel in our practice which requires a lot of discipline, it does separate us a bit. the teacher I learned with seemed happy/loved, but I have only worked with a few teachers. There is a difference between a yoga teacher and a yogi/yogini. thanks for reply. Namaste.

  • neither of you are "yogis"

  • Beautiful & Inspiring
