  • 15PSI????? really? if i was running 15 psi id be in the 400 range.

  • @matthewchan prolly not....youve watched fast and the furious way 2 much and took way too seriously.

  • 169.2 @ 5100? Is that crank or flywheel? The car has to be stock or near-stock with those numbers.

  • these cars come stock with 175 to the wheels. almost 200 to the crank. this car is stock.

  • @TPena92 no cars are mesured at the wheels. these cars had like 155 flywheel stock.

  • @firechicken76 - The official rating actually depended on the transmission. With the 3 speed auto, they were 145. With the 5 speed manual, they were 175.

Now, if they were 175, wouldn't that be about the same power as the 305s in the Camaros? and significantly more than the V6 camaros at the time?

  • @Slipknotyk06 um tpi 305's had 220 hp and 290 fpt. That is alot more than the 175 flywheel hp that the merkur puts out. bottome line, irocs run a mid 14 from the factory, and the merkur ran a mid 15 at best.

  • @firechicken76 - Let's see, the 305 produced for 85-87 was the LG4. LG4 produced 150 HP and 240 torque.

IROC didn't come with the 305, it came with the 350.

The 350 for the era was the L98. this produces closer to what you claim is the 305's output. 230 HP, 330 tq. This supports the 1/4 claim.

The Merkur puts out 175 horse in a lighter package than the 305 Camaro, which ran high 15s, while the Merkur ran low to mid 15s.

Iroc is a different engine package, so doesn't apply.

  • @Slipknotyk06 irocs came with tpi 305's and tpi 350s, if it had a 5 speed, it was a 305, autos were 350's and 305's. you cant compare the early 305s to the merkurs engines, not really fair, and also not fuel injected even the 305 5pseed tpi cars ran in the 14's. they only had about 20hp less than the 350's due to the restrictive tpi system that was designed for the 305 engine..

  • @firechicken76 - The 305 has always been a motor dogged by weak power numbers from conception to termination. The Merkur is MUCH closer in comparison to the 305 Camaros than it is the 2.8 V6 Camaros.

I've looked up quarter mile times of the Merkur (15.7) and Camaro 305 (15.9)

You have to factor in a SUBSTANTIAL weight difference. The Merkur had a curb weight of 2950, while the Camaro weighed in at 3490.

And, by the way, the Merkur WAS injected (Ford EEC-IV OBD1 system)

  • @Slipknotyk06 dude, the 305 camaro tpi cars ran 14's also. they were only 20 hp less than the tpi 350s. why are you comparing a carb 305 from the earlier 80's to a late 80's merkur? bottom line, they were faster than the merkur, granted the merkur was a better handling car, but thats not what were talking about. go to any online quarter mile calculator, you will see 220hp 3400 > 175hp 2950

  • @firechicken76 - I'm comparing 85-87 Camaro with 85-87 Merkur.

They were BOTH injected. I haven't seen a STOCK 1/4 for the Camaro 305 ANYWHERE near even 14.9, I've only seen 15.9. The 305 DOES NOT put out 220. What about this do you not understand?

The LB9 appears to put out 190 in factory trim. Put that in your quarter mile calculator, and the Merkur comes out on top. In addition it's 2950 versus basically 3500 and NOT 3400.

    Merkur 15.74

    Camaro 16.19 (190 HP) 15.79 (205 hp)

  • @Slipknotyk06 you are not listening to me, your comparing the best merkur they put out, so why not compare it to the best iroc 305 they put out, irocs didnt have the carb motor in them, they had the tpi engine, the 87 tpi with a 5 SPEED had 215hp, compared to the tpi with an auto that only had 190hp. and ive found sources saying the iroc weighed in the 33xx's, so im just averaging it out. ill actually send you the link. fact 215hp and 3400 vs 175 2950 pounds. or 15.4 vs 15.7

  • @Slipknotyk06 Camaro is still better.

  • @Swagman00 the car is on a rear wheel dyno, those are rear wheel numbers. 170 RWHP = almost 200 flywheel. so about 50 more than stock.

  • 3" mandrel bent exaust does wanders, i found mine on ebay

  • Needs a front mount!

  • my bad, nice car, rode in one with turbo with stick, wild lil car, keep it on all fours, late

  • how much torque,hpower?

  • read the description dude 169.2hp at 5100 rpm and 179.1 torque at 3200rpm
