The piano collections version is different from the OST version. I'd say the main difference is the inclusion of a swing beat (that's what I call it anyway)- where a standard pair of eighth notes is equal to a dotted eighth note+ a sixteenth note. (I am now trying to sound intelligent) The OST version was just in straight 4/4 time.

I'm not one to talk because I'm not a pianist and I realize this song is crazy-hard, but you could make the chords in the left hand at the beginning of the piece more staccato. That's how I heard it on the studio version of the Piano Collection CD. I know it's hard doing it while doing the very quick phrases in your right hand, but it makes the piece sounds so much lighter instead of heavy and stiff.

There's lots of pedal in the beginning part that InvertedRainbows is talking about. The sheets don't say anything about detached or staccato, so it's up to the performer. Yes, the version by Aki Kuroda is detached, and I actually think it gives it a quaint feel. Oh well.
