100km range is a bit exaggeration no? i mean the M777 can hit a target at more 40km with Excalibur (80,000$ each rounds), and Vulcano said they can hit a target at 90-100km with incredible precision...is a bit exaggeration, you can hit a target with 1-10m precision...and that is with UAV and Satelite+GPS and many correction before shoot a rounds.
I don't said is a bullshit system i just don't believe they can hit a target at more 100km with incredible accuracy.
Against a static target with favorable weather, it can well be the 100km range. The range will drop drastically against a moving target, which the situation requires more maneuverability from the round for trajectory adjustments to ensure a hit. Also with the low velocity of the round, it is of questionable efficiency against major ships with modern AAW systems or SAM batteries too.
Questionable against AAW or SAM? What? In such a situation, don't you think the gun could throw more shells at a combatant that said combatant is carrying SAMs?
Saturation attack is all good, but one have to consider the survivability of a artillery battery rapid firing large salvos in short amount of time. If I remember correctly, in 1991 Gulf War, it was estimated that Iraq front line artillery units have about 5-10 minutes to relocate before counter-artillery bombardment.
We're talking about a naval situation, though. And frankly, hardly any ship will waste SAMs on enemy artillery shells. Not to mention they still come in at a higher rate than the SAM launchers on most ships can respond to.
Don't think in traditional artillery. You don't even need to aim, only to put the projectile on air. To put it on short words, imagine a guided bomb launched by a howitzer, it's a guided round whose fins and aerodinamics increase the range, avoiding detection because there's not a traditional balistic trajectory.
This is not an exaggeration because Vulcano round actually glides after reaching apogee. Also, it is a sub-calibre round which means high muzzle velocity and low drag (and of course, less bursting charge).
This will be for both the 127/54 & 127/64 guns, as well as the 76mm right?

Soon this projectile will be employed by the 76 mm blindo "Draco" an anti-aircraft
developed on the "Centauro B-1" chassis on specific of Esercito Italiano.

I see your point. It will be an interesting scenario.

I didn't know that they would be configuring the vulcano for the pzh2000, the americans are working on something similar the ags for the DDX 1000.

100km range just by reorienting the projectile to maximise glide. Spiffy.
