Such a shame! One of rock's all time greatest voices. Saw Boston live in 1987 at the Meadowlands in New Jersey-awesome show. Such great talents have been lost of late-Ronnie James Dio and John Entwistle, too. And here we are, still stuck with Lady Gag-Gag, Bieber, and all the rap/hip-hop a**holes...
I'm still ticked that Brad is gone. I know first hand that xanax and other such narcotics can cause psychotropic episodes in people. The day the music died.
The power of drugs, alcohol, crime, greed, evil, money, lust, etc. etc. pale in comparison to the power of......depression. Trust me on this. Brad was a lonely and sad man inside his heart, which is true tragedy. His death had nothing to do with any of those other things mentioned. Only he could attest to what he was feeling.
@tamerswan Yes, I have been a Christian since I was a boy. I recently (March 24, 2011) lost my precious cat. She died in my arms at 9:28pm that night right after we got home. She lost 6 pounds and the vet didn't seemed concerned. He was leaving for vacation for 2 weeks. My cat had an appointment March 25 and she died 11 hours before her vet appointment. He thought she needed her teeth cleaned because she was not eating. She starved to death. I cry everyday hoping I will see her in Heaven.
True Polar. Clinical depression consists of the DSV-IV Criteria for Psychological Disorders. It's a shame he gave so much but couldn't get any help. Many would have given their own lives to help this good man. RIP Brad
I think it’s nice and all that you are paying tribute to Brad for all his musical accolades and everything. But the bottom line is; he was the father of two children who most certainly did not care that their father was a has been rock-star. His selfishness for days gone by far outweighed the needs of his children; and that is truly the tragic aspect of this story.
I started listening to "Boston" in about '88 when I was 10. It didn't take me long to become a fan, and I remain a fan today! I wish he were still alive.
Very sad... He was a great talent, and seems like a very nice guy. I wonder if he was another victim of the so-called "anti-depressants." People fail to realize this is a multi-Billion dollar hoax, perpetrated on the public. Why is it you always hear about mass-killings when someone is "off their medication?" You don't hear so much about this side of it.
These people dont know that it was Carbon Monoxide poisoning that caused his death. He even posted a note on his door saying there was going to be carbon monoxide present the day he died
It is a real shame that Brad committed suicide he had a bright future but was depressed. He inhaled toxic fumes, that is how he died incase you were wondering. He was an AMAZING singer and I love all of Boston's songs especially don't look back that is my favorite song and u should listen to it. R.I.P Brad Delp you are and will be missed.

I want to say first that Boston is my all-time favorite rock band. This a tragic story - very sad. Brad's death shows me that rock & roll stardom leaves your soul empty in the end. He may have had personal circumstances that nobody else knew of like serious health problems. But regardless, from my eye he had so much to live for. Only God knows for sure. Farewell Brad.
weak person. the people who have real problems are the ones NOT living in the most affluent society in the world. some people are REALLY SUFFERING. they are not bored, frustrated , well to do millionaires who need a swift kick in the ass. the people who should kill themselves are literally starving to death . i have no sympathy for this guy
@66Polarbear sorry to burst your bubble with logic, but i dont care if you are a professional in the field. i know what im talking about , when someone is depressed it is a reaction to thoughts they are having, NOTHING MORE. this bullshit about chemical imbalance is a way for drug companies to make money. once you take control of your thoughts you will be depression free, but you will not be taught that in whatever school you attend because it is not LUCRATIVE .
It's hard to understand serious depression, and it's often outwardly happy, confident and successful people who suffer with it. I have been in the same position as Brad Delp (Minus the major stardom). It's tough being the mediator in a band that has so much infighting. As you get older things that were once easier to handle become insurmountable. Then what happens is, you take it out on loved ones and friends, which ultimately ends in some kind of loss. Clinical depression doesn't deal with "reasons"...Please, folks, stop speculating on "why?" Much info here is not accurate. His finances and his relationships were just fine.
Depression is the inability to get out of a cold, deep, dark slump, no matter HOW good everything around you is going. It's torture.
It's a chore just to get thru the day and put on a happy face. In the end, it's just too exhausting.
@66Polarbear he really needed to read Richard Carlson's book You can feel good again. most depression is NOT clinical, it is a product of our THOUGHTS. i doubt brad was clinically depressed. if he were, he would have killed himself much much sooner.
I know what you mean. I have Clinical depression & I am 1 year younger than Brad would be. I was born in 1952. I see a psychatrist. Since she doesn't have depression, she will never REALLY know how I feel. I feel like killing myself often, I have no purpose in life. I played in rock bands but never achieved fame & success like Brad did. My physical situation is better than a lot of people's. A friend keeps telling me, "Smile." I have nothing to smile about. I take meds. They are only a bandaid.
@66Polarbear You nailed it. I witnessed my ex go through several episodes, and there's no logic you can relate to it. It's simply screwed up chemical imbalances in a person's body. "Telling" a person to get happy when they're depressed is like telling a 5'-10 person to be 6'-5; it just doesn't happen.
it doesn't make sense, maybe it was murder,it's possible.........the only other thing would have been a major fight with his fiancee that set off the suicide,(that must be it). i'm surprised he lived in regular house like the rest of us with all the millions he had...then again,,maybe he wasn't that rich,,Tom wrote the songs, that's where the money is.
He was pure Vegetarian and follower of Hindu fate and had that feeling of White man burden if u know what i mean. But truly lovely man they said and lonely soul as he pinned in his shirt.
Saw them back in 95/96 with Fran Cosmo and Brad hit the stage and the crowd went wild!! Such a loss, like so many before him. But as Brad would want it it's "Don't Look Back!" Angelic voice....
They claimed not to know because the story had just broken and the police wanted to get their ducks in a row before they release any statements. But yes, it was charcoal grills. He was even so kind as to post warning notes on the doors so paramedics/fire department wouldn't be hurt. Such a good guy.
A friend from YT and Live Video told me about it and I was also in shock, a long time fan who saw them live twice. I heard he took his own life, found in the bathroom? Car running exhaust that killed him. He didn't inform anyone, but people think he was deeply emotionally effected by conflict within the band, which Sholtz objects to of course. A real shame. No one here has announced his passing in the media and that too is tragic!
Ya, thats a good point. I hadn't thought of that. Wonder if maybe the engagement was falling through or something. It disturbs me too. Everything I ever heard about Brad was positive.
well, we know now that brad commited suicide. he had a bright future, and yet he still commited suicide, saying in the note that he was a lonely soul. rip brad delp
I would imagine he was saying he was a regular Joe that didn't let success get to his head. Brad was a pretty down to earth peron...very caring. It's a shame what happened.
At least this news station gave Brad a report a of that length. Many times they just mention someone and maybe talk a little about the person and then move on. It really shows how much people cared and still do care about him. If I lived there and new him that well I would be completely devastated.
Unfourtunatly I never became a real big boston fan until after Brad died. I did see the band with a new vocalist last week and yes they still rock! Just not with as much heart.
Fran Cosmo sang on the Walk On album, and I still like that, and the last live show they did at our State Fair (in MN), Fran's voice is not far removed from Brad's
You know, maybe he had tried getting help and it just added to his pain . . . There's no way to know what makes someone make this choice, but it is selfish and hurts so many left behind wondering what they could have done to make it better for him.
I am so so so so so so sad!!!!!!! I only found out just recently. I was seeing if they were touring. I am 32 and Boston was the only thing that my stepfather and I could agree on and was glue of our relationship. What a tragic loss! There is absolutely NOTHING that could replace some one like Brad Delp. He is a legend. R.I.P.
The world got a little darker when he passed. I dont believe he comited suicide. How can someone with all those things to look foward too (marrige, reunion tour) kill himself?
not only that, but I am 100% convinced that Bostons music is Natures AntiDepressant, its gotten me thru so much, no1 who can belt that out could possibly b depressed. (Vampire hunters walk around with a boombox playing pieces of More Than a Feeling, whoever hears it and doesnt smile is staked on sight, it works flawlessly)
He was a very nice person, I can tell by his career and charisma even if I didn't know him personally and I know other people share the same feeling, simply, heh, more than a feeling.
R.I.P. Mr. Delp. Thanks for lending your legendary voice to our hearts.
I was watching this the night it came out, I was just flipping through the stations andsaw this I was like WTF! I almost cried, not even joking, Brad Delp was the best, and will always be the best. R.I.P. Brad!
I know how you feel. It is like "this can't be". I remember, I was watching CNN and I heard the music come across. I literally come to a stop everytime I hear his voice, especially on the Panasonic Toughbook Commercials. I was thinking, man, a tour announcement...then I saw the words "Boston rocker found dead"..I just fell apart..so sad and empty..
In a business w/many talented singers, Brad's voice was singular, and brand-marked the era of my teenage years. Who of my generation will not be ever haunted by the line "I see my Marianne walkin' away"? It lingers in the memory. My own faint hope would be that in his last moment he reached out to Jesus.
For all we know, he is spreading the word of Jesus' love with his magnificent voice. The beauty of someone such as Brad Delp is that they will continue to inspire generations of fans to come. Most of his fans are certain that Brad has now reached his ultimate charity.
I heard shortly after hearing the news of his death by suicide that part of it was owed to Tom Scholz firing Brad's friend and bandmate Fran Cosmos for copyright infringement. Scholz banned Cosmos and his son Anthony from Boston indefinitely. I'm sure that Scholz must be kicking himself now for it. Future touring for Boston is by now out of the question.
Apparently Fran and his son were sued for using the Boston name to promote their own scheduled dates. Of course, I found out that this was also not the case for Brad's suicide. Whatever the reason, I do believe that Tom Scholz has suffered from enouch public accusations regarding the death of his best friend and former bandmate. Rock on, Brad!!! You shall live on in the hearts of your fans!!!
yes, you're right about Tom..enough already, there are a few posters here on the tube that constantly bash Tom .its gotten to be too much. the guy is Boston & Brad is / was his right hand man & "the voice " .
At first I was in shock and so sad. Then when I found out it was suicide it made it even worse. From this broadcast it's obvious that he was truly a kind, humble guy.
What a brilliant, stellar voice he had. He had the best of both worlds: beauty and power; the combination made him the best of all rock singers. Teach the angels a thing or two about singing, Brad. Goodbye.
Haunting; no foul play. As it turned out, Brad's pressures were turned on himself. I feel so bad about this. His neighbors thought the world of him. What must they be thinking today? Brad wouldn't hurt a fly but I suppose he carried a world of pain he couldn't reasonable address.
It was confirmed by his family yesterday that it was a suicide. It hurts me that he felt there was no way around his problems other than that. It really hurts me.
It's a shame when the world loses another talented and truly kind, wonderful human being. Brad delp is an excellent example of how to be humble, gracious and be true to your roots, not matter what your status in society may be. What a class act, unbelievable vocalist and kind human being. RIP!
You're sooo lucky.. so many of his fans have been waiting to see him live, perhaps even meet him. Now they will never get that chance, myself included. Delp was the greatest contribution to any band and is the inspiration to many new singers, again, I am but one of these millions of people. I love you, Brad!!!! R.I.P. my friend..
How I wish, I could have had the chance to meet this man...We miss you Brad...Rest in Peace

It's a chore just to get thru the day and put on a happy face. In the end, it's just too exhausting.

very true, depression is a sickness not an emotion
rockboot90 3 years ago 9
@66Polarbear he really needed to read Richard Carlson's book You can feel good again. most depression is NOT clinical, it is a product of our THOUGHTS. i doubt brad was clinically depressed. if he were, he would have killed himself much much sooner.
OralAgreement69 1 year ago
I know what you mean. I have Clinical depression & I am 1 year younger than Brad would be. I was born in 1952. I see a psychatrist. Since she doesn't have depression, she will never REALLY know how I feel. I feel like killing myself often, I have no purpose in life. I played in rock bands but never achieved fame & success like Brad did. My physical situation is better than a lot of people's. A friend keeps telling me, "Smile." I have nothing to smile about. I take meds. They are only a bandaid.
toymaster7425 1 year ago

Yes, sadly suicide. From what I know, one of the best guys you could ever want to meet. Freaking sad. Amazing voice. This makes me very sad.
drugsandvomit 3 years ago 2
What I don't understand was they claimed to not know the cause.
Did he not die from suffocating on grill smoke?
I would think it would be obvious the cause, if the room is smokey or for that matter there is a grill in it.
Yes, Delp was amazing.
RIP delp
WisconsinParkour 3 years ago
They claimed not to know because the story had just broken and the police wanted to get their ducks in a row before they release any statements. But yes, it was charcoal grills. He was even so kind as to post warning notes on the doors so paramedics/fire department wouldn't be hurt. Such a good guy.
drugsandvomit 3 years ago 3
A friend from YT and Live Video told me about it and I was also in shock, a long time fan who saw them live twice. I heard he took his own life, found in the bathroom? Car running exhaust that killed him. He didn't inform anyone, but people think he was deeply emotionally effected by conflict within the band, which Sholtz objects to of course. A real shame. No one here has announced his passing in the media and that too is tragic!
MetallicBill 3 years ago
This still disturbs me. I have been a Boston fan since '76. Saw them once with Brad.
I keep wondering what his fiance has to say about this. Surely she if anybody would have had some insight into Brad's mental state.
dl1027 3 years ago
Ya, thats a good point. I hadn't thought of that. Wonder if maybe the engagement was falling through or something. It disturbs me too. Everything I ever heard about Brad was positive.

R.I.P. We will all miss you!

That is just as shocking to hear as his attempt to kill himself with no good reason. ROCK with Boston, even in the game GTA (SanAn)

Fran Cosmo sang on the Walk On album, and I still like that, and the last live show they did at our State Fair (in MN), Fran's voice is not far removed from Brad's
MetallicBill 3 years ago
You know, maybe he had tried getting help and it just added to his pain . . . There's no way to know what makes someone make this choice, but it is selfish and hurts so many left behind wondering what they could have done to make it better for him.

He had the world in his hands, yet; his hands were too small to hold as much of the world as he wanted to.

WeAreLegion527 3 years ago
What a tragedy.
He was a very nice person, I can tell by his career and charisma even if I didn't know him personally and I know other people share the same feeling, simply, heh, more than a feeling.
R.I.P. Mr. Delp. Thanks for lending your legendary voice to our hearts.

My own faint hope would be that in his last moment he reached out to Jesus.
pnutbutrncrackers 4 years ago
For all we know, he is spreading the word of Jesus' love with his magnificent voice. The beauty of someone such as Brad Delp is that they will continue to inspire generations of fans to come. Most of his fans are certain that Brad has now reached his ultimate charity.
lingling86 4 years ago 5
I heard shortly after hearing the news of his death by suicide that part of it was owed to Tom Scholz firing Brad's friend and bandmate Fran Cosmos for copyright infringement. Scholz banned Cosmos and his son Anthony from Boston indefinitely. I'm sure that Scholz must be kicking himself now for it. Future touring for Boston is by now out of the question.
lingling86 4 years ago
what exactly did Fran do or was accused of?
Did he record something that sounded too close to a Boston tune?
MOSKII58 4 years ago
Apparently Fran and his son were sued for using the Boston name to promote their own scheduled dates. Of course, I found out that this was also not the case for Brad's suicide. Whatever the reason, I do believe that Tom Scholz has suffered from enouch public accusations regarding the death of his best friend and former bandmate. Rock on, Brad!!! You shall live on in the hearts of your fans!!!
lingling86 4 years ago
yes, you're right about Tom..enough already, there are a few posters here on the tube that constantly bash Tom .its gotten to be too much. the guy is Boston & Brad is / was his right hand man & "the voice " .
MOSKII58 4 years ago
I also cannot shake the sadness felt by his death.
Although, I do understand depression first hand.
I have felt the effects and know depression can
drive a person to do many things. I also know that
it is possible to be depressed for no reason.
Not to say he didn't have one but it sure seemed
from everything I've read he had an amazing life.
Only he knows why he did what he did. And maybe
even he did not know. His voice will live on.
bostonfan83 5 years ago
At first I was in shock and so sad. Then when I found out it was suicide it made it even worse. From this broadcast it's obvious that he was truly a kind, humble guy.
What a brilliant, stellar voice he had. He had the best of both worlds: beauty and power; the combination made him the best of all rock singers. Teach the angels a thing or two about singing, Brad. Goodbye.

MSN headline news stated "Boston singer died" Not Boston lead singer died! How pathetic!
acerman66 5 years ago
Haunting; no foul play. As it turned out, Brad's pressures were turned on himself. I feel so bad about this. His neighbors thought the world of him. What must they be thinking today? Brad wouldn't hurt a fly but I suppose he carried a world of pain he couldn't reasonable address.
fluffyxdestroy 5 years ago
It was confirmed by his family yesterday that it was a suicide. It hurts me that he felt there was no way around his problems other than that. It really hurts me.

It's a shame when the world loses another talented and truly kind, wonderful human being. Brad delp is an excellent example of how to be humble, gracious and be true to your roots, not matter what your status in society may be. What a class act, unbelievable vocalist and kind human being. RIP!
