For the folks on this thread, the tactic he used is what we use in the US military. It minimizes your exposure while giving you the time to choose your targets. It matters a lot when the stake you play with is your life--there are no respawns in the real world (yet).
If you do something like this, and you are kinda roleplaying as a clanner you should be in a thor (summoner) versus a series of enemy mechs varying from medium to assault. If you can take a thor and defeat a masakari, galdiator, thor, madcat, ryoken, and a shadow cat, I would be impressed :)
@Arzaker The Marauder franchise of 'mechs is based on artwork of the Zentradi/Zentran Officers Battle Pod, the rights of which were leased legally by FASA Inc. the company that made the original tabletop game from Harmony Gold USA. After the lease expired they had to change art on the original, but the IIC and the 2 were both considered to be separate properties created by FASA artists, after they could afford to hire artists.
@Arzaker If i recall the Spartan was the one with the huge round missile pods for arms. If so it was the Longbow. If it had the missile pods in its torso then either Archer or Crusader. Your best bet for Robotech/VOTOMS to Battletech is to Google "Battletech" and "The Unseen." The biggest shame of it all is that the unseen designs are so iconic to both FASA and HG USA franchises and no fan really cares about the legal issues, and forcing FASA to adopt new models for the core 13 was a sad day.
I love Battletech and all of their mechs and games, especially Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries. I can't wait for the full free version to come out.
Also, many of you might not have noticed, but the music in the background is "Samus Vs. Essence of Metroid Prime" from the first game in the Metroid Prime Trilogy. I just happen to be a video game music fanatic.
Awesomness! I have this game on my laptop! But theres a downside...the game is from a torrent...soooo no MEKPAKS 4 meh. But once this game comes out legit free i'm making it my personal quest to get the packs.
Yeah, besides throwing away your honor and using an IS mech, not bad shooting stravag. Lol jk, besides the zel states that if your opponents stoop below the zel then you may also, aka: show the spheriods no mercy!
a very good fight, if anything id of probabaly of redesigned it to be a little more heat effective b ut other wise that mech just did well and hte marauder 2 is a great IS design
this is the Wolf's Dragoons (i.e. Clan Wolf recon unit) refit of the star-league marauder, so its classification as an Inner Sphere refit is questionable at best.
well this is true enough if you simply went by the who but this can be counter on that many innersphere factories churned these out meaning it may of been refited using clan know how but its still only innersphere tech, unlike the 2c which is produced in clan factories
@EvilBetty333 What? Wolf's Dragoons are a child group of Clan Wolf. The dragoons were given almost all their starting stuff by Clan Wolf. Then the Dragoons made their own way in the world. The dragoons were founded by one of the most important guys in Clan Wolf, a guy whose last name was Wolf. (can't remeber his first name & too lazy to look it up) WOlf Guy had a brother who helped him with his mercenary unit. Please study before criticizing or correcting. No offense intended
@ZombiezuRFER Jame Wolf, founded the Wolf's Dragoons as an insurgency unit along side the Kell Hounds and Snord's Irregulars. The Dragoon's were the best among the three and by far the coolest, but fell to Deculture corruption from the Inner Sphere, and were a driving force for Clan Wolf's integration after the battles of Luthian and Tharkad halted all foward momentium of the Clan invasion.
@EvilBetty333 Wolf's Dragoons were an insurgency unit of Clan wolf, and one of the reasons why they carved out the largest chunk of the 'sphere without help from a support clan. They were also a driving force behind integration later on after they brought back IS Deculture and the advancement of the clans was blunted at Tharkad and Luthien.
Lol I find the Guass Rifle to be quite nice also find the ER PPC to be more heat efficient then the ER Lrg laser.....idk how that is but it just is, my mechs in MW4 vengeance get worse heat ratings and suck up more tons for heatsinks w/ Lrg Lasers haha
yeah i get where your going at and i can understand rationing ammo which i personally consider a pain myself (was never into the whole autocannon thing) and i guess going energy based would mean you would have enough tonnage to put out towards the heat sinks.. only problem at that point i find is that the slots designed on the Marauder IIC wouldnt be effective for damage using all of its energy points. i've tryed energy based so many times and keep running into that problem, except with nova cat
to oppose to your last statement about the railgun
1. you do it right you only have to sacrifice just the speed and the jump jets..
2. you play in a way that you try to go out in open combat as much as possible, im talking about if you actually strategize yourself with the gun,
3. .. if you get a shot off on a guy with the railgun, it disorients him long enough kill the rest of him, and after the first shot hes just gonna be worried about whether he survives, not if he can kill the gun
the railgun has its uses. I use it quite a bit, just not on this design. Like I was saying, this is my story mech as well, and its current loadout is very good at dealing with common story situations; like multiple light mechs etc. also, this loadout does about the same damage as the railgun with half the recharge time. finally, i wanted a mech that was mainly energy-based, negating the need to ration ammo. Heat is the only limiting factor, and its not bad as long as its not a desert level.
the fafnir is actually bulky yes i admit that but its armor capabilities usually compensate for that assuming you dont have a one shot one kill combo that your using, and fafnirs i will admit are not the best at close range combat but i can guarantee you with a long range fight that you can deal out more damage in a second than they could in about 5 seconds, as opposed to that versatility comes in handy.. only problem is once you blow off a leg the speed of the mech is down by 60% abouts..
yes of course your looking at the factors of speed, armor, firepower, and a proper allocated weapons layout, im just saying look at what the heavy gauss is worth compared to the rail gun, you would be much better loading that on as opposed to the heavy gauss cannon which doesnt do nearly as much damage..
and also mechwarrior is usually more or less about who kills who first... if you cant kill them fast enough your most likely dead.. i only know because i was more into the urban maps of mw4
btw i would also recommend if your into the one shot one kill using long range, i would recommend a fafnir using 2 heavy gauss cannons at the left and right torso while using erppc's at the arms.. at 750 meters (in game) anything 90 tons and below is usually dead after the first shot to the center torso, 100 ton mechs will take about 2 (maybe 3) shots to the center torso if all the weapon projectiles land correctly =D
-- the combo also takes out any limb on any mech with one shot...
The fafnir has its uses, but its too slow for my taste. and its torso is so big, its easy to pick which part of it you want to blow off. I dont use the fafnir simply because its lack of agility (low maneuverability and no jump jets). I like my mechs versatile in more than just offense.
ahh the marauder my favourite mech out of the entire mechwarrior series... i gotta be honest about your loadout of the mech.. HOW THE FUCK DO YOU ONLY GET 2 PPC'S ON WITH A HEAVY GAUSS AND MANAGE TO OVERHEAT?!?! back when i played i could load on the 2 ppc's plus the railgun and a couple of extra lasers! and enough heat sinks to not overheat as fast as you..
Ive balanced this mech out. Its complete loadout includes 2 ER PPCs, 1 Heavy Gauss Rifle, and a pair of Medium Lasers. this is my main mech for story missions, and i find the support aspect of the mediums very nice. This mech is also fast for its size, well armored, and has jump jets. any mech i use consistently has to have jump jets. Mechwarrior isnt all about offense; there are a variety of factors that make a good mech, and I think this variant strikes a nice balance between those factors.
If you ever were to take ANY 'Mech into a fight against FOUR human controlled Black Knights, you will get OWNED flat in a second. No matter WHO you are.
This video is about defensive techniques. Call it cowardly, call it lame, or boring, but at least he survived it.
And, chill with all that MW2 stuff. Different evironment, different techniques. PPCs are now faster. Gauss slugs are faster. And you do not get old wireframe blocky graphics.
He did do well, and the defensive tactics are a good idea in this situation. But, when I played (for some reason this game stopped working on my computer), I was usually in a Puma, Solitaire, or an Uziel (I don't know why, maybe I'm a masochist). And it got pretty ridiculous (and bloody annoying as hell) when a team of guys in heavies and assaults found these tactics necessary to fight me (minus heat and with unlimited ammo)...
Also, those Black Knights aren't human, they are AI
they're nothing like the battletech origanals. look and the owens and mad dog. the mad dog looks like a different mech based on the mad dog, and the owens' legs are too short and the torso twists. in battletech manuels, the legs are longer, and the torso fixed.
MW4: Mercs is an entirely different game. you can install Mercs without even owning the original MW4: Vengence. the mech im using in this video is from the MekTek MechPaks, so you would need to download those patches in addition to getting mercs.
though that cannon comes on the standard config, there are several reasons i didnt use the naval rail gun on this mech. for one, it takes ages to reload, and this combination of 2 ER PPCs and a heavy gauss rifle do about the same damage, and take half the time to reload/recharge. also, the naval rail gun is in one spot: that gun on the back, which can be blown off relatively easily by an experienced opponent. if that rail gun should be destroyed, this design becomes essentially useless.
That's not a Maurader. I used to use one a few years ago with a 2 ERPPC/RAC2 loadout. what you are seeing is from one of the newer MEKTEK packs. I'm getting set to load everything up again including all the packs so if everything goes well i;ll find out what that mech is.
It's a marauder 2. The Clans had the common Marauders from the time of the star league when they left the inner sphere and constructed this 100ton version after it.
Agreed. Taking a Mech that overheats a good deal into a fight like that guns ablazing really is a bad idea. When it comes to weapon loadouts (in general), I usually prefer to use Rotary AC5s, but to each his own I guess.
*Is also a supporter of Clan Wolf-in-Exile* I think my support for the Warden Clans stems from all of my Clan-based BT/MW novels revolving around Clan Ghost Bear. XD
i used to play MW4: Vengence online, and i wouldnt really call 30 kills a game getting "torn apart". that was a long time ago though. in addition to the fact that computer opponents require a different strategy-set than humans, any self-respecting warrior wouldnt parade around judging other peoples' skills without first-hand experience. you can criticize me all you want after you beat me in mech combat. BTW, i wouldnt advise using a 50-ton Uziel, hehehe. Aidan Pryde you are not.
yep, community mod, download and play online its aviable on the mektek site, as well as the registry hack for connecting to community servers (wich are still running).
if i were one of the enemys u would have die soooo soon

Oh, if yer wondering why I dont use the railgun, there are 3 reasons:
1) i would have to sacrifice speed and armor to have that cannon along with some decent arm weapons, and thats a sacrifice Im not willing to make.
2) the railguns reload time makes it ineffective in many situations. having insufficient support weapons only makes this worse.
3) armor cannot be added to the top gun of this mech, meaning that an experienced pilot would have no trouble blowing the railgun off.
ATown888 2 years ago
btw i would also recommend if your into the one shot one kill using long range, i would recommend a fafnir using 2 heavy gauss cannons at the left and right torso while using erppc's at the arms.. at 750 meters (in game) anything 90 tons and below is usually dead after the first shot to the center torso, 100 ton mechs will take about 2 (maybe 3) shots to the center torso if all the weapon projectiles land correctly =D

ATown888 3 years ago
that's from the mektek patch, mounting a heavy gauss and two ppc's, right? And...some major engine upgrades to move that fast.
A human player would have torso twisted to the side and weaved to avoid CT sniping. Still, good job

afraid of combat much?

Its called tactics. The most direct approach isnt always the best.
ATown888 3 years ago
XD

against human players u would be torn apart
EvilBetty333 3 years ago
i used to play MW4: Vengence online, and i wouldnt really call 30 kills a game getting "torn apart". that was a long time ago though. in addition to the fact that computer opponents require a different strategy-set than humans, any self-respecting warrior wouldnt parade around judging other peoples' skills without first-hand experience. you can criticize me all you want after you beat me in mech combat. BTW, i wouldnt advise using a 50-ton Uziel, hehehe. Aidan Pryde you are not.
ATown888 3 years ago
im sure alot of people would agree with me if i just got MW2 on your ass and took you apart with a riflemen or warhawk
EvilBetty333 3 years ago
Yep - Ah, i miss my precious Stormcrow with continuous laser chainfire that the heatsinks could handle. Trick was not to lose your legs lol
AvgasStew 2 years ago
Haha same with every mech, i suppose then they became a transformer whos alt mode was a turret lol
EvilBetty333 2 years ago

I've played Mechwarrior 4 Mercs for a while now and I have NEVER seen this one. Is this a custom mod, because it's not in the game normally.
