@Skullpudding signals on there such as that started at 1:55 are typical signals used in classes (at the very least) that are distinctive 'next phase' signals. The Soloist at 1:10 used, what I believe were traditional, and the 'talking' (I forget what the actual term is) between the soloist and another drummer at 1:24 - 1:28 is traditional. (I haven't analysed the rest of the vid because it's too long, these are examples). Good effort from the group, they just need to be less shy and go for it.
I am also black and your comment is ridiculous. A Negative comment is negative regardless of the SOURCE. Take a moment to think about it. Maybe it will make sense to you if you try not to be judgemental.
Nice beat this is real music from the roots of the people.what country are you playing in the best music happens when people forget about the commercialism of it, and just get together and have a good time. here in miami each full moon 300 drummers and dancers get together and drum on the beach.real tribal. Live for the moment let the music fire your soul .....FANGA!

I really love this beat. I'll have to try to get a round of this going at our next meetup locally. It looks really fun.
Two questions:
1. Is this a traditional African song?
2. Are the beat and "lyrics" online somewhere, so I could send it to my "circle"?
Skullpudding 2 years ago
Not sure... our guide called it "Fanga", and I think ts origin is Mali...
nirco77 2 years ago
I found it using that info. Thanks!
From what I found, it's "Fanga Alafia", which means "Welcome" (Fanga), "in peace" (alafia). Which is an awesome message in any culture.
