  • What a terrible demo, how to make a fiarly expensive synth sound crap!

  • Comment removed

  • whoever that is doing the demo is a cutie :)

  • download the presets from the manufacturers website.

  • I like the choice of demo fine - maybe you should look at :

/watch?v=NXr83s0imPY ( paste to your address bar ) for the 08 instead.

  • Hm, if you think about what you're getting for the price, with a polyphonic analog that sounds good, complaining about the knobs kinda misses the point for me ..;)

  • Dito, I'm giving away my age a bit, but I remember in 1983, when MIDI first came out. My first synth was a Roland Juno-60 cost $1,700...even back then.

  • reckon one of the big firms might try a new analog after the p8 being a big hit anyway. got one and lovin' it.

  • horses for courses though - I found the build quality on the andromeda actually worse. sounds great, so..

  • I tested one at a music store...I was shocked by the "sissing" noise from the headphone output; it has great sounds but it feels very cheap with the plastic sheet and the tiny buttons; I wish Yamaha/Roland would manufacture it; still a lovely synth though.

  • Eh? Woah. You can actually change the tempo of the arpeggiator? And it has portamento and lfo's too? Weee... that's really exclusive indeed :P

  • Softs have their place, but analog circuits always provide something different.

  • don't agree at all, sounds limp and sterile compared to this I'd say.

  • Nah not really ... the Pro53 sounds quite digital-uninteresting in my opinion.

  • hehehe

    poor kid

  • Hey Krissnovak, at least check your spelling when you type stupid things about other people. It makes you look very foolish, like a 4th grader, hint hint.

  • can you control each seperate voice on their own midi channels? like how virus/nord, others have on their midi stuff. thanks

  • That "hotness" and colour in the sound that people describe is def . there - probably 'hotter' sounding than any previous Dave Smith synth.

  • also, the sos review compared it with the P600 in terms of *appearance and layout* rather than sound specifically. No question it's more versatile.

  • I've had a rev 3 proph5 , and I'm another of the many who've owned one who rate the P8 too ( check all the online reviews). It's also not supposed to be a replica of the P5 ; it's a different synth. It does way more than the p600 in terms of range. If you want a p5, get a P5 ..

  • sounds very much analog.

  • Agreed! Plus, it's even better than the Prophet 5 or 10, for that matter! The Evolver, on the other hand, is an entirely different beast, all together....

Thank God for Dave Smith!! He knows (exactly) just what in the hell he's doing!

  • still sounds to digital

  • What???? It's an analog synth! Haven't you been reading enough about this synth???

  • It's an analog synth, for chrissakes!!! That's why it's so hot right now, and so popular and everyone wants to get their hot little hands on it!!

  • The 2nd part of his username says it all really! :P

  • Lol guys iam not dissing it , but ive been using real analogs and as real as this new one is its not fully voltage controlled and its oscillators whilsist sounding good arnt as nice as the old prophet 5 nor is the filter, a lot of people have never ever used an old one, even the sos review said it sounds closer to the 600 than the prophet 5 and it does, a rolls royce is a car and so is a ford escort mark 1 but one is better than the other.!

  • Ford escort is a better rally car, and much better to drive. RR is better to pose in or relax!

  • Christ, Prophet 08 lined up right below a Voyager. The neo-old schooler dream?

  • anyone know when the rack is coming out ?

  • The rack version is currently for sale - everywhere, as of April 11, 2007....

  • thanks for the answer Pacific.

  • great for bubbling rippling pads, p5/evolver cross in the sound , cool .

  • * way * more versatile n' bassy than the p600, too.

  • comes through well on : /watch?v=Eh1BU8tY4Kc

  • doh ! "lash and bubble" , even. I'm very glad I bought it.

  • The Prophet Series synthesizer, resurrected.

  • Tasty sizzly business. We have a p-8 in in our project studio. .. Hubble, bubble, toil and trouble- .nothing snaps, crackles and pops quite like this synth !

  • why has Cutter's reply to the fart joke from last month gone to the top now ? ...the mysteriesof youtube...

waiting for my my p8 to ship..

  • i bought one recently i like it its the prophet 5 of the 21st century awesome synth

  • I've tried it out miamigroove and there's a *much* wider range of tones there on than on the p600 . The chips have been tweaked, and the sound is often halfway between the evolver and the P5 - much ballsier and more colorful than the p600.

  • also good at cutting leads and bass..my first purchase of 2008 :)

  • please dont hate for me saying this...but...as an owner of an original P5 AND my first synth, a Prophet-600, I must say the P-8 video sounds a lot like my Prophet 600...albeit much better Mod features...ive yet to demo the P-8...anybody know how it sounds vs. a P-600? I really dont want to spend 2K to get a P-600 with awesome mod features & an LCD...!(PS. My real P-5 is noticeably fatter than my P-600)

  • Don't forget about YouTube audio compression. I don't see why it should sound less fatter than 05.

  • It shouldn't sound like a P5. Actually the P600 should be pretty darn close. They both have a pure analog signal path, but both the P600 and P08 have a fully alalog signal path coupled to digitally generated modulators. It's not a remake of the P5, it's a DCO synth with an analog signal path. I'm sure you can get some P5 like sounds, but I'd be willing to bet you can get a lot more P600 sounds from it.

  • it's not a p5 replica, but it definietly sounds stronger than the p600 in our setup , kimble ; a real and lash and bubbe !

  • much appreciated californiabass.

  • on the kss forum someone said the polyphonic AT was going in the next os update coupla' months from now..

  • thanks in advance.

  • heard this at guitar center. warm with lots of presence. anyone know if you can transmit poly aftertouch to this baby ?

  • cool wet fart sound @ 4:55

  • "cool wet fart sound @ 4:55"

If my farts sounded that good I wouldn't need this synth

  • hahaahhaahahahaahahhaahahahahahahahah ich lach mich tot

  • Does it matter? They sound awesome. Actually, I'm planning on getting one of these as a poly synth, I already have a Little Phatty for leads.

    Besides, Korg keyboards suck.

  • yesss

    buy it!

  • Good for you smart guy!

If I had thousand$ at my disposal I would say "Korg sucks" too. If I could afford a Phatty or a Dave Smith I could say a lot of things. As it is I had to scrape my pennies together and sell one of my bass guitars just so I could buy a USED Microkorg on Ebay.

  • In fairness though, the Korg mono/poly is a definite exception imho.

Its one of the best analogue synth ever made, up there with the likes of the P5.

Theres a 3 part demonstration on youtube, if you havent seen it already.

Its one of the best synth demos ive seen, the guys goes through every feature.

  • i love my korg m3!!!

but i love this prophet, too!

  • sounds kinda dark and fuzzy, liking it.

  • doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a rompler or va, but as said below mod routings aren't simple ..+it sounds a lot better than digital synths like the virus !

  • also reckon no cheapy keyboard effects is actually better, with so many people having them built into their mixers and computer setups now...

  • straigtfowards design but the mod routings are very extensive - more than on the p5 actually. Plus the sound is *so * much better than the virus :.)

  • This board is not anything like a Moog or Virus. In fact you would be let down if you had expectations as such. This is a simple design with very limited features compared to the Moog or Virus. It has limited Filters with only a Low Pass and 3 wave sources with no on board FX! However less can be best if your new to programming. I have owned one since the first week of release.

  • The new prophet sounds well wicked! Ave got a dave smith evolver and its great. Hey doktorfuture check out the evolver, thats monophonic and it has the exact same features and much more, cheaper aswell.

  • the evolver's a great synth too Morne , but the general view is that the PO8 has a pretty different sound to the analog end of the evo ( the sound chips have been worked on)

  • Yea just found that out today! i just looked at the basic specs on a shop website and thought "its just an ev with 8 voices" but i read the review of it in a mag and seen that its not. If only if santa would bring me one insted of socks lol

  • Andro...what?!

  • great demo. can this synth be used multitimbral?

  • Check the audio demos and the official review at Keyboardmag. As they say, in it's price range, this could actually be ´"possibly the best-sounding, most fun-to-play analog polysynth in the history of keyboards".

...and the Nords, the Voyagers, and the Viruses used to give me wet dreams...

  • Moog killer?

  • nah, dave was friends with bob.

    lol.

  • I'd buy it if it were monophonic

  • because one voice is better than 8?

    ;)

  • that is a nice filter !

  • Hey man! THank you for this demo!

  • Les tréteaux vintage en bois d'arbre sont top !
