unfortunately...the whole zune line is now RIP. Microsoft quit making them and said they will use the zune software for other stuff. I honestly cant verify that but it does seem true. It sucks though cause I liked both ipod and zune but zune's drm stuff was holding them back. No option to just buy what I want in like a regular store like itunes has or just normal storefront. Also no drm free music. But RIP zune. Ea origin will be joining it soon

the ipod classic i got had an irresponsive LCD and it was financially impractical to get it fixed once the 1 year warranty was up.

I basically ran from apple stores to apple service centers, to even looked to back-alley gadget repair shops and it was just ridiculous.

Apple store charged me $240 for a refurbished model, shady repair shops charged $80-$120 for LCD replacement (and workmanship dings).

zune 80gb is great and for ipo lovers ipods are great. i actually had both but returned the ipod becuase i got bored with it. i like itunes but i hate that i need to have an account in order to veiw album covers. i buy music  online 97% of the time i get cds becuase i have a fried how was a music produce and he get the lates cds so i get my music from him.he has 5 ipods and one zune 30gb and he prefers it over the ipod.

I love my "Zune" i had a 1st gen iPod nano and a 5th gen iPod and i never had a music/video player that can do anything like Zune. I love the easy wireless syncing. I do admit the zune software is not the same as the itunes software and you got to learn your way around it but most of the same ways i would copy my dvd to watch on my iPod and convert my music worked the same for my Zune and i could use the same software.

To be fair most of the time people only buy into Apple because its a 'Cool' and 'Hip' brand, blindly, without actually checking out the market first. I mean the guy in the video is dropping at his Iphone being so wonderful, yet there are a lot of phones here in the UK that are much better, take my N95 for instance, or the N81, the new LG viewty etc.

The Iphone isn't all that, and neither are Ipods. The zune's ok, but the new creative Zen is better IMO. Or the archos 605 wifi for that matter.

Video files from iTunes is hard to convert, but you can easily convert any songs you purchase with iTunes using a CD and then ripping it back off. At least, the ipod work with Linux too. Yes, there are people who made component/plug ins for Linux software to sync the ipod natively in Linux. However, Linux users with Zunes still need to either dualboot or virtualization software.

I'd go with Handbrake. I know people will swear by DVD Shrink, but like DVD decryptor, its not being updated anymore. I have not tried Handbrake on Windows, but I think it should be able to convert to WMV. I heard that just like the ipod, the Zune does not support DIVX.

Handbrake doesn't support WMV, but you can use Encode360 to resize and encode into wmv.

thanks for the info. I sure wish that DIVX was supported on a Zune. After all, DIVX is a format that's pretty universal, because of VLC player and the DIVX codec being available for Mac and Windows. Not only that but also I know that Handbrake can encode DVD rips to DIVX. I just don't get why people say the Zune can play more formats than ipod, but they're both limited on video file formats.
