The flower incident does point up the problem of gift-giving in general. Frankly all gifts should be discouraged with the exception of a particular request ("Dad, I wish I had that new video game"; "I could really use a new toaster"). Otherwise the chances of giving a gift a person wants is small. I especially dislike gifts of perishables (food), with equally untenable alternatives of eating it or tossing it. Worse if the person stays around after giving you a slice of pizza or sausage!

This man is sweet and has class. Madonna however could use a short lesson in manners. Ever hear of "if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything?" Yes, she can hate whatever she wants, and say whatever she wants, but she should remember that public opinion and sales are what keep her career going. In airing their version of the story (which shouldn't have been aired at all) they made themselves look no better than any rag mag, gossip fest.
