The music echoes vividly the music from the haunting 'cave scene' in Leone's 'A Fistful of Dynamite' ('Duck You Sucker'), when Juan discovers his murdered family. Even the flute figures are virtually transplanted from that scene (unless it's the other way around - I don't know which came first!). Morricone does this a lot -- he reinvents a piece from one movie for the soundtrack of another.
I hated Mathieu. Splendid voice, but such shitty schmalz music. Until I heard her LP with Morricone. Of all EM-collaborated singers, her voice fits EM's music best. Something gels perfectly, although I have no idea what. And it's not only this CASSE track; all tracks on the record are sublime. Such a pity both didn't agreed to an encore. Three albums Mathieu/Morricone, ten, I would have loved them all.
@dedeurs You are not the lonly who hated or hate Mireille. This thing is happend when ppl are not good informed about ...she has a very extensive repertoire with really great compositions, the majority being unknow.Try also her album"Des tes mains".La noblece of her voice was the reason for what Morricone proposed her to sing many of his songs.Think that Italy has many great voices!but he choised her!
Mathieu had, and has a formidable voice, I agree. I simply dislike German schlagers...
But I doubt the choices of the maestro sometimes. Why was he so smitten with Amii Steward for so long? She's a mediocre singer lacking a characteristic voice.
I would have loved a collaboration with f.i. Frida Boccara, another formidable voice.
@dedeurs She has some german lieds and they sounds even better than Morricone. This language has a morphology very suitable with her vocal tehnic based on a great diction and very clear vocals.I recognize that the first time when i lisened her singing in german i was not agree. She has also many great performances in allemand like the version of "my way"(Sinatra) or try "nur du"

Jean-Lou d'Arc sur Tille-Côte d'Or
What a meeting of two great musical talents. I'd never heard this before and I immediately had to listen to it twice! The orchestral arrangement is lush and beautiful, a perfect compliment to the miracle that is Mimi.
Mimi gives a clinic that shows the human voice as man's supreme musical instrument, balancing and dancing with an entire orchestra directed by a master.
It's almost too much beauty! oh well, I have a new favorite Mimi tune. Thanks for posting this gem.
I really like this recording. I don't understand French, but I love the stylish composition and melancholy sound of it. Of course Mathieu is an expert singer and brings it to life
superbe chanson, paroles et musique sublimes.

In this song she follows Morricones style perfectly.
I bet she had to concentrate more than ever.
Bravo Mireille!

Thankyou, now I understand why I am unable to find "Le Casse" to add to my MM collection.
Perhaps even better than "Un Jour, Tu Reviendras?

A beautiful vocal version of Morricone's track 'Theme D'amour from the 1971 film 'Le Casse'.
The original version is a piano lead song but this is quite simly stunning.
Wow. Heartbreaking delivery.
