Furthermore if all the banks crash then the economy crashes with it. The government needed to bail out the banks or millions if not billions of people, (not only Americans) would lose their houses, their money and most of all their trust in the government and the economy. Trust is what all forms of economics build on.
If you get lied to in a investment deal you should have documentation of that lie in the deal. With that documentation you can easily sue the bank and get your money back.
If you didn't get documentation of the promise made by the bank then sorry! You have to blame yourself for being naive.
You are wrong on the banks aswell. The only thing that would happend is that banks that didn't make stupid investments would by up the assets/costumers of the failing banks and house prices would drop.

But the Socialist definition have gone through a transformation during the 20th century with the splitting of the socialist paries. The far left formed communist parties and the center/right formed the Social Democratic paries.

@firestrings272 Oh, please! Thats communism and the five year plan. Socialism have evolved since then and merged with liberal values. That mostly means that it works as an equalizer. Not taking away differences between people instead it balances things so that the poor, sick and unemployed gets taken care of in exchange for higher taxes. And as long as the taxes goes to something useful i don´t mind paying them.

If you were really that altruistic, why would you trust your money to a government that is, by nature, corrupt and inefficient? Start a private charitable foundation to help the old and needy through donations, then you'll be sure to be effective and efficient because then you'd have fiduciary responsibility, the gov't does not have that.

@Calimbandil87 In theory it sounds great but in reality socialism is precisely like medieval feudalism.Everyone works but nothing is yours.So you get a central figure to determine what the whole needs and allocates accordingly. And that has been an absolute failure. And if you live with a govt that is not corrupt and efficient, then good for you but,unfortunately,that would be the exception,not the rule.Capitalism=production and competition.Fascism=monopoly and exploitation.Both are not the same

@firestrings272 And neither works. I do not promote pure socialism that doesn't work. But neither does capitalism and it will ruin this world. I would like more socialism and less capitalism but not any extremes. As in most cases the black and white world does not work and the most optimal form of governing a country is somewhere in between. Most of the political ideals are from the 1800s so the founding principles are somewhat outdated anyway.

Everyone loves to give Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as examples of failure of Capitalism but those are Government Owned corporations.

This movie is misleading just like all his films are. He makes everything out to be black and white which isn't. We aren't a capitalist country anymore more of a corporatist, I blame both parties for the economic issues we have today.

No! You are totally wrong! Sweden and Norway. Two of the most socialistic countries in the world did the exact same thing as the US. Prop up big companies with easy credit from the GOVERNMENT.
In a real capitalist system nobody is "TO BIG TO FAIL" so all the big banks should have gone bankrupt and all the people who made stupid investments should loose their investsments and those who made investments on false promises should get money back.

Most people didn't make stupid investments, the U.S. Banks simply lied to them, and should the investors be punished simply because the Banks lied?
Furthermore if all the banks crash then the economy crashes with it. The government needed to bail out the banks or millions if not billions of people, (not only Americans) would lose their houses, their money and most of all their trust in the government and the economy. Trust is what all forms of economics build on.

If you get lied to in a investment deal you should have documentation of that lie in the deal. With that documentation you can easily sue the bank and get your money back.
If you didn't get documentation of the promise made by the bank then sorry! You have to blame yourself for being naive.
You are wrong on the banks aswell. The only thing that would happend is that banks that didn't make stupid investments would by up the assets/costumers of the failing banks and house prices would drop.

If you take the encyclopedic definition of the both terms Sweden and Norway doesn't qualify for any of the definitions.
But the Socialist definition have gone through a transformation during the 20th century with the splitting of the socialist paries. The far left formed communist parties and the center/right formed the Social Democratic paries.
So the modern definition of a "socialist" and the people who refer to themself as socialists are the Social Democratic Parties in Swe for example.
