  • Jeez, it's been a long time since I've been on here. 4 years and over 125k views, not bad. Sorry if I've missed any questions.

  • @Hvysteel ...and it was so much better when it had music. Thanks RIAA, you suck.

  • it didnt work so do u use mrs stewarts bluing or can u use other bluings??

  • @MangoKiwiFruit993 I'm not certain if there is another brand of bluing out there, if there is, I would think it should work.

  • i just used table salt cardboard tree and water does that work?

  • I cant even get mine to grow bigger than my pinky, I am using iodide free salt with a pebble on a pedestool made of fuzzy wire. It's growing on the fuzzy wire more than the pebble.

  • @IncospicousJoe Hmmm, I don't think the idodine free would make any difference. The pebble might be the culprit, try using something that will soak up the fluid better.

  • glad to see I'm not the only one who does random science experiments just for fun! Nerds RULE

  • Ovo mi je baš trebalo u vezi Škole!!!

  • Tommorow will be the 4th LAWL. what a coincidence

  • Cool!! You got great results.

On another note, what did you use to make the Star Wars scroller?

  • nobody uses groovy anymore...

  • 1:04 start of movie :)

  • One of the ingredients for this is ammonia, so it would be really nasty to try.

  • can u eat the salt?

  • Guess what?

FREE SALT! FREE SALT! Now you don't have to go to the store and buy some. X3

  • Wowwww!!!! i Bought some of that at a store it's not like a tissue tube it's a tree or a peackock thing but yours is more beautiful coz mine didn't grow!!!

  • wow that was AWESOME!

  • Cool, but the question is does it work?

  • hipee

  • my teacher made salt crystals he has like 5 gallons of that in a giant container

  • They're not edible? Cuz ammonia is pee?

  • if i dont have ammonia can i just piss in a cup

  • your mom is gonna be pissed when she see's that you shit in her bowl.

  • IT'S SO FLUFFY I'M GONNA DIE!!

  • lol i got 2 days to grow a crystal and that stupid piece of shit dosent grow FUCK

  • eww..

  • NICE INTRO!....

  • RAINBOWAINBOW xD

  • funniest credits ive ever sseen.lol loudest.

  • Today makes the 3 year anniversary that you put this up lol...random thought

  • @WTBeeep Hey you're right! Happy 3 year anniversary!!

  • I used to do this as a kid but with BBQ charcoal and inside a glass jar just when you place the charcoal in the solution you add a few drops of food coloring on top of the charcoal and it will look like a coral reef in a jar.

  • WTF How does it works Oo

  • use pipe cleaners and twist them into different shapes then see what happens

  • is it smokable lol

  • do you really need the Blueing?

  • @CodyT625 I think you do, I'm not sure just what's inthe bluing to make it work or if there is a good subsitute for it.

  • @Hvysteel you can use pipe cleaners and make them into different shapes

  • @CodyT625 Yes, and actually you SPECIFICALLY need Mrs.Stewarts Bluing, it uses a Prussian blue, Iron Compound, while most others use A Sodum Aluminum Silicate.

  • turns out to be... santa's beard! :D

  • Can you like. eat that? Or is it poisonous or something

  • @Brot2UByJT I would not eat it.

  • on 6:09 the blue on the top looks like a blue bunny rabbits head

  • im totally gonna do this what type of salt do you need?

  • @nicotron1 how many types of salts are there you dumbass?

  • @xps100x

there are 6 types of salt:

    Kosher Salt

    Crystalline Sea Salt

    Flaked Sea Salt

    Fleur de Sel

    Rock Salt

    Pickling Salt

thats how many types of salt there are.............dumbass.

  • @bam6470 You're wrong. What about pink salt or sodic glutamate salt? or sodic nitrite salt?

  • @bam6470 Kosher salt? That's a type of salt? that's plain salt processed xD

  • @theendofourchapters are you implying plain kosher salt isn't a type of salt?

  • @bam6470 you win this time....

  • @nicotron1 Sorry I for the late reply, I don't get on here very often and I don't know if I get all the notices when people leave comments. Anyway, I just used plain old table salt.

  • @nicotron1 Sorry for the late reply, I just used plain old table salt.

  • @nicotron1 I just usd plain old table salt.

  • @nicotron1 not anything special just table salt though rock salt could be better because i think its got more minerals in it if that has anything to do with it

  • freaking disgusting, anytime i see something growing out of something in that texture makes me sick to my tummy and makes me grind my teeth. yes its science but god its gross. i can handle seeing dead people over this any day

  • can you eat it?

  • @misslinlindsey I wouldn't try it.

  • actually its just NaCl or nore commonly, table salt itsd just the other chemicals fro the paper may have leached out

  • @misslinlindsey r u a fucking idiot?

  • fairly sure that alchohol can substitute :o

  • heres how it happens:when salt water evaporates it seporates the salt water from the water then it leaves the salt into what ever that poop is... makeing it normal water

  • wow it ends looking pretty gross

  • Quick question, do you have to use Mrs. Stenwart's Bluing? I hadn't heard of it before I saw this video, so I searched it online. I guess it's supposed to whiten clothes or something. Is there any other detergent/chemical I can use? I don't even know where they sell Mrs. Stenwart's.

  • i did the same with just table salt and boiled water .. super saturated solution. and the carton roll like in the vid. salt is actualy poison in large amounts pretty safe still. but it beats the shit of adding ammonia, dont wanna have children play with that.

  • Looks great. Fun stuff! I'm gonna try this.

  • is it happening instantly or over time?

  • I did this using time lapse photography. I had the camera set up to take a picture every 30 minutes for 7 days.

  • @Hvysteel IS IT EDIBLE!?

  • @love2272 I don't suggest eating it.

  • how do take the crystal off the

    thing?

  • When I made this the crystal was very fragile and would fall off without much effort. I don't think there's a good way to take it off without destroying it.

  • That is amazing

  • it works better if you put it on a coal

  • Cool! I never thought about using coal before.

  • you should work on your subscrips H2O is H and 2O, and NH4OH is NH and 4OH

  • isnt H2O hydrogen and hydrogen and one oxygen?

  • Hv2O is, but if you put a normal 2 then it means that there is 2 of everything behind it. but I suppose it people didn't care about nessicary techicalities then you could say H2O is water. but if you wanna be lazy then HOH (hydrogen hydroxide) would be more accurate, and even be the same amount of characters, or O2H although that would be written incorrectly and not really mean anything.

  • thats true

  • @destinationpsp its water

  • dude they already answered my question

  • I want to go make rock candy now! yum! happy new year

  • If you drag that marker across it looks like billowing smoke.

  • wy in hell is Mrs. Stewarts Liquid bluing so importent?

WY CAN´T I USE ONLY SALT, WATER AND AMONIA????!!!!!

  • @blablobla0939 To the best of my knowledge, it might work without it, I think the liquid bluing speeds up the process and gives better results. Try it without and see what happens.

  • Use suger. You can eat it and it taste better.

  • add a few drops of food coloring for color

  • lol why do i always read comments like "are they edible"

Do you people really want to eat a rock so badly xD?

  • yes

  • I wouldn't eat it, the liquid bluing is poisonous.

  • that is awesome

  • can you eat the things that come up?

  • forreal is this shit edible?

  • yea

  • what if it was a rock like covered in toilet paper i mean wouldnt the toilet paper just go away and wats bluning?

  • Could I use a rock in place of the toilet paper roll?

  • A rock MIGHT work...but I'd be a surprised. I think it works better if you use a pourous maerial that can really soak up the solution. I think there was a question like this way back in the comments and someone gave a pretty good answer to it.

  • rocks can be porous...

  • I'd like to see someone try it with a rock for comparison. Pumice, limestone or sandstone or porous...I wonder how well those would work. If anyone out there trys it, let me know how it worked.

  • Had a science kit that did it with rock before. Was in elementary school at the time and not sure if it is the same solution but it should work. Don't even remember what type of rock it was.

  • lava rocks dude. lava rocks :)

  • speed it up 2times:)

  • I wish I could, but I only have Windows Movie Maker to put all the pictures together, and if I rememnber correctly, the shortest amount of time I could set it to was 1 second between each shot.

  • you can speed it up way more, just keep applying the "speed up (double)" effect to each slide

  • Hmmm....I guess missed that option or maybe it wasn't there when I made this. I should see if I can redo it and make it a little faster. Although I had it nicely timed with music...before the copyright block kicked in. :(

  • but when it is a movie you can edit it agian and speed it up..

  • we did this in elementary school water, ammonia, bluing, salt and whatever dye you wanted to add. bluing is harder to acquire now days, probably in small towns with old fashion stores i.e. west virginia maine vermont new hampshire north dakota iowa utah, etc.

  • lol love that intro!!!!! 5/5

  • is the bluing just the food color?and does it have to be like pure ammonia? if so from where/

  • The liquid bluing is a separate chemical, I found it in the laundry isle at the local store. The ammonia is just the stuff off of the store shelves too, usually found by the cleaning supplies.

  • cool vid mate , but do you really need the amonia and the liquid bluing ? cant u just mix water with salt ?

  • its nice but you should of added some music to make it more groovy

    :DD

    awsome 5/5

  • Yeah, I had some music at one time, just imagine Jimmy Hendrix playing "Voodoo Chlid" during the first half, and Iron Butterfly during the last half. RIAA rules got in the way here and I had to "Mute" it. :(

  • some weird thought just crossed my mind and now i want ice cream...

  • XD cool and i dont think you would like the taste :P

    besides it should be toxic

  • Can you eat that??

    Looks tasty :D

  • If you're a risk taker, feel free to try it. Make sure your medical insurance is paid up. :)

  • how to feed crystal like that ? and how big it can grow ?

  • ammonia is an ingrediant in crystal meth.... are you sure its legal to make this stuff?

  • ammonia is in ur pee 2 lol

  • your pee is under arrest

  • ammonia is also in cleaning agents.. like windex not all parts of drugs are illegal

  • i cant seem to find the "Mrs. stewart bluing", can u use something else, to exchanged that? coz im doing a project on this. oh n the "ammino", what sort of household stuff can i use?...im got lost on that part =/

sorry,...plz reply, id really appreciate it =)

  • I'm not sure if there is a substitute for the "Mrs. Stewarts Bluing", anyone out there know of anything?

The bluing and the ammonia should be in the house cleaning area of a Wal-Mart or similar store.

  • oh thanks:)

how long did this take you to grow the crystals that big? so it actually grow that fast in 7 days?

  • You should start seeing some small crystal formations in just a few hours, if I remember correctly, I first saw them along the sprial of the cardboard tube. I think it took a day or two to get the big crystals out.

  • i made it in grade two! everybody's salt crystal were the wrong stuff, except for my group! wohoo!

  • a perpeetum mobile xD

  • I guess it could be if I kept refreshing the solution. :)

  • if you build a tank of water like in the cages of birds... they "refill" itselfs... would be gr8 4 U

  • Is crystal salt salt peter? Its not clean salt peter but still?

  • Hmm...interesting. I did a little research and it may be close to it. But I don't know just what's in the Mrs. Stewart Bluing stuff, so it might be something different by the time the process is done.

  • i did an alum crystal project in 4th grade, they turned out kinda tiny but bluish purple it was cool!

sum1 else i knew made salt crystals

  • fast forword it while its going and you can see it happen fast and it looks like a never ending volcano

  • i hate to be the person to ask this...

but, are these salt crystals edible?

  • I'm pretty sure these are 'table salt' (NaCl) crystals, as you are probably thinking of. I believe the solution in the bowl is ammonia and liquid bluing, so my guess would be that they are not edible.

  • Lol i really woodnt eat them - in 5 th grade we worked with citric acid- it taste reallllllllly sower but i like it

  • what is mrs

  • Comment removed

  • hi, where can i get the liquid bluing and ammonia from? can you get it in supermarkets or something? do they have another name or can you use something else other than these 2 ingredients?

  • Most supermarkets should have these available. I have found the bluing close to the laundry section, and the ammonia close to some floor cleaning supplies. Any brand of ammonia will work. The bluing that I used was "Mrs. Stewerts", there might be another name brand out there.

  • . copy and paste

    2. send this to 2 other videos.

    3. hold your breath for 10 seconds

    4. press refresh twice

    3. LOOK AT YOUR HANDS

  • and soo

u let the precious crystals FALL OFF

  • Yeah...sorry.

  • hi,

i cant get hold of liquid bluing or clear amonia so can you just use the water and the salt or wont it work

  • You could try it, I'm not sure if it would work or not. Somehow I'm thinking it won't, but try it and let me know. It may take a lot longer for anything to happen.

  • ok thanx

  • what is Mrs.Stewarts bluing???

  • you can find a bottle of it at kroger near the clorax it is about $2.99

  • i grew a borax crystal that was about an inch, then transferred it to some hot water and alot of salt it grew big

  • how long does it take???

  • You'll see small crystals start in just a few hours. This whole thing was done over a week and I made a new batch of stuff each day. I'm not sure how long one batch will last.

  • wtf is up with ur name

  • it means heavy steel einstien

  • abdulraheemabdulmumi means heavy steel... right....

  • nvm

  • can u add food coluring?

  • i ate some i dnt fell to good X_x

  • looks like a never ending process if you keep the water supply.

  • why did you list songs in the end credits if there was no sound?

    anyway cool vid

  • Originally it had music on the video, but thanks to the RIAA and stupid copyright laws, I had to "Mute" the music. I have been hoping to put some new music on, but probably won't bea ablt to do it very easily...besides, I can't think of any other artists to replace Hendrix and Iron Butterfly that would fit this video.

  • Is it edible?

  • no its made of ammonia dont eat it...u'll die!!

  • were can i get mrs stewarts liquid blueing - or is there a subsitute i can use? -

  • You should be able to find it in the local store or Wal-Mart in the laundry section. It's in a blue bottle, kinda easy to miss unless you're looking for it. There might be other brands out there too, I'm not sure.

  • My my, that really is spectular. Would be nice with some music (:

  • Yeah, it had some music from Jimi Hendrix and Iron Butterfly, but the RIAA found it and I had to mute it. I've been meaning to try and get some music back on it, but I haven't had a chance to do it...I'm also not sure if I can replace the video without messing up the whole address and stuff.

  • u made crystal meth!!!!!!!!!! =)

  • no no

  • Salt's chemical formula is NOT "NaCL". it is "NaCl"... there's no such thing as an element "L".

  • Yeah, I'm used to typing everything in CAPS because of my job.

  • ITS ALIVE!!! aHAHAHAHA ITS ALIVE!!!!

  • I want to eat that.

  • Hey everyone! Thanks for watching this video, sorry there is no longer any music to go with it...you can thank the RIAA and stupid outdated copyright laws for that. I'm going to try and get something set up again soon that will help enhance this video.

  • o my gosh that is pretty cool

  • sweet video

  • Oh WOW!! The last time I looked at this, I had about 1500 views...now it's past 10,000!! Thanks everyone! Hope you liked it!!

  • liquid bluing??

  • Here's a technical expination accouding to "Verm1n" who left this comment:

"Bluing is a colloidal suspension of Ferric Hexacyanoferrate. This nucleates the crystal growth. Without it all you end up with is an unimpressive crust.

The ammonia is used to aid evaporation and speed the whole process up. It is not strictly necessary but it will take longer for the crystals to form unless you have some warm dry air movement."

I'm not a chemistry guy, so I'll take his word for it.

  • im doing this but i suspended a string in water with the salt evaporated and io getting tiny sheets of crystals begining to form

  • Awesome! Let me know how it works out!
