  • Sad to think that Lennon was shot just months later...

Never a hope for a Beatles reunion after that.

  • Typically people throw around statements about artists too loosely because it's the popular thing to do. With Paul, if you consider his diversity as a composer & instrumentalist, he really probably is the greatest composer & musician of all time!

  • Had no idea Wings were still active by the summer of 1980. Thought they had disbanded after Jan. 1980, post-Tokyo.

  • @crapple009 Laurence Juber and drummer Steve Holley left in february 1981 tug of war became a solo album and 27 april 1981 denny laine left and wings disbanded

  • @comedycentral70s Thanks for that info- I guess they were pretty much in a state of limbo throughtout 1980 (no doubt due to McCartney II) and into 1981, which was a shame for this fine line-up.

  • Liked Paul's comment 'can't reheat a soufflé'. The four of them reached their creative/musical peaks at the same time in their 20's. Which is a reason why the Beatles were so great.

Doubtful they would have reached such heights again. I mean what could John, George & Ringo have done to save Paul's 'Spies like Us' ?

  • On Dec 8th John was recording 'Walking on Thin Ice' with Yoko singing. One, maybe two more albums were in the pipeline. Probably with Yoko on them. John was also planning a world tour, Yoko would 'no' doubt share the stage. Fred Seaman also said John was planning a musical 'The Ballard of John & Yoko'.

So unfortunately Yoko would have been constantly in the public eye. Rather like Linda was with Paul.

  • Correction:this ISN'T Kevin Keegan that Paul is talking to here.

Rather, it is Arnie Wilson, who still works as a journalist

covering the celebrity and sport scenes, especially skiing.

  • I'm confused as to which song Paul refers to with his "bright eyes" reference.

The only hit song I'm aware of that used that line was "Total Eclipse Of The Heart"

which wasn't released until three years AFTER this interview.

Perhaps Paul is thinking of the song "Sad Eyes" by Robert John.

  • When Paul quotes the song line "til the fear in me subsides" he is referring to Dan Hill's "Sometimes When We Touch".

  • He looks so cool in those socks and sandals

    2:41

  • With that hair cut he looks just like he did in the '60's :)

  • At the end he says that he wouldn't want Wings to be more famous than the Beatles because he'd never EVER want to be that famous again... I think that indicates that being a Beatle did him more harm than good.

  • He's got a great sense of humor. I don't think it surprises anyone that he's the most successful songwriter of all time! Love it. (:

  • 1.29 he predicts Lennons death, uncanny.

  • That chap who is interviewing Paul looks an awfully lot like the late great entertainer Sammy Davies Jnr they could be twins , it really is a remarkable likeness .

  • lame and uninspired. why don't you look up "paul is dead" on google and then think about this again

  • @MyHairyBreasts why don't you watch this video and join the living. That's the same guy who sang I Want to Hold Your Hand. loser...

  • Charming interview.

  • P A U L T E A M O!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Who the hell is Kevin Keegan?

  • @Zimnyification Keegan's a very famous footballer.

  • In a phone conversation in 1980, Paul told John that he planned to record an album with George Martin in Montserrat the next year, and this album would have different guest artists on individual tracks. John got the hint and told Paul to keep him informed on how the plans were progressing. It wasn't a "yes" or a "no". Years later George Martin said it was "50/50" if John would have joined Paul for a track or two on what turned out to be the Tug Of War album.

  • looks like charlie sheen a bit..if he was younger he would fit the part!!

  • ohmygosh I LOOOOVVVEE Paul and Linda together!! They are so adorable with their precious little family... I always feel really sad when I think about her death. She seemed like an amazing person. Perfect for that shmexy Paul!!!! She was also a beauty, natural, though; didn't try hard (because she didnt have to;) )

And a generation who doesn't know the BEATLES?!!! Wait, that is our generation :'( I'm obsessed with them :D

  • @bassman619 clairvoyance is a skill to be mastered.

  • K: What song do you wish you'd written?

    P: All of them!

    That's modesty for ya.

  • Can all these "Paul Is Dead" conspiracy theorists please get the hell off this page, or even better, get the hell off all the beatles/mccartney videos? If you've listened to any of the beatles music at all or if you just have half of a brain, you'll know that he's not dead.

Paul is dead, 9/11 was an inside job, etc...... these crazy conspiracy theorist lunatics will never go away!

  • @PatrickTX100 : I hear that Paul McCartney planned 9/11!

  • @smautomat He's prolly hiding Bin Laden as well

  • @WorldSpinningBlueJay I was having that same thought. Such a strange question for paul to be asked just a few months before his partner becomes another addition to the list of great talents that went too early.

  • look those haters saying Paul can't sing that is bull he has be through everything musically. understand he has gone through things were some artist have not had any opportunity to go.! so shut the hell he is one of the richest most known and successful man in many country's. and John said he didn't want to do the Beatles all his life he wanted to do different things because that's how they were.! even if all of them reconstructed their relationships they wouldn't have gotten back together bec

  • 3:54 creepy foreshadowing D: Paul didn't know the tragedy that was soon to happen. R.I.P John :(

  • That's Paul McCartney. The real one and only Paul McCartney.

  • He's not dead!!!

  • Totally love his accent XD

  • I think Paul is a bit disingenuous here when he says that John wouldn't want to get back with the band because I have seen interviews on You tube where John had stated he wouldn't be against getting together with the other members of the Beatles. I guess it could also be that John was being disingenuous when he said that he would get together with the other fab 3. Either way The Beatles always seem to be involved in some sort of deceptive practice

  • faul

  • @softsummernights Oh my god. Is there any possible way for someone's brain to think this is NOT Paul? I am astonished at your ignorance. Watch ANY interview of Paul Pre-1966 and compare his voice, mannerisms, movements, etc. You can't find someone JUST like that. Conspiracy buffoon.

  • @itsbridgetlogann thats the problem, don't use your brain, read his aura with your heart. different guy

  • @softsummernights Well, I get the vibe from him in my heart that it is the same guy. So...

  • Comment removed

  • @softsummernights Too bad, I already read your comment before you removed it. And by the way, it doesn't really matter to me.

  • Paul has a copy of the Quarry Men playing a certain song by Buddy Holly and he owns it to this day. There was never another copy of it made and no one really knows how he got it but it's the rarest record in the world.

  • @beuchars Oh my god, can you leave Paul alone? Before you go ranking on him why don't you try living up to everything he did? Maybe you need to turn up your hearing aid because he's an amazing singer and so are all of the Beatles. You act as if you know him personally. "Piggy back" off John...yeah right.

  • for all his fame celebrity and wealth,he is basically just a fucking brilliant musician!!!

  • i love them

  • but in a few interviews john lennon said he wouldn't mind getting back together with the other three. What the heck is going on!!

  • Die hard beatles fan, but the magic just wasn't there after they broke up

  • my god he has a big ego.

  • @smokemonster420 He has a big ego, but in a good sense. There is nothing unhealthy about his ego.

  • AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!! he looks SOO much younger even in his 40s with the beatles hair dew!! dat hair style goes so well for him <3

  • @Paulmaclover1234 He was only 38 at the time of this interview.

  • Guitar is his comfort blanket. Mine too.

  • Sad with the question at about 3:55… when John died not to long after this…

  • Comment removed

  • I think Paul was stoned, which is great. Love it.

  • what his obsession with Kevin keegan?

  • everybody like the beatles at some point in there life, so its a stupid question saying "does it worry you if future genrations dont know who the beatles are" if someone said they dont know who the beatles are they would look at them like there retarded!

  • John's PA Fred Seaman stated all this in his well written and believable book.

It's a fact that Yoko got half of 'Double Fantasy'. Yoko's songs were panned & it was quickly decided she would then record the more mainstream 'Walking on Thin Ice'.

It's probably easy to prove John spent a lot of time in Bermuda without Yoko. Recording enough of his own stuff for 'DF' & 'Milk & Honey'. Yoko would have flown over from NY upon hearing what John was doing.

It's also a fact that Yoko continued touri

  • Yoko was trying to make it as a singer in 1980. She was planning to divorce John before finding out he was recording again in Bermuda. She then demanded half the 'Double Fantasy' album. John recording with the Beatles again would have put her out of the spotlight.

Yoko continued recording and touring after John's death. She eventually gave up due to lack of interest.

Yoko eventually lived with the man she had been having an affair with when John was alive.

  • @ADAM79929 That's interesting to know, but is it confirmed, that they were just living together and almost divorced in 1980? I mean, after death anything can be speculated

  • @ADAM79929

I WISH she had given up,lol.

Unfortunately she CONTINUES to do limited touring and performing,

forever riding on John's coattails long after his tragic death.

  • Daaaayum, he looks smokin hot here. Hoo man. Watching this with the sound off is as good as watching it with it on. I love all his mannerisms. So very Paul-ish. :D

  • In 1980 both John and Paul had agreed to help Ringo with his album. Maybe their paths would have crossed in the studio. Unless Yoko was about !

  • John's Double Fantasy producer Jack Douglas said John often said in 1980 he would like to record with Paul. Yoko may have also stopped this.

  • Paul sent John a good luck telegram when John returned to the studio in 1980. However Yoko didn't let John see it

  • @ADAM79929 - Right before John was killed he

had written a letter to his first son Julian. It was

never sent. When Julian asked Yoko for the letter

she simply said "no". Later, Yoko forced Julian to

BID on it at AUCTION. This is all you need to know

    about Yoko Ono. Loving wife!

  • @thegrinchl7 Yes, he loved John, not Julian. It's a bit harsh I know, but I've this impression that Yoko was just as jealous as John. And when you say all you need to know... It's not like John made Yoko's life easy, either. Imagine how you'd feel with all the hatred Yoko is receiving. No other "beatles wife"had to experience that.

  • The most successful composer and the SEXIEST and the most GORGEOUS man on this planet!!!!!!

  • 'John wouldn't be interested in getting the band back together ', 'I definatly know it's not on', 'certain members of the band like playing together', ' three of us played at Clapton's wedding'.

Sounds like Paul was hinting John was the one who stopping things happening.

  • @ADAM79929 No doubt about that for me. Yoko wouldn't have approved.

  • in the picture of the video that brought me here, i swear that was moe from three stooges

  • Paul doesn't brag about his success and record sales

  • @LCPD9111 - That Paul is clever doesn't mean that Paul is humble. Mind you, I'm not convinced this guy is all THAT "great". I mean, have you heard his "Liverpool Oratorio"? Have you seen his "Welcome to Broad Street"? Oh, you haven't even HEARD of them? Maybe you'll remember this "great" masterpiece: - "Someone's knockin' at my door, someone's ringin' a bell! Someone's knockin' at my door, Someone's ringin' a bell. Do me a favor, open the door, and let him in! Oooo, Yeah"! Ugh!
  • @thegrinchl7 I actually LIKE the "Liverpool Oratorio". Also he played the song "Let 'em In" on his recent tour and people liked it very much.

  • @yesiamize - Ahh! So YOU'RE the one! I read somewhere there was ONE person who like "Liverpool Oratorio". As for Paul's touring, he's a living dinosaur. A piece of the Beatles. He could go up their in his under-wear and just stand there and people would love it! Besides, concerts are about something else. You know, in the same way fishermen aren't looking for fish and how baseball fans don't go to stadiums to watch games. It's about grace and fellowship. It doesn't matter what he sang!
  • @thegrinchl7 Hi, well, maybe many people go to his concerts just because he's a Beatle. But I tell you, they're overwhelmed with the quality of the performance. Simply fantastic.

  • Comment removed

  • @yesiamize - I was dragged to one of his concerts

(free ticket). I had a good time. It was fun to see a

Beatle. Mostly, it was fun to be at a concert! I don't

mean too be negative but frankly, I think he's not much

of a musician anymore. He's more of a business man

with himself as the product. After his ONE-LEGGED

WIFE debacle, Paul hired an high-powered PR firm

out of New York. He is groomed, posed and scripted now.

I actually think if he still has talent. He just doesn't care

    anymore.

  • Comment removed

  • @thegrinchl7 Well, the early Beatles were groomed, posed and scripted by Brian Epstein. He goes a little back to this. Sentimental journey. Though he's still very creative in the recording studio. Do you know his albums from the last decade? Very good stuff. Unfortunately he hardly plays those songs in his concerts.

  • im a huge beatles fan, but my mother is always going on about how perfect paul is! drives me crazy! i can't watch videos without her running into my room!

she's in her 60s! and still turns into a little girl when watching him.

  • @Ladyluck2806

Speaking for myself at 55, Paul has exactly the same effect on me,lol!

And your mother is 100% correct, Paul is indeed PERFECT!

  • he's the cutest old man ever :)

  • @thegrinchl7 then explain to me why Paul is the first musician to earn $1 billion dollars??? I'd like to see John Denver do that. Plus in addition to the Beatles and wings, so I doubt anyone, except the other beatles, can compare to Paul. He is my favorite living beatle.

  • "you can't reheat a souffle as someone once said." dude, i love british sayings ahah. & dang, he looks basically the same as in the 60's. around 15 years later and barely a difference. (:

  • "where is paul mccartney gonna go?" "to bed, i should think!" & hahaha what was that tongue thing he did @ 2:45? "i am pretty respectable." paulie sounds so full of himself bahaha.

  • Well, he would have been like 40 at the time of the interview, so he looks REALLY good. I mean look at him now. He is like 70, yet he looks 20 years younger. Who could dislike The Beatles?

  • @LlamaFan22 Well he was born June 1942, so if this is July of 1980 then he just turned 38.

  • Some r american!! haha PAUL!

  • This is David Naughton not Paul McCartney.

  • Hot!!!

  • Adorrrabbbbleeee. (: Paul, my love, you will be mine. ♥

  • omg! 0_0 look at him! so young and beautiful<3 I LOVE HIM *faints*

  • Very eerie all the death talk around 4:20 considering 1980 was the year John Lennon was shot

  • god, he looks 21 again! he's the greatest, no contest.

  • @xXDizzyMissLizzyXx 'cept he was like... 40

  • Paul WAS, at one time, on track to become the most successful composer of all time.

Not anymore! He started writing terrible things like "Someone's Knockin' At My Door" and the stinky "Welcome To Broadstreet" and the horrible "Liverpool Oratorio". Now John Denver is poised to be the "most successful" composer of all time.

  • @thegrinchl7

guiness world book of records 2009

Paul McCartney the most successful songwriter and composer of all time

  • @LCPD9111 - Did you hear about the statistician who

drowned in a creek that AVERAGED only 2ft of water?

First of all, this is the internet. If you're going to pull

statistics out of your ass, you're going to look rather silly.

Paul McCartney's stats can't possibly be the "most suc-

cessful" unless you're just counting DOLLARS. Adjusted

for 300 years of inflation, Amadeus Mozart would equal

700 Paul McCartney's. (I just made up that last number!).

  • @thegrinchl7

he is the most successful because he's had more number ones with the beatles and solo than any other artist

  • @LCPD9111- Paul's a great composer. While he might be

the greatest LIVING composer of all time, he STILL can't be

the most SUCCESSFUL COMPOSER of all time. Mozart has

been selling music since 1652 and he hasn't STOPPED!

When you adjust for inflation, it would be like Mozart wrote

the equivalent of "Yesterday" and "Penny Lane" every week

for 300 years. There's a better chance of a tornado blowing

through a junkyard and accidently assembling a 747 than for

    McCartney to outsell Mozart!

  • @thegrinchl7

he's the most success ful because he's been selling records more than anyone else and he's wrote the most number one hits. THAT'S WHY HE'S THE MOST SUCCESSFUL SONGWRITER OF ALL TIME

  • @thegrinchl7 What?

  • well, they did reunite in 95 or so for the Anthology Documentary. Right? My guess is if JL had still been around, he would have done that too. They probably would have played One After 909 or something. eh? Guess it's a moot point now though.

  • He has something of Oli Sykes' personality

  • @ZomgNinjah Did you really just compare Sir Paul McCartney to Oli Sykes... :/

    just...no.

  • Paul is quite cool :)

  • I think John was gonna call Paul to get the Beatles back together just before he died

  • @wisesatyr72 read john's playboy interview and tell me if you still think that way...

  • @gili1484 yeah I read it but I also read May Pang's bio and she claims that John was anxious to call Paul and get the group together and Paul always had that hagging thought in his mind

  • @wisesatyr72no no no she's wronge than, i think that paul is the that always wanted to get back together, he was also the one who didn't want to break the group... and john always said how he doesn't look to the past and only to the future and thought that the beatles finished theis work for good...

  • @gili1484 Yeah you're right about Paul, that VH1 movie two of Us has alot of factual incidents that occured between two of them but being any Beatle's fan optimistically you want all the original memebers to get back together and May Pang is the one that John shared his most intimate thoughts with so its hard to argued about what John what really thinks if one does not know him personally..I think Goerge is the one that has the most animosity of those two so we can never know, Right ?

  • Sorry, but time has proven that right now, at least, there is no generation of kids who haven't heard of the Beatles.

  • In the interview with Andy Peebles of the BBC 2 days before his death, John Lennon told the story of how when Paul was visiting with him at the Dakota one time they were watching SNL where they were doing a spoof on him and his whole 'house husband' thing. He said that he and Paul had a good laugh over it and were half joking about going down to 30 Rock to suprise them but that it didn't happen. Maybe a frosty glare from you know who! ;)

  • Oh, God. Talking about celebrities dying before they grow old and talking about John... when in 1980 was this interview?

  • Who the hell is Kevin Keaton???? ;-/

  • You'd think this was a Beatles interview. He seems just he was when he was a Beatle. It's nice.

  • I wonder what it is like to have him as a father...must be very crazy XDDD

  • @OlaNATungee12 yea i would rather have him then john cause john abandoned his son

  • @duncansby96 yup, that's the big thing i don't like about john. but luckily julian and cynthia had uncle paul to cheer them up after lennon left...

  • @OlaNATungee12 even though he moaned about his dad leaving him

  • @duncansby96 well i suppose this really hurt him deeply.. he was even a child! but you're right, to do the same to his own child without noticing must have been horrible!!!

  • I envy guys, they can take a sober look at Paul, which I can't

  • never give a musician a guitar during the interview ))

  • well my generation has beatlemania so di i the songs are timeless

  • LOL when he pretends to shoot himself in the head. Oh, Paulie. :)

  • Yes, I know that music is the most important...

But he is SO SEXY !!!

  • i just learned a new term from paul. " i was just plunkin around"

    4:44

  • I think he may have been trying to revive the mop top look :D

    Gorgeous Paul, gorgeous as always!!!

  • @marniedrew Actually the 'moptop' look was very much in style ca. '80.

  • this is after ir before John murder?

  • @MaalePap Definitely before

  • @Fritha71 I suppose. He seems so calmy talking

pd: sorry for my bad english, I'm from Argentina :D

  • @MaalePap probably not too long before because he speaks about him not wanting to get back together, which is weird when the interviewer brings up growing old and how buddy hully died, when john died in the near future after this

  • @Joshua27birds thanks for the information... where are you from?

  • @MaalePap Canada southern ontario area and no problem

  • @Joshua27birds wow... it's strange to think that you are so above and I so below

  • Does anyone know the Jame from 26 to 58 seconds in? Any big WING fans out there?.Cool.

  • When I first read on Wikipedia that Paul is named in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful composer/songwriter of all time, I thought that first happened recently. I never knew he first got that name in 1980. Wow, I didn't know that. That's amazing!!!

  • he's so humble

  • oh damn! he's REAL young as in 60's..... i love him, honestly

    soooo cute =*

    how handsome he is....

    best smile I've ever seen

    p.s. THE BEATLES FOREVER!!!

  • Such a talented guy and yet so humble, it's great to see

  • d'awww he's still young here :)

  • was this interview after or before Lennons sad death? btw KEEGAN IS CLASS!

  • @beatleschap This was right before John died.

  • awww i really do not want that day to come when a whole generation does not know who the beatles are. and i know it has not come yet. i still love him :)

    Long live the beatles <3

  • He's really adorable. XD

    I really admire him.

  • That man seems baked.

    Love him, though.

  • I love paul too much it's a bit weird.

  • Wow, those songs that quoted liking from that period are fairly horrid. But, of course, I'm a Pauly fan.

  • I <3 paul

  • He looked young then but sadly today, age has caught up with sir Paul's face. But he still rocks at almost 70!

  • @ttt8699

He really doesn't look that bad for his age.

  • He thinks people will forget them in the 80's! I wasn't even born then! I'm 17 and my favourite band of all times is The Beatles!

  • Paul makes jokes but the interviewr is so serious...

  • one thing that always got me with wings is that no matter how you sliced it up it was paul mc cartney that people came to see not the band wings...i cant believe paul really thought wings was a real band...if it was a real band the other members would have been a bigger part of the music....

  • I love Paul's British accent =)

  • Oh wow, this is before the King of the hippies was killed.

  • @JamesTKirkCobain Lennon didn't like hippies at all

  • he looks young

  • Whos Kevin Keaton?

  • @PERINSON Kevin Keegan was an english footballer in the 80s, ex-England manager.. footballers released a lot of songs during the 80s and 90s..

  • @PERINSON Kevin Keagan, a football (soccer) player.

  • it is his eyes and soft spoken way - geminis are always pensive

  • paul always comes across as sad to me?

  • he is just like he was in the 60s in this interview. he looks and talks like he did in the beatles

  • This was early 1980. Interviewers wouldn't be pestering Paul about Beatle reunions for much longer. However, I disagree. I think John would have come around to reunion in time. It may not have happened in the 80s or the 90s. But, if John had lived, the four of them would have reunited in one way or another. Everyone mellows with time.

  • Did you see Paul at 1:29 sec put a gun to head and shoot? Well wasn`t that the year when Lennon got shot? How coincidental!

  • my keyboard had two songs of him, must be some kind of influence
