Could someone call Bill Gates? He should Buy WMG put all the music PD so that youtubevideos aren't in the line of fire and as a side effect he can deliver Windows with the newest Media :)
Wow, this video was made by service men and they can't even authorize that short clip. What a bunch of morons on that company. How much money are they going to lose by allowing a 15 second audio clip be played on a video that commemorates the fact that this is still a free country...
I assume the big can of worms is the fact that the Zumwalts are highly susceptible to air strikes? Or the fact that after the XM8 was proven to be superior to all other contenders it was dropped because Colt threw a shit-fit because it wasn't their design?
One question about Tomcat crews though. I understand Mutha, the squadron competitions, and the fun at strike fighter queens' expense of course, but whats the deal with balling up paper and hurling it at squadron mates (17:15)?
As I understand it, development and implementation of the Super Tomcat program in a timely manner would not only have extended the life of the Tomcat, but would have given the Navy an aircraft that could out-fly any naval interceptor flying today, retained striking capabilities from all the Tomcats, and would have been more cost-effective than the wholesale procurement of the "Super" Hornet.
Chalk up another victory for Navy bean counters and their fudgy calculations I guess.
and they'd still have an unacceptably low availability rate. unfortunately the tomcat airframes are all old, the tooling to build new airframes is no longer... and it has a massive radar profile. the f/a-18 isn't sexy, but its a weapons platform that can actually be deployed reliably.
my dad flew tomcats and when i was little that was all i ever wanted to do but then they had to retire the damn thing and bring in the smaller slower hornets i still love watching the fighter fling videos though and i have at least three tomcat key chains on my keys sometimes i would ask him to give me a ride in the back seat and he would always say that he'd make me puke i would just say "i dare you." the ride never happened though
i mostly agree, but with the hornet, all the s-3ss, a-6s, and ea-6b's are gone (or on their way out). so as a navy student jet pilot, its a pretty sweet deal. in 9 months, i'll select hornets... or hornets. can't complain about fighters no matter what!
yea that's accurate, its called "tailhook," you select that from primary and later select strike (18s and prowlers) or e2/c2s halfway through. it started after i selected, so i'm not on that program.
And your point is?? 10 to 1 odds says you dont have anything to do with the Tomcat Community. What squadron? What rank? What rate? I spent 15 years with 101 as a driver.
whoa, dude relax. its not a big deal. i jus saw my last name at the start. i didn't say I had anything to do with it, but some of my relatives use to be in the navy. i just thought it was cool that the same last name as mine showed up in there.
they have their own tomcats but Iran dosn't know how to work them. They had american specialists maintain their tomcats and when we pulled out of there the specialists supossedly did something to the tomcats makeing them unable to fly.
Sorry - but then the specialists obviously did a bad job - cause they still fly. Obviously there is hardly a minor thing you can do to the F-14 to make it not fly. They should have placed satchel charges. That would have helped... ;)
I heard someone theorize that they flew in the Iraq-Iran war. Not sure as to the validity of the claim. Given their lack of access to spare parts I would have a hard time imagining that their fleet of Tomcasts is still servicable. Well, so long as the US does a good job making sure parts from decommissioned Tomcats stay where they should be.
Wow, what a great video. This is like the best tribute video I've seen! The parts where the pilots were smashin' up the cars and when that disturbed song (down with the sickness)was funny and awesome! Very cool!

I mean really, did we CARE that it was Tom Cruise in the lead? No, we cared about the freakin TOMCATS!
