In 13 of his victories, Kelso carried 130 lbs or more, while conceding an average of 17 lbs to the runner-up. He set or equaled 15 track records and was named Horse of the Year 5 times. I think Kelso had the greatest career of any American horse in the 20th Century. Phar Lap appears to be that kind of horse.

Phar Lap, Sea Biscuit and Secretariat were all great! Apparently when Secretariat won the Belmont in what is still record time he ran each quarter faster than the previous, so got faster as the race went on. Won by 35 lengths or so!

The Aussies wanted him because they thought he might do fairly well with the 'Tramps' they already had. They were right But only after he got out of his 'Diapers' And even after that he still lost to some of those 'Tramps'.

Ingredients include arsenic, strychnine, belladonna, cocaine and caffeine. Notebook with some wear, and first page has been reinserted after page 12.

Tommy Woodcock, his trainer/strapper at the time, admitted on his death bed that he thought Phar Lap died as a result of being given too much of a particular tonic which included arsenic. This original notebook gives unequivocal evidence that arsenic and other 'poisons' were used in the management of race-horses under Telford's care

You Aussies don't know the truth. Tom Woodcock omitted on his death bed he probably gave him a overdose of arsenic. Harry Telford diaries he tells about his potion he gave Phar Lap. You want to blame America for killing him but his trainers did it to him. The other drugs they gave him gave him stamina & was a stumulant to increase his energy. That was given to him right before each race. Don't listen to rumors but facts.

@lilbennyt I disagree. I thought for the longest time that Phar Lap was poisoned, however I believe it was proven that he was not.
If you want to blame anyone for his death, you should look to the Australian Racing Commission. If they hadn't tried to kill him with WEIGHTS, he would never have made that voyage to the US.

@kwmred no, no, no you got it all wrong as well, yes they put weights on him, but they did not intend on killing him, they only did that to slow him down, it was himself that would have killed him just trying to win, they found he ingested a massive dose of arsenic, which was thought that americans were payed to do, becuase not matter how much he was loved they didn't want a horse, from another country, coming in and winning eveything
