  • is this like a floppy disk drive or is there a different way of capturing memory in to the vhs tape

  • Wait ... USB drive in a VHS = Tape Drive?

  • where the fuck did you find a VHS tape

    ??

  • wow, i can't wait to do this. (y)

  • Why Can't I like this more than once... 100x like.!

  • lmao thats brillant.

  • fantastic...

  • That is so cool especially the transfer part where it spins.

  • i got what i wanted.....

    :-)

  • "my effort to keep at least one VHS tape out of the landfill" - WELL THEY WOULDN'T NEED TO GO TO THE LANDFILL IF YOU WATCHED THEM!!!

  • ... But this isn't 2009.. o.o

  • That is awesome!

  • lol :D

  • go ahead and thumb me down but this is useless other than adding more trash and taking space for something more useful. Say a router? or an external HDD. Really misleading tittle. I appreciate your effort but this is just not the way.

  • misleading title...

  • not really, I got it when I clicked on it

  • misleading username. YOU'RE NOT A GENERAL, but you might be a Chad...

    :D

  • man.. good vid, but i thought from the title, you somehow managed to make use of a video tape reel for data

  • DOPE!

you all are missing the point.....seriously

  • LOVE IT! Nice novelty.

  • Yeah id really like my mini usb key to barely fit in my laptop case so I can see a few lights and movements, its bigger than my external harddrive ffs, waste of desk space perhaps?

  • whats the point

  • sick :D

  • cool

  • nice :p novel idea!

  • Ok so you kept the VHS tape out of the landfill but look how much more plastic and resources you used to make a completely useless device. Counter productive if you ask me.

  • douche

  • Its a simple experiment for kids or techies to try out. U people with the neg or hateful comments really show your brain power when U make comments such as many shown here. The guy is showing young people something they can try out, nothing more R less, chill would ya! Good work dude, thanks

Any of U every try to make one, lets see ya do that, then comment! Yeah that's what I thought!

  • do nothing machine

  • Haha.... good for nothing unless you want the USB to be bigger and heavier and to waste more energy with the LED and motors. By the way, the VHS Tape doesn't have Tape in it. But 4* for the..... retro-concept.

  • very cool. thanks for posting. I subbed. :)

  • lol me too

  • Okay, now, use the motor as a generator, put it in a VCR and hit fast forward. Record the fire that ensues.

  • LOL!

  • Cute, but I was hoping for a method to store gigabytes upon gigabytes of data on the actual VHS tapes for cheap.

Still a nice conversation piece though.

  • Same here.

  • cool i have the three screens too i love it!

  • Awesome little project, i'm not smart enough to do that kind of shit.

  • Nice job - the lights off demo at the end is pretty sweet.

  • It would be really interesting if the spool of tape was still there and depending on your total storage it will fill up on either side.

  • so cool

  • Kinda fun project, but with some more of these, you're looking at quite a bit of power consumption. I was actually hoping you would have used a VHS recorder as a storage device, like a kind of tape streaming device. That would definately have kept something out of a landfill. A cassette like this can be recycled pretty well.
