What I'm actually looking for is a way to create something that is written on in the model, such as a fancy place-card at a table setting or a sign on the wall. Using the 3-D thing is overkill.

After some searching i found out i can resize the 3d text object with "s"command... thanks for explaning...

Thanks for the tutorial. But how do you create multiple arrows, that originate from the same text, but goes in different directions? i.e. add a new leader line to the existing leader object???

Use the Scale tool.

select the object that you want to resize, then click the scale tool (on the top toolbar) then click and drag one of the green boxes, hope it helps
