People really make me sick. 0:43 is beautiful, graceful and all a horse should be. But 0:48 and on is just shameful. I can honestly say we don't deserve the likes of animals.
Wow...this looks awful. What's with the stupid looking giant shoes? Why would anyone treat a beatiful animal like this? What's wrong with treating a horse nicely? Treat your horse with love and respect and he will not only look better but preform better too. But i guess it's more fun to treat it like crap.
OMGGGGGGG, WHAT IS THIS SHIT?! ANIMAL TORTURE SUITS FINE. Normal horses acting like Icelandic horses is WRONG! It hurts my heart seeing things like this!
As someone who shows horses on the circuit, it is absolutely horrific to see how awful someone can treat a horse. Horses are incredible, beautiful creatures, and to put them in any type of harm absolutely kills me, especially when its for your own person need to win a ribbon and some cash. Wow. Shame on these horse owners.
I will never be able to look at the horses the same again. I had no idea that this is what they do to get these horses to walk like that. It's positively deplorable!
OH my got this is so awful. That just looks ugly! there isn't anything pretty about it! did you know they also break their tails to make them stand up like that, and wrap it up so they are always in pain? and their stalls. Total darkness with blindfolds on their head, so that when they take it off and go into the show ring, they look "attentive with ears forward" but really, their eyes have no idea what this such thing called light is! CRUEL.
I can't believe this type of 'showing' is still legal and accepted in this day and age. Surely it's only practiced by illiterate morons. Who else would find this appropriate? just an absolute disgrace and why can't Americans see this?
I am thinking about getting myself one of those horses, but not for that, I wanna own one for dressage, jumping and out-riding, and not for abusing it. Has anybody got any experience on how those horses are in dressage sports?
@xNATHALIEx1996 I think they would be nice for dressage, I have used one for jumping and she LOVED it! But they don't know how to canter, so that is something you will have to teach them.
the chains usually dont hurt them... my neighbor uses them and they just slide... not making sores. my neighbor doen't use chemicals though and he raised Bob Dillin's Ebony Threat. the way they are shod to have the high hooves hurts them too.... founder. I think the horses should be bred into... not made what they arent.
Exactly. Horses should be trained or bred to lift their feet high, Not forced. Look at Icelandics while they tolt. They lift their feet high, and many of them are barefoot. My 4-H leader shows Percherons, and she has their feet specially trimmed in a way that they will lift them high. That doesn't hurt them at all. It's sick that people use chemicals. I think it looks horrible when they lift their feet so high they are nearly rearing with each step. ugh
Make the trainers look bad. Not the horses. Also, not all walking horses are treated like this. Born and raised in the business and my dad use to be a trainer but I liked jumping more. I know soring is very common and its cheating but they DO have checking areas and thermal cams to see if the horse is sore. Trainers who are caught are suspended. Just because TN is the walking horse state, dont hate. Some people need to get what they deserve. It is cruel but not every TWH is sored.
In addition to that, the horses who carry their tails very high have no choice but to do so. When they are young the muscles at the base of their tails are cut, which causes that high tail carriage.
twh are supposed to move like thats what they are bred for it doesnt hurt them. the heavy chains are mean but they arent allowed only 2 oz chains and thats no weight at all
if you look at one of these horse from behind, you can see how their legs (back ones in particular) have actually changed position and shape to try to support themselves in this horrible act. Poor things :(
I'm very proud and happy to live in Europe where such kind of cruelty to animals is forbidden! Nobody is allowed here to show a horse in such a degrading state and that's also the reason why all those actually beautiful gaited horses from the USA will never ever be famous over here...because nobody would tolerate such a thing. In my eyes, we are much more progressive in saving horses from being used in such a way! God save Europe!!!
Thanks for posting this video. My tennesse walker was abused by her trainer because she was confused by the transition and picks up the pace constantly. She was so scared of arenas and it's been only a year and a half since she's been calm. These horses can do so much more! My Gracie jumps and gallops like a dream bareback now (not to brag :3) and she can pick up the running walk with some asking. Let their head bop and if their not born with it, don't force it!!!!
Simple way to stop this over-exaggerated movement, so that only natural remains, ban the heavy pad shoes, ban the chains (even if they cause no harm they look unnatural) ban any form of drug in the horses system, so as well as checking for soring, any drug would carry an automatic ban. Horse found with drug = that horse being unable to be bred from. 3xhorses in violation of rules = stud/showman from being able to show again....that would shut the buisness down. Keep it natural and true
half the stuff they say isnt true. yeah cahins may cause wounds. if you dont take care of the horse....chains dont hurt the horses at all. it is like wearing a braclet.... in the video she said " horses riv wearing metal chains around each ankle". to a horse a chain is about as heavy as a braclett is to humans. they use cahins and pads on TWH. and horses will step high to try to throw them off. if these horses are all soooo sore and hurt, then how do they get past the usda government inspections
(c) picking up their feet higher and extending them farther. Also, the pads are mostly made of rubber, providing a great shock absorber to protect their joints. Secondly, the chains. Ladies and Gentlemen, do you feel abused when you wear a bracelet, anklet, or watch? A non irritating grease is put on their ankles to lessen friction on their feet. Now, I am not going to say no one sores. Yes, some do. But most owners and trainers LOVE these horses and treat them better than most other breeds.
I have owned and shown Tennessee Walking Horses for years now. I love my horses like they are family and each one I own wears the pads and chains. They are happy as can be. Given treats and love an attention. For those of you who think the pads and chains are cruel, I shall go through item by item about WHY they are used. Firstly, the pad. The pad on their foot is no different than if you put shoes on a dog. The added weight automatically encourages them to overcompensate (c)
this is so disgusting. But the sad thing is that not enough people know about this. Before watching this I thought that the running gate and high leg lift of this breed was natural. I had no idea what went on behind it.
-No offence to nice show peoples- but most things like arabians are whipped to get a high head stance like the boots in this, it's not good for the horse, it honestly doesn't care about winning, it wants a life!
to see this hurts me. I have a TWH. i love her dearly, but i do not shoe her, she rides in a light snaffle bit, and has AMAZING gaits. the shoes hurt these horses, those pads can take 21 nails to hold on, and those chains hurt! My old trainer WITNESSED a TWH throw its HOLE hoof wall off due to those shoes! it was put down on the spot. Poeple think this how to make a TWH pretty but it is mean! i ride my girl in dressage and jumping, with ZERO cruel aids! i hope all see this a cruel
@HAMSTER22100 Good for you ;) I hope people will take you as an example and let their TWHs just be horses, the things people do to them make me sick...
Soring is a horrible practice. It would be better to appreciate the naturally beautiful gate of the Tennessee Walker without the outrageously overextended movements seen with the chains, hoof lifts and chemicals.
Look at the hind legs...see how they bend...omfg this is SUCH animal cruelty and that movement cannot be good for the horses in the long term....people HURT these fantastic beings to make them move "pretty"?? I don't even find it pretty......
The soaring is bad! Now lets get real. walkers are great horses. Saddle Breeds saor, Quarter horses use stearoids, but none of that is worse than most of the training methods used every day by the same people who condem soaring. I say stop soaring and if you are going to own a horse (common sense is not enough) know what YOU are doing!
I've actually been to one of these shows and didn't know any of this happened to the horses! This is so sad and I think they should ban the platforms all together!! I will never go to another TWH show if it was like the one I saw!
i dont know whether to like or dislike the video... i find it absolutely disgusting what they do to the poor horses!!! if you cared about them you would never do that! but im pleased this video is here to show people what the truth...
Send them to jail this is awful it makes my heart hurt to think someone would do this to such amazing horse . I Love my TWH and would never do this to him.
TWH are a great breed I was very close to a Grand Champion named Twister I'd hop the fence all the time and keep him company in his 'retirement' field he passed away a few years back from old age he was 24! TWH have such big personalities and have a unique gait without the platforms, chains and lifting their tails. Why can't the judging standards change so the horses can be more themselves and not something people force them to be? This way people won't hurt the horses to win the prize.
As an avid supporter of the Tennessee Walking Horse Industry, I would like to inform you that the content within this clip is all a blatant lie. Is there abuse in our industry? Yes. Is it abuse to the degree that this video would imply? Absolutely not. The horses in the pastures were not even Tennessee Walking Horses. I am not asking to support our industry, but I would like for you to at least be informed of the misinformation in the video. Please do not be fooled about our beautiful animals.
@taymo2011 yes this wasn't even Professional Tennessee walking horse show this was amateur they are a very good breed and are known to be extreamly high stepping on their own. I used to have a TW and he was amazing he would high step around the paddock all day it was the cutest thing.
@taymo2011 I could not get behind any breed industry that allows what is allowed to these poor horses. Even without the "soring" what about the rediculous giant shoes and chains? The horses do not look beautiful in the showring, they look handicapped. A Tennessee walker out on the trail with "natural" movement is lovely. The horrid handicapped way of moving in the ring should be illegal, it is so sad to see.
@asrotties The natural gait is only enhanced by the built up shoes and action devices. The built up shoes and action devices do not in any way hurt the horse. The best show horses have naturally crooked back legs, which allows them to take a longer stride. Get informed, do not rely on the ravings of people who just want to attack anything to do with show horses. Check on the training practices of other breeds of show horses, don't just condemn the Tennessee Walking show horse.
@asrotties You do not know how right you actually are! There are some spectacularly beautiful Tennessee walkers who are natural, but this ^ this is disgusting.
YAL WANT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT SOMETHING GO TO THE CHEYENNE RODEO AND COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM KILLING HORSES AND COWS I HAVE WALKING HORSES AND MY HORSE AINT NEVER HAD NO SORES ON THERE LEGS THATS JUST SOME BULL CRAP.........
i bought my horse from a person who sored her, shes only 10 and she cant trot because they used some serious chemicals that damadged her tendons and its too painfull for her to even walk
I own a TWH & would NEVER dream of hurting my poor horse in this way for a stupid ribbon or trophy!!! She's a memeber of my family & has flat shoes like other regular horses because since she is NATURALLY gaited, why would I need her to do these extreme gaits? She is such a sweet animal that the thought of someone doing this to HER makes me want to cry!!! She has been such a faithful friend to me her whole life. I'd hurt anyone trying to hurt her in this way! I love her so much! So sad to see..
If not noticed to these idots riding these horses! Horses enjoy there jobs when there ears are forward an there mouths are shut, an there heads arent bobbing! An look at this video!
These trainers make me sick. I have never seen a horse look more unnatural at what should be a natural gait to the breed. I am a Saddlebred person and I have NEVER seen anything going on like this at all in my barn or other Saddlebred barns. I know a few flat shod Walkers that are just absolutely beautiful in the show ring without ever having a harmful chemical or chain put around their pasterns. Why can't these trainers/ spectators see that this is beyond cruel?
these poor horses....i can't believe these people would do this to a horse...I'm getting a new Tennessee Walker soon and i will never do this to my Koda!!! These people should be ashamed of what they've done. If I could i'd go to all those people and tell them off!! thumbs up if you agree!!
This is what the Americans have done the the UK showing world-changed it for the worse.Reduce the amount of money you can get for winning to what we get in the UK-I've not seen more that £250 to a native pony that went supreme champion at Olympia Horse Show!In the UK the only money is in producing the horses for other people and selling them on.There is little or no drugging and lots of drugs testing at larger shows-those drugging are disqualified and may be banned from the show/breed society
I have a twh an he is the best. I love him an he loves me we do so much together. Twh don't need this treatment at all they are born with a gait that looks much better then this crap not all twh get this treatment most go natural unless they get the wrong owners that just want to make something out of them. These are great horses very loving an try to please there owners no matter what they have to do.
What I want to know is why nobody ever complains about saddle seat horses and their clown shoes, or western pleasure horses who stand with their heads tied up in the stalls so they'll peanut roll in the ring, or the cripple canter, or rolkur in dressage. Not all padded horses are sored and not all sored horses are padded.
It looks so unnatural. Horse's aren't mean to pick their feet up that high. TWHs are FANTASTIC movers WITHOUT this method. Go check out some barefoot walkers on youtube. Looks so nice and normal. This is terrible...
@NaturalJumper1032 I agree so much! There are plenty of Youtube videos which show the natural gait and it is beautiful. The horses look healthier, too.
To begin not all padded walking horses use chains. There are special classes called Specialty Action classes that allow chains others do not. I now just own my first padded horse and he is not being sored, matter of fact he doesn't work well with chains. And the workouts are short and sweet 20 minutes tops. The pads do no harm to the horse. Some have to have them. The padded horse I have doesn't know how to act without them, he is a better horse with the pads than without them. Some just need them
please dont think that all showmen use this. ive been showing for years and i never used this i won the world grand championship and never neglected my horses
They don't mention the heavy weights chained to their front feet. They do that for ALL Tennessee Walking horses. Just sick. They're lathered in sweat for a reason.
What`s up with that gate anyways, why do you want that disgusting and rediculouse motion is their any point to it other than winning, it can`t be a smother ride or easyer to sit.
Just to make one thing clear, this is about the specific practice of soring. Not Tennessee Walking Horses or their owners in general. It's about one very specific type of abuse. I don't know enough about pads or chains to make a judgment there, but this is about SORING and it is abuse, plain and simple.
The rest of the discussion re: Tennessee Walking Horses belongs elsewhere.
im 14 and my 2 year old was on pads because she needed them to show since her walk was messed up. the pads help them time up, THEY HELP THE HORSES TO PERFORM PROPERLY. she is 3 now and on lite shods since i show alot. i do use chains on her before shows to help her overstride and so i get a bigger overstride. but the thing is i bored at a walking horse farm with about 100 show horses (mostly studs) most of these horse horses have had on at least plantation shoes but they love to work and win.
I will agree that soreing has happened but think about these horses are bred to move like that. Yes they do enhance their ability by putting on larger shoes but no matter what they could possibly do to these horses unless they have the natural ability to move like that it wont matter how much pain they put the horses in.
@TwHforever1 Sorry but you are VERY wrong, these shoes are very painful for them. I actually have a Walker, and I have personally seen the weighted ones. It is very painful. Chemicals & chains them to there feet. Same as a human learning to walk w/ a high heel 6 in tall on 1 foot and sandals on the other, you having NO control of how to get them off. Walkers have AMAZING gaits leave them the way they are, beautiful being Natural & I think many agree, get your facts right before you speak Thanks.
okay, first of all.. have you actually been around a TWH? because they have a very natural gait.. you can put a set of heavy shoes on any horse & they would walk this way.. the training of a walking horse is so different NOW tha it was in like early 70's. these horses live verygood lives! believe me, and ''horrible things strapped to their feet'' it is PLASTIC! it weighs around 7 pounds on a 1000 pound animal ! thats like us wearing a set of 2 pound weights compared to that! give me a break.
Oh my God... The canter... Oh my God, I'm gonna throw up. That's so horrible... I've never in my life seen such awful, cruel things strapped to a horse's foot.
This gait is not natural, and in my opinion, extremely unattractive. A horse should be judged and win by what it can do with training, and what ability it has naturally. Not by trainers taking the easy way out and soring, chaining, or padding. If a horse can naturally pick it's feet up that high, fine. If you can train it into a horse without pain to the horse, fine, but horse should not be harmed or put in discomfort because an owner is selfish enough to put winning above the horse's wellbeing.
the horses walk this way naturally they are gaited horses just like saddle breds and missouri fox trotters i work at a horse barn and we have tennessee walkers they have never been trained and they walk this way the blocks just add to it i am not saying it is right they put the blocks on i think it looks better naturally but the walk is all ready instilled in them and i think they are beautiful
Everyone that supports padding, soring, chains, or anything brought to attention by this video and the comments can say what they want. The fact of life is that these horses in no way enjoy having stacks of padding on their feet, pounds of chains attached to their feet, or acid wrapped to their ankles. It's cruelty to ignore anything that causes an animal or human to be uncomfortable, or not content. That means that stacks of padding is too counted as abuse.
Pads and ankle bracelets are not the enemy. Soring is the enemy. That's why we check our horses going into the ring AND coming out of the ring. Anyone caught cheating faces stiff penalties up to and including lifetime bans from showing. The pads and ankle bracelets alone simply exaggerate the natural gait. You may not care for the extremely stylized look of it, not everyone does, but don't delude yourself that pads and action devices harm the horse. Numerous studies have proven they do not.
There is no reason EVER to pad and chain a horse, let alone sore it. This crap doesn't 'enhance' anything, only exaggerates beyond ridiculous what began as a beautiful, natural gait. If they really wanted to protect the TWH, the Association would ban padding and chains, but don't hold your breath. Don't fool yourselves - every breed suffers from abuse, it only seems so brazen and blatant in the TWH.
This is why i dont like this discipline. its very barbaric and unnatural. and yes i do realize that not all owners do this but because the effects are so evident it is hard not to stereotype the business. and just an fyi pads are not good. the constrict blood flow to the frog and inhibit the horses natural cushion action. but of course they wouldnt need the pads if their horses werent stepping like that :/
OH MY GOD! I was always wondering how they got those horses to do that! They don't care about the horses they just want money they get money and do it to the horses then they do it again! Such an UN-NATURAL GAIT! Those people in the audiance like it but they don't know how they are getting the horses to do that! We are horse people we know! THEY DON'T! I want to kil those trainers for doing that just so HORRIBLE! I was crying through the whole thing! We have to stop this horrible thing! DISLIKE!
@MyPaintLovesJumping the horses walk this way naturally they are gaited horses just like saddle breds and missouri fox trotters i work at a horse barn and we have tennessee walkers they have never been trained and they walk this way the blocks just add to it i am not saying it is right they put the blocks on i think it looks better naturally but the walk is all ready instilled in them and i think they are beautiful
OH MY GOD! This is HORRIBLE! I was always wondering how the got those horses to do that and now I know! It is just horrible! I almost (really want to!) want to murder those trainers! I stareted crying when I saw that. They shouldn't be aloud to do that! To UN-NATURAL! It's really painful to the horse! They don't care about the horses they just want money to go buy more Tennessee Walking Horses and do the same thing to them! They will do it over and over again! They should be put in jail! DISLIKE
I saw this video and thought to myself,"Goodness they sure put all of the bad parts of the TWH trainers on here." I own 2 TWH. One had been padded for a part of his life and is turning 16 years old later this year, yes he had chains on him and occasionally he gets them on him to help him since he is STILL being shown! The pads are to enhance the gait. And you wrap legs for many reasons, sometimes you have to wrap their legs with plastic wrap to get swelling down from a non show related injury.
In this video, they are NOT saying the padding is the abuse their talking about the soring problem..PADS ARE NOT BAD.. they create a type of cusion.. so can we all just shut up about it being abuse.. yeah soring is abuse, but putting pads on a horses hoof is not bad.. get over yourself and stop saying all TWH owners sore their horses.. THIS VIDEO IS ALL ABOUT SORING ! Thats it.
you can help these horses by going under the federal register horse protection act and submit a comment in favor of ammending the horse protection act. Please comment by June 13th, we need all the support we can get.
This is B.S. I own three absolutely fine Show Horses. Neither one of them is sore, or unhappy. You guys don't understand that some people love and enjoy their Walking horses. You think this is cruel? Shoot. Why don't you just look around America at the starving children and people.
My college in KY hosts 2 TNWH shows every year. People ALWAYS ask if the feds are there and most times we say no. In other words, the inspectors aren't as thorough as they should be, and we have record crowds and horses so lame after their class, they can't even walk. This spring though, the feds were at our show and not only did we have the smallest crowd ever- we had maybe 3 Walking horses the whole weekend that came and showed. But we had a few who came then turned around.
this is terrible! I am researching this for my essay paper, and I just about threw up watching this. this is terrible. not only do these horses look terrible lame, they look like all of there dignity is taken away. what would you have to do to a horse to get it to move with feet that sore!
My grandfather has trained TWH all his life, and i showed them till i joinded the marines, Yea some owners do do this, but not all. The people that do this are the backwoods no talent wanna be's who cant get any reaction from their horses.
TWH horses get the best, Alphalpa hay, full oat feed, fresh cherry bedding.
@Baffelitrasan because they are a bunch of dumb nuts, they are cruel and heartless. what makes it worse is some inspecters let sored horses go on when its clear that the horse is in pain, i just don tknow why they would ruin such a good hores, plus the way it makes there head move and there walk go looks ugly and awful
You can't call this the cruelty behind Tennessee walkers, that is just a couple of extreme cases of lazy owners... most people that do this sport, work very hard and would look down on such lazy cruelty... why do you think they'd be disqualified if they found out an owner was doing that? its unfair to the rest of the people that have worked extremely hard, and its horrible to do to a horse...
@Cheyenne17124 All I can say is you are 100% wrong, plain and simple. I've worked with the HSUS and know the people, including Keith Dane, and for you to suggest that they don't "care all that much about animals" is just ignorant and offensive. You have every right to disagree with their actions, but don't question their motives.
@RackOn344 Oh my goodness, this is absolutely disgusting, it makes me totally ashamed to be a human being. Why on earth would someone be so cruel to such a beautiful animal just so that they can win a competition. Shame! shame! shame! on you. I prey that somehow this practice will be stopped and the people that do it punished severly.
The real abuser here is the Humane Society of the United States by taking your money under false pretenses and paying to have some of these video's altered or just out and out lie about what they are filming.
@RackOn344 You could NOT have said it any better. Some of these people comments are so frustrating. I have my own Tennessee walking horse and without him I wouldn't be able to go out on my 100+ mile rides. Gaited horses are not all used like this! If you really want to see a REAL Tennessee walker then watch what they can naturally do. That is what makes them truly an amazing all around breed. Not this crap.
You hideous creature. May the worst possible fate befall you for this digusting lie!!!! You don't know a thing about walking horses. I cannot imagine a fate horrible enough for you for this bull!!!
ALL HORSE SLAVERY IS WRONG AND CRUEL!!! HORSES AND/OR ANY ANIMAL DO NOT BELONG TO HUMANS!!! THEY, LIKE HUMANS DESERVE TO LIVE FREE AND IN PEACE THEIR LIVES THAT BELONG ONLY TO THEM!!!
HORSE ARE INTELLIGENT, NOBLE AND SENSITIVE, ANY HUMAN 'BREAKING A HORSE TO RIDE IT OR USE ITS LIFE IN ANY WAY; IS EGOISTIC, BARBARIC AND CRUEL!! ANIMALS DO NOT BELONG TO HUMANS, JUST AS BLACK OR JEWISH NEVER BELONGED TO THEIR 'OWNERS'.
@mitziocean would you rather the horses live in the wild and die of disease and over population as they most certainly would here just like deer do ever so often. and i guess you have never owned a dog or cat or fish or bird all of these apply you can't have them all wild. most horses love thier owner and obey because they are loved and treated well. at least being domestic they most always have food and always have shelter and most of the time always has someone who cares about them.
@Brittanyc075 While I generally agree with you about @mitziocean 's comment (ALL CAPS + referring to pet ownership as "slavery"=crazy person), I hope you're not suggesting that it's an either/or scenario and that this kind of abuse is justified because life in the wild is no picnic. The only reason you should own an animal is out of love, and I don't think it's possible to love an animal and inflict this kind of pain and abuse. I think you'd agree with that, but I just wanted to clarify.
ALL HORSE SLAVERY IS WRONG AND CRUEL!!! HORSES AND/OR ANY ANIMAL DO NOT BELONG TO HUMANS!!! THEY LIKE HUMANS DESERVE TO LIVE FREE AND IN PEACE THEIR LIVES THAT BELONG ONLY TO THEM!!!
HORSE ARE INTELLIGENT, NOBLE AND SENSITIVE, ANY HUMAN 'BREAKING A HORSE TO RIDE IT OR USE ITS LIFE IN ANY WAY IS EGOISTIC, BARBARIC AND CRUEL!! ANIMALS DO NOT BELONG TO HUMANS, JUST AS BLACK OR JEWISH NEVER BELONGED TO THEIR 'OWNERS.
I have all natural Tennessee Walking horses and this video is just an outright bunch of Bullshit that makes it appear as if All Tennessee Walking horses are done this way! The woman speaking in this video makes it sound as if All Walkers are done this way, when it's just not even so! Truth of the matter is there are maybe about 1% treated cruel like they're trying to portray All are! No different then what goes on with any other breed I'd bet! Same goes for humans that abuse their kids/spouses!
I don't understand why they would even WANT their horses to trot/canter like that. They look ridiculous! Their natural gait is interesting enough, but I guess some people just have to "win" even if they're hurting their horse and looking ridiculous in the process. Horses are amazing, beautiful, graceful creatures. These horses aren't graceful at all, they're awkward.
sadly this is true. i will debunk a video if its full of agenda crap but yes. sadly people do this to their animals. along with shooting ginger up the butt to carry the tail higher. its ridiculous this goes on in the show ring. the judges that award the points to people that do this should know better. they do nothing to help the situation. and its not just TWH..QH in the pleasure show ring suffer as well.
As one who has seen.......training methods.....used on these horses, its not a pretty sight. These horses suffer abuse daily, never get turned out, by the time they are 7-8 years old thier hocks are shot IF they last that long not to mention the damage done to the front legs. Beautiful breed ruined by a bunch of douche bags all about the money and snaz uncaring of the animals they destroy.
omfg why cant they just let them be normal yea you can teach them there gates but shit what those people where doing is not normal the horse didnt look comfortable neither did the rider if you are going to have a gated horse let them do what they are bred to do dont make them uncomfortable while they are doing it.....
@RackOn344 Thats right... They really need to stop judging our industry..None of these people know what they are talking about. I've been to the Celebration all 16 years of my life and have seen very few mistreated horses. and of those very few, they were all caught and punished. this video makes me sick, i love my tennessee walking horses and people really need to watch what they say. Walk On!!!
RackOn, "There are worse things out there." Yes, you are one of them for your attitude towards horses. From what is done to the tails, to soring, elevated shoes, and that extreme curb bit. Totally unnatural to horses... and disgusting, cruel, against the law - and NO WAY to treat a horse. You are in denial, and are a cruel person. Would YOU like to be treated this way??? RACK OFF.
People really make me sick. 0:43 is beautiful, graceful and all a horse should be. But 0:48 and on is just shameful. I can honestly say we don't deserve the likes of animals.

Thanks again USA for messing up another breed!

Wow...this looks awful. What's with the stupid looking giant shoes? Why would anyone treat a beatiful animal like this? What's wrong with treating a horse nicely? Treat your horse with love and respect and he will not only look better but preform better too. But i guess it's more fun to treat it like crap.

CRUEL.

LazyHaleyJRabbitry 1 month ago
@LazyHaleyJRabbitry

Let their head bop and if their not born with it, don't force it!!!!
buffshakey 2 months ago
Simple way to stop this over-exaggerated movement, so that only natural remains, ban the heavy pad shoes, ban the chains (even if they cause no harm they look unnatural) ban any form of drug in the horses system, so as well as checking for soring, any drug would carry an automatic ban. Horse found with drug = that horse being unable to be bred from. 3xhorses in violation of rules = stud/showman from being able to show again....that would shut the buisness down. Keep it natural and true
elijahasgal 3 months ago
half the stuff they say isnt true. yeah cahins may cause wounds. if you dont take care of the horse....chains dont hurt the horses at all. it is like wearing a braclet.... in the video she said " horses riv wearing metal chains around each ankle". to a horse a chain is about as heavy as a braclett is to humans. they use cahins and pads on TWH. and horses will step high to try to throw them off. if these horses are all soooo sore and hurt, then how do they get past the usda government inspections

But most owners and trainers LOVE these horses and treat them better than most other breeds.
twhorsegurl0912 3 months ago
I have owned and shown Tennessee Walking Horses for years now. I love my horses like they are family and each one I own wears the pads and chains. They are happy as can be. Given treats and love an attention. For those of you who think the pads and chains are cruel, I shall go through item by item about WHY they are used. Firstly, the pad. The pad on their foot is no different than if you put shoes on a dog. The added weight automatically encourages them to overcompensate (c)

777cowgirl 4 months ago
can we do that to the owners?

As an avid supporter of the Tennessee Walking Horse Industry, I would like to inform you that the content within this clip is all a blatant lie. Is there abuse in our industry? Yes. Is it abuse to the degree that this video would imply? Absolutely not. The horses in the pastures were not even Tennessee Walking Horses. I am not asking to support our industry, but I would like for you to at least be informed of the misinformation in the video. Please do not be fooled about our beautiful animals.
taymo2011 4 months ago
@taymo2011 yes this wasn't even Professional Tennessee walking horse show this was amateur they are a very good breed and are known to be extreamly high stepping on their own. I used to have a TW and he was amazing he would high step around the paddock all day it was the cutest thing.
passsword95 4 months ago
@taymo2011 I could not get behind any breed industry that allows what is allowed to these poor horses. Even without the "soring" what about the rediculous giant shoes and chains? The horses do not look beautiful in the showring, they look handicapped. A Tennessee walker out on the trail with "natural" movement is lovely. The horrid handicapped way of moving in the ring should be illegal, it is so sad to see.
asrotties 4 months ago 31
@asrotties The natural gait is only enhanced by the built up shoes and action devices. The built up shoes and action devices do not in any way hurt the horse. The best show horses have naturally crooked back legs, which allows them to take a longer stride. Get informed, do not rely on the ravings of people who just want to attack anything to do with show horses. Check on the training practices of other breeds of show horses, don't just condemn the Tennessee Walking show horse.

Just to make one thing clear, this is about the specific practice of soring. Not Tennessee Walking Horses or their owners in general. It's about one very specific type of abuse. I don't know enough about pads or chains to make a judgment there, but this is about SORING and it is abuse, plain and simple.
The rest of the discussion re: Tennessee Walking Horses belongs elsewhere.

im 14 and my 2 year old was on pads because she needed them to show since her walk was messed up. the pads help them time up, THEY HELP THE HORSES TO PERFORM PROPERLY. she is 3 now and on lite shods since i show alot. i do use chains on her before shows to help her overstride and so i get a bigger overstride. but the thing is i bored at a walking horse farm with about 100 show horses (mostly studs) most of these horse horses have had on at least plantation shoes but they love to work and win.
nikkigmh 6 months ago

TheAnimallover434 6 months ago
okay, first of all.. have you actually been around a TWH? because they have a very natural gait.. you can put a set of heavy shoes on any horse & they would walk this way.. the training of a walking horse is so different NOW tha it was in like early 70's. these horses live verygood lives! believe me, and ''horrible things strapped to their feet'' it is PLASTIC! it weighs around 7 pounds on a 1000 pound animal ! thats like us wearing a set of 2 pound weights compared to that! give me a break.

The wedges on their feet are just as bad as the soaring... The whole thing is absolutely unnatural and painful.
JadedSketches 7 months ago
This gait is not natural, and in my opinion, extremely unattractive. A horse should be judged and win by what it can do with training, and what ability it has naturally. Not by trainers taking the easy way out and soring, chaining, or padding. If a horse can naturally pick it's feet up that high, fine. If you can train it into a horse without pain to the horse, fine, but horse should not be harmed or put in discomfort because an owner is selfish enough to put winning above the horse's wellbeing.
LyndseyHasTheRainbow 7 months ago

Brittanyc075 6 months ago
Everyone that supports padding, soring, chains, or anything brought to attention by this video and the comments can say what they want. The fact of life is that these horses in no way enjoy having stacks of padding on their feet, pounds of chains attached to their feet, or acid wrapped to their ankles. It's cruelty to ignore anything that causes an animal or human to be uncomfortable, or not content. That means that stacks of padding is too counted as abuse.
LyndseyHasTheRainbow 7 months ago
Pads and ankle bracelets are not the enemy. Soring is the enemy. That's why we check our horses going into the ring AND coming out of the ring. Anyone caught cheating faces stiff penalties up to and including lifetime bans from showing. The pads and ankle bracelets alone simply exaggerate the natural gait. You may not care for the extremely stylized look of it, not everyone does, but don't delude yourself that pads and action devices harm the horse. Numerous studies have proven they do not.
Equineify 7 months ago
There is no reason EVER to pad and chain a horse, let alone sore it. This crap doesn't 'enhance' anything, only exaggerates beyond ridiculous what began as a beautiful, natural gait. If they really wanted to protect the TWH, the Association would ban padding and chains, but don't hold your breath. Don't fool yourselves - every breed suffers from abuse, it only seems so brazen and blatant in the TWH.
Taliah1138 7 months ago
This is why i dont like this discipline. its very barbaric and unnatural. and yes i do realize that not all owners do this but because the effects are so evident it is hard not to stereotype the business. and just an fyi pads are not good. the constrict blood flow to the frog and inhibit the horses natural cushion action. but of course they wouldnt need the pads if their horses werent stepping like that :/

And you wrap legs for many reasons, sometimes you have to wrap their legs with plastic wrap to get swelling down from a non show related injury.
mahubbard2013 7 months ago 2

Are they still allowed to put those stupid big shoes on them? And don't they break their tails too so they stand up like that?
Duv12 8 months ago
@Duv12 The tails aren't broken, ACTUALLY look up the facts

Thsi is horrible!!!! I would never do this to my tennessee walker!!!! Those people should be ashamed!!
kodababy5075 8 months ago
this is terrible! I am researching this for my essay paper, and I just about threw up watching this. this is terrible. not only do these horses look terrible lame, they look like all of there dignity is taken away. what would you have to do to a horse to get it to move with feet that sore!
Amigo14100 8 months ago
@Amigo14100
My grandfather has trained TWH all his life, and i showed them till i joinded the marines, Yea some owners do do this, but not all. The people that do this are the backwoods no talent wanna be's who cant get any reaction from their horses.
TWH horses get the best, Alphalpa hay, full oat feed, fresh cherry bedding.
xPFCCHARLESx 7 months ago

MyJumper21 8 months ago 2
@MyJumper21 It's the HSUS. They don't really care all that much about animals in general.
Cheyenne17124 8 months ago
@Cheyenne17124 All I can say is you are 100% wrong, plain and simple. I've worked with the HSUS and know the people, including Keith Dane, and for you to suggest that they don't "care all that much about animals" is just ignorant and offensive. You have every right to disagree with their actions, but don't question their motives.
leaveapennyvideos 6 months ago
@RackOn344 Oh my goodness, this is absolutely disgusting, it makes me totally ashamed to be a human being. Why on earth would someone be so cruel to such a beautiful animal just so that they can win a competition. Shame! shame! shame! on you. I prey that somehow this practice will be stopped and the people that do it punished severly.
robyn65able 8 months ago
The real abuser here is the Humane Society of the United States by taking your money under false pretenses and paying to have some of these video's altered or just out and out lie about what they are filming.
rwjacksr 8 months ago 2

ANIMALS DO NOT BELONG TO HUMANS, JUST AS BLACK OR JEWISH NEVER BELONGED TO THEIR 'OWNERS'.
mitziocean 8 months ago
@mitziocean would you rather the horses live in the wild and die of disease and over population as they most certainly would here just like deer do ever so often. and i guess you have never owned a dog or cat or fish or bird all of these apply you can't have them all wild. most horses love thier owner and obey because they are loved and treated well. at least being domestic they most always have food and always have shelter and most of the time always has someone who cares about them.
Brittanyc075 6 months ago
@Brittanyc075 While I generally agree with you about @mitziocean 's comment (ALL CAPS + referring to pet ownership as "slavery"=crazy person), I hope you're not suggesting that it's an either/or scenario and that this kind of abuse is justified because life in the wild is no picnic. The only reason you should own an animal is out of love, and I don't think it's possible to love an animal and inflict this kind of pain and abuse. I think you'd agree with that, but I just wanted to clarify.

These horses aren't graceful at all, they're awkward.

mipsbips 9 months ago
sadly this is true. i will debunk a video if its full of agenda crap but yes. sadly people do this to their animals. along with shooting ginger up the butt to carry the tail higher. its ridiculous this goes on in the show ring. the judges that award the points to people that do this should know better. they do nothing to help the situation. and its not just TWH..QH in the pleasure show ring suffer as well.

Pearlyblue10 9 months ago
omfg why cant they just let them be normal yea you can teach them there gates but shit what those people where doing is not normal the horse didnt look comfortable neither did the rider if you are going to have a gated horse let them do what they are bred to do dont make them uncomfortable while they are doing it.....
barboro1 9 months ago
@RackOn344 Thats right... They really need to stop judging our industry..None of these people know what they are talking about. I've been to the Celebration all 16 years of my life and have seen very few mistreated horses. and of those very few, they were all caught and punished. this video makes me sick, i love my tennessee walking horses and people really need to watch what they say. Walk On!!!
DaddysGirl3352 9 months ago
So cruel.. this is not horsemanship...a horse should be free to move the way they were born to move....!
jessyaust 9 months ago
RackOn, "There are worse things out there." Yes, you are one of them for your attitude towards horses. From what is done to the tails, to soring, elevated shoes, and that extreme curb bit. Totally unnatural to horses... and disgusting, cruel, against the law - and NO WAY to treat a horse. You are in denial, and are a cruel person. Would YOU like to be treated this way??? RACK OFF.
