  • I saw a Standard Moderno in a funeral home today. I had never heard of that before. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera.

  • @sanders8323 I have seen only one in my life, and that was when I was in grade school back in the 60's! My friend had one. It looks and flushes like the Modernus but has a "fancier" designed bowl. The back part of the bowl behind the seat is extended to hide the flush elbow and make the toilet look close coupled. Unfortunately my friend's Moderno bowl cracked, leaked, and was replaced by a Mansfield back in 1970 or 71!!

  • Another great reverse trapway toilet made by Standard was the Standard Compton(another favorite of mine, especially when paired with the 4049 tank). It was the close coupled cousin of the Modernus. The Compton & Modernus are my favorites.

  • @MrBrombomb Your favorites and mine too. If I could find a Compton bowl, I already have the 4049 tank that goes with the 1950s Cadet. It seems that the Compton had become scarcer than the Modernus here in VT.

  • Amazing toilet. I'd love to see this one.

  • @dieselducy That bowl may end up going back in that same spot once I get the rest of the collection installed and videoed. Right now, it's in storage. The tank in this video is now connected to the bowl shown in video 16. The Modernus has always been my favorite, and is the "Gold Standard" to which I compare toilets to.

  • Wow, what elegant lines. 1930's gothic.

  • @jdollinter You have that right! I saw a lavatory from that time that must have been a companion to the Modernus toilet. The faucet handles and the lever for the pop up drain stopper were miniatures of the Modernus flush handle.

  • @BoyneMaiden The water comes from a brook and then goes to the septic system.

  • Hey thanks for uploading these! So is the tank orginal too? WOW! Looks bran new! Isnt this where you had the classic 1950s Eljer?

  • @Landaux Yes, the tank is original, around 1933. This is the same spot where the Eljer is now. It's the 1/2 bath in the shed at my cabin that I put in around 1996. I'll be making a slide show of some of my others, most of which have been installed in that spot.

  • For TurboCathedral: If I could get my hands on a Trylon, it would be a permanent fixture in the main bathroom of my cabin; forward trapway which I prefer, no flush elbow to leak in the spring, and that that washdown jet is awesome! I think there are variations in the casting of the Modernus. Some are faster than this one, as in my video of the Modernus in my home.

  • For TurboCathedral: That camera was replaced last year. It had a focusing problem which caused that noise. You can actually see it in the video. It ruined quite a number of videos, plus regular photos were often blurred or looked washed out. When I put the Modernus back into that spot, I'll reshoot the video with a camera that works.

  • It doesn't seem as powerful as the Ejecto. I like the way they shaped the trapway though...it's like they're restricting the water flow to that narrow channel to enhance the siphon effect. There's nothing like the Kohler Trent and Trylon toilets, with that washdown jet at the back of the bowl though.

  • Dude...what is up with your camera and that annoying noise?
