@LedSledJoe I tried that stuff when I was young. I got dizzy, threw up and realized that I had a hard enough time managing my life while straight. I appreciate the sentiment though.
Then you must have not used very much respect for it when you used it. Using it to get all messed up will indeed mess you up. Kinda like taking ipecac for no good reason. =) I Don't mean to fill your comments with Marijuana rhetoric, I really appreciate the help you're giving out, and wanted to leave a nugget of wisdom in return.
@elliotgain Let alone hating the effects, I don't enjoy the taste or smell of it at all. I don't see why it is important to anyone that I learn to properly use or respect grass. It is a non entity to me. I didn't condemn the use of it for anyone else, or try to convince anyone else not to use it. Wisdom can be either objective or subjective. What is good for you may not be for me, and the thought that I somehow didn't toke right or over did it is wrong. I didn't smoke much. I just hate it.
Thank you for all your videos...they are really helpful learning a new instrument....in a few days with your help I'm already playing a few tunes! You are the Yoda of Banjos! Cheers!
Thanks! In the 'Mel Bay's Banjo Method' book I bought, he says one should tune the 4th string to C (instead of D). It that some special C concert tuning or something? Very frustrating, b/c all the other vids on tuning also say to tune the 4th to D, as do you.
@huffenfuzzen I used to have that book. It is not for bluegrass, but for C tuning. Some bluegrass tunes use that tuning, but the vast majority do not. It is a nice tuning for some things though.
I would learn this way first, if you wish to play bluegrass.
so helpful - i just got my banjo as a gift adn no electric tuner or any experience with it all, so this was VERY helpful! :D thanks for doing something so tedious for us newbies!
@FlopsyDiggins Right you are Flopsy. I need to crack a smile once in awhile. Being a banjo player, I have no teeth though, so I try to keep the grins to a minimum.
Rob, this is a great help. Decided to try to learn again after lamenting over the loss of my first banjo over 35 years ago. Lord only knows why I waited soooo long. It's more fun at 55 than it was at 18. Great teacher, many thanks!
@mrsexyface Who do you think you are, Yoda? Is everyone supposed to listen to you seriously when you talk like that? I would have explained to you that you don't play every note, but the ones on the in between. Hearing the notes often helps people to get the pitch in their brain.
You should be ashamed young man. You didn't pay for anything, and I don't owe you jack. Your generation is the most spoiled, lazy, rude and self entitled bunch of Game Boy playing cry babies, the world has ever known.
@robbourassaguitarist He doesn't speak for our whole generation. I'm 16 and I realize how immpolite it is to say things like that. I thank you for putting this video up, I use it often to tune my banjo!
@Lrg8607 I know, there are a lot of nice young folks out there. I sometimes forget that when I point out the lack of respect that some of these young people have. My kids would never talk to anyone like that. I'm glad the videos help, and sorry for the broad brush. I was 16 once. It was a great age.
@robbourassaguitarist well said mate, the young generations are dumbed doon government reliant idiots, scientific fact, games consoles and to much tv destroy concentration, creativity and brain cells in general... am young ma self and feel sick ti the bone realising the uselessness of ma ain generation.. take nae notice of these dafties, your vids are the best tutors iv found so far well appreciated mate, fi Scotland
@incongra I have an old cashmere jacket that keeps me from getting cold in the winter. I'm in Michigan, and I have to turn the furnace off when I record one of these, or it makes too much noise.
i have a problem. my high D string has this awful buzz. when i try tuning it it just has this high piched buzz wether im playing open notes or on a fret. but when i set the banjo on the ground it sounds normal. i've tried adjusting the bridge. and it's a brand new string.
@300hotboy I would check for a loose bracket. Sympathetic vibrations can cause a buzz on certain notes. Check that all of the brackets are not able to be turned with the finger tips. A loose nut on a bracket usually vibrates.
really helpful - thanks very much! Just got a banjo - someone tuned it for me then my son fiddled with it and put it totally out - would not have managed to sort it without your help so thanks again!
zzzzzzzzzzz is right. I'm about ready to drop off, but you have the wrong idea about the grass. I hate the stuff.
I do most of my videos after my kids have gone to sleep, and the house is quiet, and usually don't get set up properly till 1:00 A.M.. By the time I finish, it is often 3 or 4 in the morning.
