actully the photographer is still alive! his name escapes me but he has massive health problems he stayed in chernobyl for like 3 months after the incident
Apparently those around the plant from the distaster to around 5 years after at ground zero could actually see the radioactive particles passing through their skulls and vibrating in their ear drums.
People die every day you have to move on and except the collateral damage the facts are we are over populated and global warming will make many species extinct I would sacrifice 100+ humans to save one species. Unfortunately ignorance and government corruption has left us in this predicament.
pjam2825: You honestly believe that only 56 deaths have occured from this accident? Here's a fun fact: a couple of months after the accident so many people were dying from radiation, the soviets imposed a ban on doctors to record radiation a cause of death. On liquidator who was illegaly keeping a lg of the radiation he was exposed to was 5 times the amount thaat the government told him. Since then he has watched many friends die and suffers multiple illnesses.
I know a lot more than most thank you for one the accident was human error and stupidity nothing to do with engineering. Second a large wildlife park has been created. Third your ignorance is killing the planet forth there is new ADS thorium technology that is cheap clean and safe producing no long lived waste.
1)Reactor four was built in haste. The concrete used to build the reactor casing had a high aggregate-concrete ratio... meaning they had cut corners to get the work completed.
2)The reactor had a large positive void coefficient.
3)The reactor was constructed with only partial containment.
4)The operators violated plant procedure.
5)The design for the moderator and control rods was flawed.
However that said it is a very good design and to this day is the most powerful reactor in the world.
The other Chernobyl reactors operated for many more years after the accident there was no perceived risk by the IAEA and a reference to your fantasy is needed.
Well, the design itself was flawed. It didn't have a container shell, which is one of the worst mistakes that can be made when building a nuclear power plant. If this plant had had a shell, the surrounding area wouldn't have been exposed to such a great amount of radioactive material.
As TheBadMaus said above, the design for the control rods was also flawed. If you can't move the control rods, then your reaction will go on until disaster occurs because the reaction has gone out of control.
pjam2825 - you are clearly an ignorant, misinformed and probably quite stupid individual. If you bothered so research the Chernobyl disaster properly you would have quickly learned that your facts are so far from the truth it is laughable.
Listen pjam2825, dont listen to what the UN or the WHO tells you. Its all bullshit, do you REALLY believe those numbers? Of the 600,000 workers involved in the cleanup of this accident, 25,000 have died a pianful horrible death. They were basically summond to their death...many of them FORCED to work. Those number are crunched from people who want to preserve the reputation of nuclear power.
World Health Organization (WHO), attributed 56 direct deaths 47 accident workers, and nine children with thyroid cancer
No evidence of increases in the solid cancers and, possibly more significantly, none of the widely expected increases in leukemia have been found in the population in the last 20 years how many will die with greenhouse and coal smog?
Those people filming the Chernobyl accident in 1986 got heavy and lethal doses of raditation. The soldiers that cleaned up and built that protective shield also got heavy doses of radiation and many died a horrible painful death. Just so sad.
The men that filmed this were killed by their exposure to the deadly radiation. It creeps me out to think of the men that first went into the plant to put out the fire, they were killed almost instantly.
I had read somewhere that the soldiers (human robots/liquidators) were given the choice of either being in the service for a full term or to just do this one job with a guaranteed early tirement afterward. I'm not sure what I would have chosen.
As for the red forest, I read that it wasn't literally glowing red. However, many of the plants and trees had abnormally sized branches and leaves.
Yes I recall reading something along these lines too, I recall they were given the choice of running onto the roof of the plant and sweeping up material/putting out burning material for three minutes, and not do any more military service, or decline and do full service.
Now that's some intense radiation. I wish I could find some pictures of the famous "magic trees" or "red woods" but unfortunately I dont think anybody took pictures of that stuff.
if you listen carefully the clicking in the beginning of the filming and the insect noise at the end is the radiation literally rusting/humidifying the camera's insides.
this was litlle less then 8 hours after the explosion and it's still burning !!

if it were not for those brave firemen who know's how many more would have died!
they were the bravest men on the planet
anyone who can feel themselves dying and fight on
is more of a man than any of us!
if those fires werent put out at the start teh radioactive shite would have demolished europe

How is it a good design if it melted down?
funkyfunction 4 years ago
the best design in the world can't prevent operator error.

I never said it wasn't flawed. Just that meltdown doesn't automatically mean design flaw, any more than plane crash = design flaw.

so actully this red stuff that they filmed is uranium or plutunium ? or what is it ? i dunno but looks nasty
returned2life 5 years ago
It irradiated graphite rods that normally stop the nuclear reaction in an emergency. Obviously they didn't work.
