proven that a weimaraner in the states is mostly a family dog - which is absolutely ok if you work enough with it. here in germany most of the breeders will not give a weimaraner to a non-hunter. cutting tsils off is illegal here and no hunter says his dogs get hurt more....

open your hearts and your minds... cuting any parts off is NOT neccessary, its cruel, nothing else!

I am in touch with people in Australia, where, I'm told, it's illegal to modify ears, tails, etc., for appearances only. I'm an American myself, but that doesn't mean I'm totally enchanted with every policy the AKC has.

@BrazosRiverOne Any form of surgical modification of dogs (eg. tail docking, ear clipping etc) is completely banned in Denmark, as is display of dogs having undergone such producedures, even for vetenary reasons - but wiemaraners along with three other breeds are excempt from that legislation, which really goes to show the idiocy of breed standarts requiring docking.

@mamita152208 Hunters often have their tails docked, because in heavy brush the longer tails can become cut-up. That is a situation that is painful for the dog, and often doesn't allow them to hunt until they are healed.

I've had two domestic Weims. One had a docked tail, the other didn't. It really makes no difference for a dog that won't be hunting/retrieving often, imo.

I think that when buying a weim cost isn't something to consider get a weim from a reputable breeder don't promote random backyard breeders these dogs are not something to get for there looks you are taking on a child and they require loads of love and attention and 99 percent the average person can't provide that mine is my baby and he's not very happy without me 24/7

Sorry to dissapoint you but the tails on the adorable puppies have been docked. If used for hunting this actually proves to be a good solution as the weimaraner uses it's tail very vigorously while searching which often result in injuries.

You have to ring the tail if they are going to be working in forests to stop them getting it snagged and caught on trees and long grass. it saves them getting infection and having to get it ut when they are older.
