  • Have Tickets for there Australian tour 2012 tour and I can't wait to see youz after Melbourne's.. Perhaps the hundreds of dollars us thousands save to see you might make you a little more enthusiastic

  • I want to build a Shrine to Radiohead, become a priest there, worship them all the time. Their music is the closest to a religious experience I... no, anyone, can ever have. Hail Radiohead!

  • i love this clip. always wanted to hear their retrospect on kid a. it makes sense why it was such a dark time...i had to be. or the album wouldn't be what it is.

  • god, i love you

  • Where was this concert played?

  • We're not scare mongering. THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING

  • 1 light blue eye and 1 dark blue eye 0_o cool ...

  • thanks for posting!

  • what were the names of the electronic artists he listened to at the time? i know one of them is aphex twin, but does anyone know the others?

  • @fishflow200 Autechre, Aphex Twin, and Warpaint(??). Not sure on last one or even if there was a last one.

  • @fishflow200 Got it, "Autechre, Aphex Twin and lots of stuff on Warp (Records). Warp Records is the label both Autechre and Aphex Twin were on in the early 90s.

  • Just listening to Thome Yorke describe NOT wanting to write music makes me WANT to write. I get inspired about the strangest things.

  • Doesn't Matter,Had Sex

  • i'm a visual artist and this is exactly where i'm at right now. thanks, whoever posted this.

  • @ 17:30= 100x cooler than the lotus flower dancing, cuz it's real.

  • oh man, that live video of Idioteque. Insane!

  • Those lips....

  • @dpthomas37

Lol, Wener Herzog interviewing these quaint, thin-lipped Englishmen would be either remarkable or disastrous.

  • same here @antigrav118. The KoL From the Basement is superb.

  • It's weird how much i think him having short hair made him a better artist/musician

  • @antigrav118yo you must not be a radiohead fan cause last time I checked all there music is incredible. *cough* except pablo honey *cough*

  • @michaelfeldman91 =D yea they are pretty awesome. however....pablo honey>king of limbs....actually pablo honey, bends, ok computer, kid a, amnesiac, all b-sides, all Jonny Greenwoods and Thom Yorke's solo stuff, even In rainbows> King of Limbs. but.......king of limbs>anything from On a Friday

  • @antigrav118 don't bash on King of Limbs until you have listened to the Live from the Basement recording. I didn't like King of Limbs either until I heard that session.

  • @michaelfeldman91 I wouldnt call it bashing, but I have heard it and consider it better as you said. But (not you specifically!!!) when people say KOL is great and pablo honey sucks it drives me bonkers. Pablo Honey is just a totally different band, and it was good. Regardless if it's the radiohead you know and love, because KOL isnt the radiohead you know and love. Their albums should be seen as completely different IMO

  • @antigrav118 did you know Jonny Greenwood did two of the tracks for There Will Be Blood? SO awesome

  • o and I love aphex twin I had no idea he liked that

  • damn I think I like kid a way more now knowing they meant what they said in it like how to disappear completely knowing he meant it

  • At least the interviewer could give THOM a comfortable sofa or something with back to sit on...?

  • This is not only a great interview, it's one of the most inspirational stories I've ever heard. I watch this video all the time as a sort of mantra to remind myself that even my heroes have been through rough periods of uncertainty and stasis. They've always persevered despite the circumstances and redefined music in the process. Their musical intuition, their ability to trust each other's musical instincts during times of hardship, is the stuff of legend.

  • I'm a massive Coldplay and Radiohead fan. I just realised that Coldplay may have used one of Thoms quotes and made a reference to it in one of their songs from this interview. Does anyone else know or have a clue what i mean? It may just be coincidence though.

  • @MrHozzam maybe you should elaborate what the quote was lol

  • I didn't like that live version of Idioteque...

  • @Pittsisamazing utube doesnt do it justice

  • @Antiks72 thom yorke will knock u out dickhead

  • Thom Yorke belongs in a mental institution.

  • @Antiks72 seriously stop talking. you're comments are a waste of people's time to look at. if you are a true radiohead fan which you are not you would realize all the albums are great in their own aspect.

  • @anythingskim "I don't like guitar anymore." Waaaaaaah. Fuck off, Thom.

  • @anythingskim I love all their albums, except Pablo Honey, its not good In My Opinion.

  • @JamesPurcellie You think pablo honey is better than king of limbs, though?

  • @antigrav118 king of Limbs is good, in my opinion but, Pablo Honey, I just couldnt get into.

  • I remember buying Kid A and being horribly disappointed coming off OK Computer. Still fucking sucks.

  • @Antiks72 No

  • @Antiks72 ur a fucking idiot

  • @vanhelsin328 Spell 'you're' and I'll give you a cookie.

  • @Antiks72 u must be one pretentious twat to actually give people spelling tips on a fucking comments page on youtube, and you know shit all about radiohead...idiot

  • @vanhelsin328 I know Thom Yorke should be in a mental ward.

  • @Antiks72 what?

  • @vanhelsin328 He takes himself sooo seriously. lol

  • @Antiks72 You just badmouthed Kid A on a video about Kid A- shut the fuck up. You cunt.

  • @FeedbackVoice OOOOO u mad.

  • TY-"I stopped lost in the guitar"

    Interviewer-"But Radiohead has 3 guitarists?"

    TY-"Bummer isn't it"

    Thoms hilarious

  • Comment removed

  • i completely agree with you

  • how to dissapear might be the best radiohead song of all. I recommend to everyone who can to play it. After a minute playing it it´s like you are hipnotized or travelling out of your body. just amazing, I don´t know any other song that does that

  • Radiohead is the greatest band alive, hands down, no doubt about it.

  • @rachelshakedown that's merely your opinion, hands down, no doubt about it.

  • @rachelshakedown I understand Radiohead doesnt conform. But would YOU agree that they would be near perfect if it wasnt for songs like a Paranoid Android or National Anthem? Those two songs are one of the main reasons they may never reach a Floyd status!? Out of control instruments and singing, make many people uncomfortable no matter how genius..no?

  • @mrdave777 perfect for what?

  • @maccles1 Perfect for the average, mass audiences I know they would attract....kind of like Metallica with their black album. BUT, Radiohead doesnt conform and that is why they are genius in their own right!

  • @mrdave777 Ahh, okay, I think I see what you mean. Perfect for corporate predators to bleed dry; perfect money spinners for the leeches who decide what 'music' young people are supposed to like and what image they're supposed to relate to and buy into; perfect chains for fat cats to bind their slaves who long for art that stimulates their souls and have to settle for a controlled opposition to American Idol and Rhianna.

    Thank God for imperfection.

  • Does he feel the same way about Kid A now? Can't listen to it?

  • what he said about rothko (correct me if i'm wrong) is thhe same thing that happened to kurt cobain.

    thom is a smart guy.

  • These are awful camera shots. It makes the documentary even hard to watch.

  • @GorillaandCo no no, they are brilliant, they allow us to see the emotion in his expressions. the wide angle interview shots are bleak and boring and offer no excitement.

  • this was incredibly helpful - hearing him speak about the rigors or being a musician and writer's block, which I've had for a while off and on. he speaks from the heart and sings what he feels which makes him the great artist he is. aside from pj harvey, zeppelin, u2 and muse, radiohead top the list for me as far as musical artists go. thanks Thom for your insights as they are much needed.

  • "i never thought it would happen, but then it did, and people bought tickets, it was like fuck, we actually have to do this now"

haha i love Thom Yorke, brilliant :-D

  • What a documentary, and he is completely right: Radiohead never was, and never will be a rock band. But they don't need to be to be as hardcore as they are. That's why I love them so much aside from their music, is just their philosophy on music. They're geniuses and leagues above the snotty modern pop artists we have today.

  • @ghosthunternumerouno That's why I think it is much easier to describe Radiohead in album eras as opposed to genres. It's a better way to think about how their music has changed; how it has evolved.

  • @SpoonHysteria I agree people ask me who my favorite band is, and I say Radiohead. Some people I talk to know who they are, but unfortunately most don't and go on to ask me what genre of music they are, and I never really know what to say. And then they end up looking at me like I'm weird, and I'll say well they are kind of an alternative rock band but not really. And then they're like oh rock! And I'm like well no not really. And I end up having to change the subject.

  • @TheKGamer08

    THAT FEEL

  • @TheKGamer08

    THAT FEEL

  • @SpoonHysteria ok so just in your opinion, what has it evolved to now. Because from pablo honey to 2+2=5 it was a pretty clear rock to synth type path (summed up). but then what is in rainbows and king of limbs? and cant figure out how to place them. im not exaggerating when i say ive listened to both albums atleast once a day for the past two months.

  • @ghosthunternumerouno Tom Yorke shuld connect with John Fruciante...he said the same things ;in interviews too. H e only wanted to do small gigs...He hated touring, that's why he quit the Peppers again. Could you imagine if Tom and John and Jonny got together and made music together?

Radiohead is in a league of their own!!!!

  • @ghosthunternumerouno Never WAS? Sorry they definitely were a Rock band up to and including OK Computer.

  • @DoubleO711 I don't think he was talking about the music itself, as he says, being called a 'rock' band associates him with a culture he doesn't like. It's kinda pointless to argue which albums are 'rock' and which aren't because you're both missing the point.

  • @TheSludgeMan The culture doesn't matter though. Being a Rock band doesn't have to do with a culture. It's just the type of music they made. All I'm saying is that if you wanna argue that Pablo Honey or The Bends aren't Rock albums.......well you're wrong.

  • @DoubleO711 I would even say in rainbows is a rock album. well more alt rock.

  • does he have a bit of a facial palsy?

I would have a doctor look into it, seriously.

  • @novanine9 it's called lazy eye and doctors can't do anything about it, or do you seriously think to be the first one to notice? I don't care cuz I listen to the music and love him as a person, but it seems you do.

  • @GrooveInYourOwnTime - I had an ex girlfriend who suffered partial facial palsy so I think that it is more than just a lazy eye, from what I have observed.

This has nothing to do with his music, whatsoever. I was genuinely showing concerned.

    He's, also, a human being...

  • @novanine9 well he's 43 now, don't you think he already noticed that problem and took all possible precautions? I don't think anyone likes when someone notices a physical deformation and even less when he talks about it, so don't worry about him,he doesn't need help

  • @GrooveInYourOwnTime -Well with that logic...that's neither your place to comment on what he would or would not want.

Take your sad news somewhere else, troll.

  • @novanine9 you wish I was a troll. Thom got angry more than once for lazy eye references, it's actually not your place to comment on his most obvious problem.

  • @GrooveInYourOwnTime - Still?

That IS why you're a troll

  • @novanine9 or maybe I love you too fucking much

  • @GrooveInYourOwnTime - Okay, fine...you win

  • @novanine9

He just has a drooping eye from a 'botched surgery'. Random facial twitching is just fun if it's voluntary.

  • Stereospeak=the next Radiohead. Watch.

  • In Limbo may be my favourite song of all time.

  • @srimecrime My fav!

  • God the interviewer is so stupid lol like a shitty phychiatrist, taking everything so literally. Thom: "I felt stuck." Interviewer: "You like sat at home not moving?"

    Fuck

  • @futurfry I know. I think that any time I see Thom being interviewed. He must be hard to interview though.

  • I've been a radiohead fan for a while now but somehow always avoided watching interviews or anything that wasn't directly their *music*, I feel it could somehow ruin or blur the way I feel about the songs, but I was wrong, I'm glad I decided to take a peek at this man's brilliance.

  • That's incredible...

    vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

  • Thom: ..to try and remember the songs, but umm, I can’t do that, I find it really freaks me out.

Interviewer: Is it because of the music, the lyrics?

Thom: No just uhh, it kinda sends you back to a place, makes you feel little. I think once you finish the record, like you have all the power and emotions to do it, as you’re doing it, and when it’s finished, that’s over, that’s it. It’s really, it’s very difficult then to connect with it, because it’s other people’s, It’s other people’s property.

  • The performance of "How To Disappear Completely" that is played around 21:24, was one of the first performances I found online a long time ago before youtube. I have the full version of the performance on my channel. Check it out if you havent seen it. Its not the best that I have seen now that youtube has unlimited videos of it live, but its still worth checking out. It is quite a rare video of it nonetheless.

  • @ThomYorkesLazyEye I must say that I love your username. Thom's eye is pretty much the source of all his power.

  • Its interesting to see the interview bits spliced with the concert parts because you really see a different person, just a transformation when he's playing music and performing it, enjoying himself, and then he's quite serious when he's talking about his life and experience with creating the albums. I always find myself realizing how much I really love Radiohead.

  • is thom multilingual? the way that some of these interviews are edited together it makes it seem like he knows japanese and french.

  • idiotique was amazing

  • 4:00. Thoms not down with o.p.p

  • "other peoples property" coming from a mega millionaire! things that are said like the from a person like he is hyprictal.... as is "rock music fucking sucks" "the mythology... talking to certain people" -hes giving a fucking interview about his rock album. seriously.. love him blah poor him for making million off what he fucking hates... so lame. this is why people hate to interview their fav artists.... they either say shit like this or spew political crap they know nothing about. lame

  • @officialdjdirtyjake you've obviously not listened to the Kid A album. thom yorke is the real deal, and really. rock music? if we wanted to show aliens rock music, do we send them this album? this is art :)

  • @ramelanen obviously your not getting what i was pointing out.... he is hypocritical in what he says... who cares about the album (ill admit i love -Everything In Its Right Place, How To Disappear Completely, Motion Picture Soundtrack, Optimistic and treefingers all great).. but he cant say it all fucking sucks when he made his career on it from his previous albums. point in hand he is calling the kettle black when he himself is a kettle. LAME!

  • @officialdjdirtyjake you've never written a song, have you?

  • @gl0gg actually many.... but thats not the point... im not saying anything about his music or songs... its just stupid the way he says "rock music fucking sucks".... its beyond ironic.

  • @officialdjdirtyjake p.s for him to say rock music fucking sucks.. is like picaso saying painting fucking sucks.

  • @officialdjdirtyjake ...have you even listened to Kid A?

  • I wonder if he's the reincarnation of Vincent van Gogh.

  • I enjoyed the interview very much.I'm glad Thom didn't quit Radiohead and is still playing the guitair.Didn't even know he was thinking like this when Kid A came out.Man is a musical genius.

  • im surprised more people dont talk about thom :P

  • @wolfeman323232 because people don't care about a quiet and honest artist making music. they want a arrogant conceited asshole who records shit just to improve his image and his ego.

  • @kermicheo what i mean to say is that not enough people talk well about him, if they say anything its all rubbish making him and the band sound like trash, which should never happen.

  • 36:54 - jazz note. nice

  • Thom Yorke is just so fucking awesome. I'd be nervous to meet him because he would probably ignore me, but I don't give a shit. He's a fucking genius.

  • @cousins851 totally agree. I spend way too much time thinking about what I could say to him that he would actually be happy to hear, rather than irritated haha. I've still got nothing!

  • i love them and all but this doc is a bit dodgy to be honest. it´s as if someone who´s kinda obsessed with thome york , broke into his house and forced this interview out of him.

  • I just love the fact that he works so hard to keep his (and the bands) private life separated from the music.

It shows us how serious he is when it comes to music making.

  • 26:38 i want this watch :D

  • @benjaminkinkaidiris Dude, get all that sand out of your vagina. If you don't like this band, stay away from it. Simple.

  • if thom had a huge writer's block, did johnny write most of the tracks on kid a?

  • @HuginnG

Musically they collaborated but thom still wrote the lyrics. They were kinda lost musically but in order to get out of the rut they were in they would jam and just cut out the bad parts and piece together the music. They got the idea from early rap artists if you can believe it.

  • i noticed in interviews and in "No Surprises" music videos he is only shown from the head up why is that.

  • @Detenators To protect his identity as Big Foot

  • @SpoonHysteria every year or so I come across a youtube comment that is priceless. this is one of them.

  • @Detenators you stupid cunt

  • @DoctorMeatDic lol what? ok i guess im a stupid cunt thats ok with me.

  • u guys need to watch this with music (RaDiOHEaD) in the background its so FLiPing WiCkEd

  • 1:32 (cameraman) COME OOON!!! SHOW UZ A TEAR FOR THE CAMERA!!!!! COME ON!!

  • He is wearing a calculator watch. Just when I thought he couldn't get any more awesome..

  • @benjaminkinkaidiris shut up you cunt.

  • "You choose to go and get drunk and enjoy life and just forget about it. And just wait for it to come back." Damn. It's like poetry haha

  • Cameraman is creepy ;-(

  • @wonnatryit I think your missing Damon Albarn

  • @wonnatryit putting people on pedestals isn't healthy!

  • @wonnatryit Not just Uk artists, but artists period.

  • @wonnatryit Might i add Pulp

  • @wonnatryit Don't forget Pink Floyd.

  • @CasperGgoodwood Or Aphex Twin. Maybe Van der Graaf Generator as well.

  • What an interview.

  • I love how Thom stays completely true to the fact that he wants people to appreciate the music, and not worry about what the people behind the music are doing. He sees music as an art form that can be interpreted differently by the individual, but that that interpretation shouldn't be based upon the artist who makes it actually happen.

  • So much better than the "Kid A Lives" doc

  • I need to know what show this version of idioteque is from... it's so awesome.

  • Rock is stupid. Trent Reznor finished his recording contract with the completion of Year Zero. Under his private recording company "The Null Corporation" he wrote recorded and released the album "The Slip" and said to himself "That was fun. You never could have done that before." Musical politics and expectations are retarded.

  • Wow. Fucking wow.

  • Kid A is a great Album.........far better than the dross of Pablo Honey.

But I do think it is ironic that Richard D James (who Mr Yorke is a fan boy) thinks that Radiohead is shit. Dunno what Booth and Brown think, it can't be that much though as they never mention him........

  • @dopplereffeckt675 i've heard they're not big fans either

  • @JosephKnight93

That seems about right.......I guess most electronica artists are turned off by rock star attitudes (as displayed in the video)-just look at the what RDJ did with his "remix" of the Lemonheads (random gabba so we are led to believe).

If you want to hear haunting electronica I would recommend listening to Autechre's Oversteps (for example). I do like Radiohead has always seemed natural that they go into electronica-but they are just rock fans copying DJ's......

  • @dopplereffeckt675 for all it's experimentalism kid a is fairly convention rock music by comparison to the Warp guys...i think thats part of why they're not too thrilled by it.

I'm going through the autechre discography (slowly) and have just listened to untilted for the umpteenth time, so i will be at oversteps before long.

  • @JosephKnight93

Check out German electronica-Basic Channel, Gas, Mike Ink, Monolake, Pole and labels like BPitch Control,Kompakt, Morr Music, Basic Replay, Chain Reaction-very much dubby, watery electronica and glitchy sounscapes.

The way i see it Radiohead is entry level stuff to electronica (and Krautrock)-exploring new sounds and artists is half the joy of music.

  • @dopplereffeckt675

Check Out Basic Channel-Radiance I (Edit)............amazing that this was produced in 1995!

  • paused at 35:06 like you suggested

that one that springs to mind is "adorable"

  • what year was this filmed??

  • if I read the word troll one more time I may assault a minor

  • wow i think thom hated this interview or after a while into it at least.

  • i really respect his stance on not talking about his bandmate's relationships with each other. that stuff is so irrelevent and it's so easy to get bogged down in it and miss the substance of what they produce.

  • ive never been so interested in somebody's opinion and had my eyes so opened

  • @nickel9696

Me either. That is so interesting!!I always dreamed to know what the fuck passed trough thom's mind. And now there's a tip..

  • He's so aware of what's going on with everything that it was harming him. So many artists would just love to replicate what they've already done, but for him, that was the antithesis of freedom. Good for you, Thom.

  • "I personally totally lost interest in playing guitar." C'MON!! That's a fib, he loves his art, he was trying not to smile.

  • I love the band, love yorke too. But jezus fucking christ, if Yorke would read the comments you "yorke lovers" post around here he'd shoot himself! And it would be your own fault.

  • kid A. great album. im glad to know i was listening to the same music at the time

  • genius
