@SpoonHysteria ok so just in your opinion, what has it evolved to now. Because from pablo honey to 2+2=5 it was a pretty clear rock to synth type path (summed up). but then what is in rainbows and king of limbs? and cant figure out how to place them. im not exaggerating when i say ive listened to both albums atleast once a day for the past two months.

@novanine9 you wish I was a troll. Thom got angry more than once for lazy eye references, it's actually not your place to comment on his most obvious problem.
God the interviewer is so stupid lol like a shitty phychiatrist, taking everything so literally. Thom: "I felt stuck." Interviewer: "You like sat at home not moving?"
I've been a radiohead fan for a while now but somehow always avoided watching interviews or anything that wasn't directly their *music*, I feel it could somehow ruin or blur the way I feel about the songs, but I was wrong, I'm glad I decided to take a peek at this man's brilliance.
Thom: ..to try and remember the songs, but umm, I can’t do that, I find it really freaks me out.
Interviewer: Is it because of the music, the lyrics?
Thom: No just uhh, it kinda sends you back to a place, makes you feel little. I think once you finish the record, like you have all the power and emotions to do it, as you’re doing it, and when it’s finished, that’s over, that’s it. It’s really, it’s very difficult then to connect with it, because it’s other people’s, It’s other people’s property.
The performance of "How To Disappear Completely" that is played around 21:24, was one of the first performances I found online a long time ago before youtube. I have the full version of the performance on my channel. Check it out if you havent seen it. Its not the best that I have seen now that youtube has unlimited videos of it live, but its still worth checking out. It is quite a rare video of it nonetheless.
Its interesting to see the interview bits spliced with the concert parts because you really see a different person, just a transformation when he's playing music and performing it, enjoying himself, and then he's quite serious when he's talking about his life and experience with creating the albums. I always find myself realizing how much I really love Radiohead.
"other peoples property" coming from a mega millionaire! things that are said like the from a person like he is hyprictal.... as is "rock music fucking sucks" "the mythology... talking to certain people" -hes giving a fucking interview about his rock album. seriously.. love him blah poor him for making million off what he fucking hates... so lame. this is why people hate to interview their fav artists.... they either say shit like this or spew political crap they know nothing about. lame
@officialdjdirtyjake you've obviously not listened to the Kid A album. thom yorke is the real deal, and really. rock music? if we wanted to show aliens rock music, do we send them this album? this is art :)
@ramelanen obviously your not getting what i was pointing out.... he is hypocritical in what he says... who cares about the album (ill admit i love -Everything In Its Right Place, How To Disappear Completely, Motion Picture Soundtrack, Optimistic and treefingers all great).. but he cant say it all fucking sucks when he made his career on it from his previous albums. point in hand he is calling the kettle black when he himself is a kettle. LAME!
@gl0gg actually many.... but thats not the point... im not saying anything about his music or songs... its just stupid the way he says "rock music fucking sucks".... its beyond ironic.
I enjoyed the interview very much.I'm glad Thom didn't quit Radiohead and is still playing the guitair.Didn't even know he was thinking like this when Kid A came out.Man is a musical genius.
@wolfeman323232 because people don't care about a quiet and honest artist making music. they want a arrogant conceited asshole who records shit just to improve his image and his ego.
@kermicheo what i mean to say is that not enough people talk well about him, if they say anything its all rubbish making him and the band sound like trash, which should never happen.
Thom Yorke is just so fucking awesome. I'd be nervous to meet him because he would probably ignore me, but I don't give a shit. He's a fucking genius.
@cousins851 totally agree. I spend way too much time thinking about what I could say to him that he would actually be happy to hear, rather than irritated haha. I've still got nothing!
i love them and all but this doc is a bit dodgy to be honest. it´s as if someone who´s kinda obsessed with thome york , broke into his house and forced this interview out of him.
Musically they collaborated but thom still wrote the lyrics. They were kinda lost musically but in order to get out of the rut they were in they would jam and just cut out the bad parts and piece together the music. They got the idea from early rap artists if you can believe it.
The guys a genius. Not many UK artists exist like him anymore.
A few who do are most likely the likes of David Bowie, Tricky, Elbow, Polly Harvey, Massive Attack, Faithless, Unkle, Gary Numan and newer artists like The XX, Scroobius Pip, AllFlaws
I love how Thom stays completely true to the fact that he wants people to appreciate the music, and not worry about what the people behind the music are doing. He sees music as an art form that can be interpreted differently by the individual, but that that interpretation shouldn't be based upon the artist who makes it actually happen.
Rock is stupid. Trent Reznor finished his recording contract with the completion of Year Zero. Under his private recording company "The Null Corporation" he wrote recorded and released the album "The Slip" within a month and said to himself "That was fun. You never could have done that before." Musical politics and expectations are retarded.

Kid A is a great Album.........far better than the dross of Pablo Honey.
But I do think it is ironic that Richard D James (who Mr Yorke is a fan boy) thinks that Radiohead is shit. Dunno what Booth and Brown think, it can't be that much though as they never mention him........
That seems about right.......I guess most electronica artists are turned off by rock star attitudes (as displayed in the video)-just look at the what RDJ did with his "remix" of the Lemonheads (random gabba so we are led to believe).
If you want to hear haunting electronica I would recommend listening to Autechre's Oversteps (for example). I do like Radiohead has always seemed natural that they go into electronica-but they are just rock fans copying DJ's......
@dopplereffeckt675 for all it's experimentalism kid a is fairly convention rock music by comparison to the Warp guys...i think thats part of why they're not too thrilled by it.
I'm going through the autechre discography (slowly) and have just listened to untilted for the umpteenth time, so i will be at oversteps before long.
Check out German electronica-Basic Channel, Gas, Mike Ink, Monolake, Pole and labels like BPitch Control,Kompakt, Morr Music, Basic Replay, Chain Reaction-very much dubby, watery electronica and glitchy sounscapes.
The way i see it Radiohead is entry level stuff to electronica (and Krautrock)-exploring new sounds and artists is half the joy of music.
i really respect his stance on not talking about his bandmate's relationships with each other. that stuff is so irrelevent and it's so easy to get bogged down in it and miss the substance of what they produce.
He's so aware of what's going on with everything that it was harming him. So many artists would just love to replicate what they've already done, but for him, that was the antithesis of freedom. Good for you, Thom.
I love the band, love yorke too. But jezus fucking christ, if Yorke would read the comments you "yorke lovers" post around here he'd shoot himself! And it would be your own fault.

@ThomYorkesLazyEye I must say that I love your username. Thom's eye is pretty much the source of all his power.

Its interesting to see the interview bits spliced with the concert parts because you really see a different person, just a transformation when he's playing music and performing it, enjoying himself, and then he's quite serious when he's talking about his life and experience with creating the albums. I always find myself realizing how much I really love Radiohead.

is thom multilingual? the way that some of these interviews are edited together it makes it seem like he knows japanese and french.

@officialdjdirtyjake you've obviously not listened to the Kid A album. thom yorke is the real deal, and really. rock music? if we wanted to show aliens rock music, do we send them this album? this is art :)
ramelanen 6 months ago
@ramelanen obviously your not getting what i was pointing out.... he is hypocritical in what he says... who cares about the album (ill admit i love -Everything In Its Right Place, How To Disappear Completely, Motion Picture Soundtrack, Optimistic and treefingers all great).. but he cant say it all fucking sucks when he made his career on it from his previous albums. point in hand he is calling the kettle black when he himself is a kettle. LAME!

I enjoyed the interview very much.I'm glad Thom didn't quit Radiohead and is still playing the guitair.Didn't even know he was thinking like this when Kid A came out.Man is a musical genius.

im surprised more people dont talk about thom :P
wolfeman323232 7 months ago
@wolfeman323232 because people don't care about a quiet and honest artist making music. they want a arrogant conceited asshole who records shit just to improve his image and his ego.
kermicheo 5 months ago
@kermicheo what i mean to say is that not enough people talk well about him, if they say anything its all rubbish making him and the band sound like trash, which should never happen.

@cousins851 totally agree. I spend way too much time thinking about what I could say to him that he would actually be happy to hear, rather than irritated haha. I've still got nothing!

i love them and all but this doc is a bit dodgy to be honest. it´s as if someone who´s kinda obsessed with thome york , broke into his house and forced this interview out of him.
gordonhogan 7 months ago
I just love the fact that he works so hard to keep his (and the bands) private life separated from the music.
It shows us how serious he is when it comes to music making.

if thom had a huge writer's block, did johnny write most of the tracks on kid a?
HuginnG 8 months ago
@HuginnG
Musically they collaborated but thom still wrote the lyrics. They were kinda lost musically but in order to get out of the rut they were in they would jam and just cut out the bad parts and piece together the music. They got the idea from early rap artists if you can believe it.

i noticed in interviews and in "No Surprises" music videos he is only shown from the head up why is that.

Dunno what Booth and Brown think, it can't be that much though as they never mention him........
dopplereffeckt675 9 months ago
@dopplereffeckt675 i've heard they're not big fans either
JosephKnight93 9 months ago
@JosephKnight93
I do like Radiohead has always seemed natural that they go into electronica-but they are just rock fans copying DJ's......
dopplereffeckt675 9 months ago
@dopplereffeckt675 for all it's experimentalism kid a is fairly convention rock music by comparison to the Warp guys...i think thats part of why they're not too thrilled by it.
I'm going through the autechre discography (slowly) and have just listened to untilted for the umpteenth time, so i will be at oversteps before long.
JosephKnight93 9 months ago
@JosephKnight93
Check out German electronica-Basic Channel, Gas, Mike Ink, Monolake, Pole and labels like BPitch Control,Kompakt, Morr Music, Basic Replay, Chain Reaction-very much dubby, watery electronica and glitchy sounscapes.
The way i see it Radiohead is entry level stuff to electronica (and Krautrock)-exploring new sounds and artists is half the joy of music.

i really respect his stance on not talking about his bandmate's relationships with each other. that stuff is so irrelevent and it's so easy to get bogged down in it and miss the substance of what they produce.

sundaysheebsmusic 9 months ago
He's so aware of what's going on with everything that it was harming him. So many artists would just love to replicate what they've already done, but for him, that was the antithesis of freedom. Good for you, Thom.
