i remember an episode where they enter an abandoned building because of some trap ghost thing.

and the center of all that evil is a tree.

and is a long serie.

the manga is also called Ghost Hunt....I have read 9 volumes but there may be more, I'm not sure about a novel though.

The manga was based on novels (and they are complete).. but the novels haven't been translated. The manga is still ongoing - Vol 10 has just been released! The anime follows the manga storyline.

hmm... not exactly but naru sometimes shows some feelings for mai but it wasnt exactly stated who he ended up with because well... it wasnt it the anime. i would try reading the original light novel by fuyumi ono if i were you but its really hard to find, in fact i cant find it at all, just the manga and idk if it have the same ending or if they changed it -_-
