I don't know why, but for me, Mercury Messenger is not that flashy, but works great and it fully customizable. It do have errors, it's an open source software after all.
@Filadox yup, you can d/l customizable sounds too.. I just wish that it had Direct connect for AIM. I wish I could use Pidgin but you need to go through too much trouble
