I have watched NASCAR since I was a little girl in the 80's, and saw so many races on TV with my older sister, my Mom and my Dad. Dad would always get goosebumps before every race (especially the Daytona 500). When Dale Earnhardt won the Daytona 500 we all cheered!! Finally he won!! When he wrecked at Daytona in 2001, we listened by the radio for any report on his condition..and then we heard that he had died...we couldn't beleive it...Dale Earnhardt was the greatest in the history of NASCAR
the days of thunder music is just perfect. i was seven or eight when that movie came out and it was one of the things that got me into racing. no im not a crash lover but it was what hooked me on racing. in kindergarten i refused to print my own name i always put cole trickle on my school work. dumb i know but hey i was a kid. this vid just makes me cry. dale lives forever in the memories his family friends and fans have.
*I looked back at the car and said man the wheels are still on that car i got outta the ambulance and asked the guy inside the car i said see if itll crank and he cranked it up and i said get out gimme the car back* GREATEST DRIVER OF ALL TIME RIP SENIOR MAY THE ANGELS BE WITH YOU! I MISS YOU

Earnhardt is the reason that I started watching NASCAR. Unfortunately, Jeff Gordon became the leading figure for NASCAR and now I'm a Jimmie Johnson fan. But its great to know that Jr. will be hanging out with the Hendrick boys. RIP Sr.
i miss dale all the time and whenever i watch the daytona 500 i know hes never going to ride around that trackk againn he was a trueely good racer ): dale earnhardt jr. races swell too (: carrying on the memory. ill never forget you dale when i was 3 and watched id be like GO DALE GO DALE :/ woah i loevd daleee );
he is and always will be the working man's man! People and especially this young generation should work as hard as he did. He wasn't handed anything and yeah, his dad didn't give him anything, except pride and determination. Do you get the picture people! Best things any parent can give you. You made us proud Dale.
not gonna lie but this is the best video i have EVER seen on Youtube great work Adam i still give the fist pump when Dale takes the checkered at Daytona in 98
It took alot of work using the original NASCAR logo, cleaning up the color bar background. And then placing the letters back in. The As and the SC are actually cut out of the original NASCAR letters. The D and M I got from a font that was pretty similar block letter styling. (The whole font was not so close but alot of letters were). I placed the D and M, angled them and got the width of the letters close and put it all together.
It really could'nt be prevented, when you have All Out Racing like that It gets Dangourous. I still have a Signed Autograph'd Photograph of him, Those 6 seconds were the greatest of my life but those 20 minutes I spent watching the crash over and over again after I got word that he had Passed away were deffinetly the worst of my life. #3 forever
I still think if the 36 car wasnt there, Dale woulda been fine. Look at the replay, I think Earnhardt would have just hit the wall on his side and would have been ok, not head on.
'DALE' to Make Its Television Debut on CMT in an Exclusive Limited Run...
ONLY AUTHORIZED FILM ON RACING LEGEND DALE EARNHARDT TO PREMIERE ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 AT 8 PM ON CMT.
DALE will encore at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5 and Thursday, Sept. 6, with those being the only additional scheduled airings of DALE on CMT prior to the film's release on DVD next year.
I sometimes wonder if he had died before he even hit the wall. There was no attempt at all to correct the steering going from the bottom of the track to the top at impact. That thought has always bothered me.
It did break due to the installation of the belts being improper, which we commonplace at the time, each driver would install them at slightly different angles for comfort. The angle they were installed caused on of the metal adjusters to twist and tear through the belt. It was discussed and some pictures of the belt on the report that the independant group that NASCAR hired to investigate the crash. You can find it online still Im sure, It was pretty big, long and extensive.
Their required to wear the Hans or the Hutchens device...the Hans was invented in the mid 80's, the Hutchens was invented when Dale Earnhardt died...ive Heard multiple conclusions to how he died...the most likely one is when he hit the wall the impact killed him(post below), or under the red flag before the 500 ended, he loosened his restraints and didnt tighten them back up...but there is no way in gods green earth that the belts snapped up and hit him in the chin and killed him.
They are Required to Wear only Hans device now, they allowed the Hutchens device for a year or two after the crash, but now only allow the Hans Device. As for the cause of death, It was the basal skull fracture that ssharo2000 is talking about also along with the seat belt tearing (a belt adjuster twisted and tore through the belt) and causing his body to hit the steering wheel, breaking many ribs and his sternum if I remember correctly.
Dale Earnhardt has always been my favorite driver. I remember watching that race at my grandparents. When he hit the wall, it looked like any other wreck...nothing to serious. But when I saw the look on the EMT'S face...I knew it was bad. Later on, when Jr. made a speech about it, he said when he ran up to the car, he saw blood coming out of his ears. The crash didn't make him die, it was the seatbelt that had snapped up, hit him in the chin, and shattered his bones.
Actually it WAS the crash. When his head went forward from the impact it severed his carotid artery and spinal cord. It's called a basular skull fracture. The blood from his ears was internal bleeding, blood that was no longer going to his brain. Sorry to get too graphic. That's why they're required to wear the HANS device now. It secures the helmet to the seat to limit forward movement of the head in an impact.
I'll be honest, I hated Dale Earnhardt as a kid. I was a huge Ford fan (mostly Davey Allison), and seeing that "big mean guy in that darn black Chevy" always made me mad. But when he won the 500 in 1998, I was standing on my couch applauding and screaming for him. Whether you loved him or hated him, EVERYONE cheered for him when he won Daytona. Its a race I will never forget, even surpassing Dale Jr. winning in 2004 (I've been a Jr. fan since 1996, LONG before he made it to Cup.)
I like when he draws a giant #3 on the Daytona Logo. That's style man, and it doesn't hurt the engine. I must be old fashion, because I didn't like the ending at all. Not much of a victory there.
Awesome video. I like the part where the music picks up when the announcer says the word "win" in "20 yrs trying, 20 yrs of frustration, Dale Earnhardt will come to the caution flag to WIN the Daytona 500"
