He rarely sings that song anymore so it's lipsync. First song is live, very similar to studio version but some slight differences like 1:10 the note is held louder and stronger. Also the microphone volume fades in in the beginning.

At 5:40 some of you may think it's lipsync because he moves the microphone away while his voice is still clear. I still think it's live though. For some of these songs where he does not swing the mic around they crank up the mic sensitivity. Something similar happened in Opera 1 in Xian China 2009 when he swung the mic in one part but there was no difference. At 6:46 you can hear it's definitely live, he sings that different to the studio version.

The great thing about this performance vs. the 2003 Songs of My Mother performance is that there's far less reverb and echo used, so we can hear him clearly.

With good memory and practice, one can sing like the original track. That's exactly what Vitas does, he remembers EVERY vibrato.

vitas is amazing but he has a 5 octave vocal range (officially, it was mentioned on rusian TV) not 7.3!... vitas doesn't have whistle register... only has a very well developed and high falsetto (like all modern countertenors). Dedication is his highest song and goes up only to an Eb6.

NOTE: Adam Lopez really has an 8 octaves vocal range (from Eb0 to Eb8!). But he has the guinness record for his voice. (But I still prefer Vitas till the end!! :D)

Note: Adam Lopez may have a higher range, but technically he does not sing them. Vitas belts the tones where as Lopez' are in a whistle range and basically just forcing the tone out. Therefor you can't really compare the two.

Not sure what vid he's talking about, but I think the best proof is "Vitas Smile Live in Xian" if you listen carefully you can hear his voice when he moves that mic away... He also sings off-time there on purpose... The mic sensitivity is also quite strong for some other parts of the concert; in fact there's no effect when he swings the mic around in the beginning Opera 1. That might make ppl think he's lipsyncing but in most live concerts he does not vibrato before hitting the first high Bb...

Ummm... you do realise they are different performances, different venues, different mics? Even in the same performance the mics sensitivity can be adjusted and there's always a personnel ensuring it's just right for whatever effect the singer is going for?

There are times when he lip-syncs, like the Opera 2 on a swing in Kremlin and the Beijing Olympics concert. But I've been in the 3rd row audience of his Return Home concert and could hear is raw voice.

at 2:03 in this video, there's this really beautiful tone to that note... Really gets into your heart. But it's not there in other concert, such as Shanghai or Guangzhou. He also inhales less in the Guangzhou concert.

They crank up and down the mic sensitivity differently for each song, to suit a TV recording. In early concerts (watch Ave Maria 2002 or Soul 2003) the soundboard could only pick up a faint echo of his voice, but clearly the audience heard much clearer.

Yes, they have to adjust mic sensitivities for each song. Because if they were to televise a performance of Soul with a low mic sensitivity (Songs of My Mother 2003 is a perfect example) his voice would be so faint and full of reverb. They also have to adjust the mic sensitivity for Opera 2, Smile etc. to make more contrast when he moves the mic around. In the Xian concert they forgot to do that during Opera 1, hence no difference when he swung the mic briefly in the beginning.

Honestly, the only difference you will here between two different live performances of this song is the timing of applause. I mean, take it for what it is, I'm not trying to be an asshole... Don't even take my word for it, just try it for yourself. Like I said, once you get the timing right, the fact that he lip syncs at-least some times is pretty irrefutable...

Please tell me which versions you used so that I can compare them together and line-by-line and report honestly on what I hear.

I'm not so blinded by fandom as to deny any possibility he might ever have lip-synched even one "live" performance, but I've yet to find any evidence that he has, and I will continue to refute any suggestion that he makes a habit of it. His ability to sing flawlessly and almost identically on numerous occasions does seem superhuman: maybe he's really an angel! :-)

Well, I don't see the point of all that. A lot of celebrities lip sync at their concerts, it's just a matter of whether their lip syncing to their own voice. But there are moments in his performances where it's quite obvious it's live because his voice trembles or he makes a slight mistake in the notes.
