  • I give you the secret of secrets. The mirrors are doors through which the

Death comes and goes. Besides, do you watch your whole life in a mirror, and you

see death at work like bees in a glass hive

  • @fangorabbc You caught the best phrase - I love that one!

  • Excuse me for being weird, but I could not help but to compare the wallpaper in the set with that of Dreyer's Vampyr. I also noticed that there is a visible ceiling in this shot- very unusual in film.

  • Jean Marais was the lover of Jean Cocteau! People...too funny, dont even acknowledge this, or you just dont know?

subarasii : splended

  • I haven't watched the movie yet, but from what i've seen, it has an interesting theme with mirrors and reflections.

  • My favorite movie!!!All the way!!!So innovating for it's time and with so many clue meanings!!!!And beautiful movie stars(I mean real movie stars)!!!

  • Jean Marais is extremely handsom and charming.

  • C´est magnifique!!!!

  • Does anyone know where I can find a DVD or VHS of this film with English subtitles????

  • Francois Perier is marvellous in this film.

  • she totally punches like a girl.

  • there's definitely something about the mirrors.

  • does anyone have a link to the clip right after this part, when they go through the mirror and wander around (with english subtitles)?? i'm trying to find it for someone.

  • I believe the gentleman calling himself Bernard Profitendieu is pulling our collective leg. Everyone knows that Americans use the words "movie" and "film" with equal frequency. If an American uses the word "cinema," THAT's pretentious.

And it's pretentious for a Frenchman to claim he knows what's pretentious in America and what isn't.

  • scot: 'If an American uses the word "cinema," THAT's pretentious'

Well, some of us would like to use that word, but the last guy who did was carried off to a dark, mysterious place.

And some people say there they play films like 'Date Movie' and 'Disaster Movie' continuously day after day. ;)

In all seriousness, who cares what words are used, so long as people are actually interested in quality 'films'. ;)

  • Yes, as I'm sure you know, I was being facetious about the use of the word "cinema." And, just for the record, I don't use a knife and fork. I live on blood, like vampire bats, mosquitos and lawyers.

  • scot: To be honest, I didn't know.

Some people are extra touchy about language. ;)

    Just for the record, what type do prefer? A, B, O, . . . ?

  • Oh, I don't discriminate -- I'll suck anybody!

  • scot: Would that make Paris Hilton a vampire?

  • Not necessarily, but at least she does have one useful skill!

  • scot: But considering how much she's 'been around', I'm not sure if anyone would want her to perform it! ;)

  • Bernard Profitendieu suggests that "knowledge doesn't stop at the border." In his case it obviously does:

"A beautiful film about several nasty people" - Roger Ebert

    "More film Reviews" - Variety

"Writer-director Zoya Akhtar displays assured storytelling skills in a film about chasing fame in India's movie industry." Los Angeles Times

"All New York Times film reviews from 1960 to present are available." New York Times

  • I not agree that Marais "overact". He is one of the greatest actors of the XX-th century.

  • I not agree that Marais "overact"! He is a great actor. One of the greatest actors of the XX-th century.

  • Not everyone in the world uses Americanisms. There is more to the world than just the USA, you know.

  • Never in my life have I imagined the use of the word 'film' as pretentious.

The same goes for turning your fork over when you eat.

No offence, but perhaps you're not as knowledgable about the intricacies of the English language as you'd like to think.

Fair point about renting the film, though.

  • then you ought to let your imagination expand a little bit! - both are pretentious in the United States! (there are differences in both the use of English and of silverware between the British and the Americans!)

  • But you are French, correct? And living in France?

    Maybe just let it go...

  • knowledge doesn't stop at the border, correct?

  • was Marais ever in a movie in which he didn't overact?

  • I don't think, good point, this sort of acting was kind of a trademark at the time

  • great!
