I just came back here on this thread, after a year or so.

It's been almost three years or something since I owned the pos in question.

Anyway, I'm glad it got stolen, cus it seems like it's a laptop exclusively used by stupid people - for everyone who has it has bad grammar and poor English...

i have had this computer for well over 3 years and the only problem i have had with it is fucking vista. ** mumbles shit about vista being shity and stuff** i installed Ubuntu 10.06 in oct of last year and upgraded to 11.04 in April and i have to say, other than when its running vista, its a great piece of machinery. i use it daily and im on it right now. i guess im a lucky one because i haven't even had hard drive failure. one day i will frame it and keep it where all can see.

Don't buy this laptop, the Cinedash freezes quite often (only fix is to turn off and remove battery...great in the middle of a presentation), the CD drive's broken twice, it crashes to blue screen RANDOMLY once or twice a month.

Too bad because it's good when it works.

But you can't rely on it.

depends what u want to run.. i would go with a laptop with a duel core instead of centrino... one with a math coprocessor

It can run lots of games easily! It was just that some of the laptops were released with a corrupt heat sensor that sensed low temperatures as high ones, so they throttled (decreased CPU power to cool down) when the temperature went up just a bit.

I have one and i play GTA IV, TF2, Oblivion, Mirrors Edge and COD4/5 on it on highest settings - runs smoothly! (mine is not upgraded)

Actually with a 512mb 9500M nvidia card and an intel dual core you can indeed play gta iv on this laptop. You just need a better way to keep it cool.

GTA 4 is just too demanding for this laptop to handle. You should have no problems at all with The Sims 3 though, as it easily meets the recommended specification because EA want as many people to be able to play it as possible. It's generally not too graphics-heavy either, so you'll be fine.

(I've ordered this laptop, the sims 3 was a requirement heh)

I have got this similar model more advanced model Acer Aspire 6935G which has duo 2 core T9400 with TV tuner card. Till now performance is awesome, sound output is outstanding. Its like small home theater. Blu Ray movie plays awesome. Its good for them who wants to replace their Desktop PC, and like to watch HD movie and playing high end games.

-I can't get the dvb-t to work, its scanning and then he writes no services found, but my tv can find this services...

i would not say that. its not a bad laptop. the 8920 is 1149 at Micro Center. I played the bluray looking at Rambo and the bluray did not blow me away like they said it would..i think its the Acer screen that not so good.Maybe it will have that ooooooo look if i plug in a hi def monitor on the side. but still a nice laptop

when you like a big screen, full hd, perfect colors, perfect sound even with bass, big keyboard, long battery, black piano look and keys, very good graphic, blue lights and much more, then i would prefer 8920G. I really love it. Because Macbook is for someone who works a lot with that, i mean in a office for a designer who creates logo's for his factore 4 example.

When you like big and elegant things, then take the Acer. You will love it. And i think it's cheaper than macbook pro

just a side note: this machine is not the most mobile. it is more of a desktop replacement. it dosent hit high temps when running WoW, but it really is'nt a computer you run around flabbing about. someone would prolly steal it ;)

I'm not crazy about Acers (see comsumer reports), but since my DH is left handed, the control thing on the left would be ok for him. Odd placement for righthanders. Still an Acer though, so def not sure. Think I'll go for a Mac, although this is on sale for $699 at Circuit City this week.

i highly advise it. It is an amazing machine. Startup time is the best i've ever seen in a non solid state HD. the keyboard is nice and clean and you dont have to worry about wear.
