God touches all of us and gives us our own special gift and talents. For most of us, our small circle of friends and family know what makes us special. The world knew how God touched John Denver and how John touched each and every one of us when he was alive, sharing God's gift of music.
In this clip his Italian was very good - I'm Italian trust me. I learnt English listening to his songs when I was a teenager. Very touching... Thanks John.
you know what? I was too small, I haven't been there. I cried when he died. and never had the possibility to see him live. thank you for this, it's so sweet to hear him sing my language. I'm not a romantic girl but this is.
his Italian was good here he did good. this is why the world loved him so much cus he'd go out of his way to sing to his audience in their language, the man was not given enough credit when he was still around R.I.P. John you are loved and very much missed by the world including the animals god bless xox
I forgot to mention that Giacomo, who supplied the Italian translation of the lyric, was there in Assisi and at the concert the night JD sang Annie's Song in Italian.
Something tells me he was playing with the crowd - John was a perfectionist - and an overachiever - and he would have never attempted the Italian verse if he didn't know it perfectly!! I would think it is more of his sense of humor and his ability to make people really enjoy his concerts - than his lack of the Italian that you are seeing!!!
From one who knows Italian fluently- I can tell you that he was poorly coached (which was not his fault) undoubtedly by someone who supposedly knew Italian. I applaud him for trying. I agree- it was entertaining and as always, he performed it with class. As I watch this performance I find myself smiling because he was not afraid to try which was part of his character. I applaud him not only for this performance but for all he stood for!!
I, sadly, only got to one concert. That was in 1977 when he came to Dublin. He was amazing! I just never got to see him perform again.
Thanks for confirming my opinion that she was Casandra. It was very noticable during Baby you Look Good Tonight how JD kept turning around to look in her direction. That's what love does!
Yea- that's Ms. Cassandara- shortly after he'd met her in the Aussie bar. LITTLE did he know what he would be put through with her- in just a few short years too after they married in '88. Man oh man. Thanks for all your downloads michael- we all appreciate.
Ah, don't mention it. I always wanted to do it and for some reason, which I can't explain, it all came together over the weekend. I just did it and found it was quite easy. I have a lot of JD clips, including some still not on Youtube, so you can expect more.
About Casandra, I don't know enough about her to speak in personal terms. I can say that it was obvious that JD was in love with her in '86 at the time of the Assisi concert,.
The boy was a great singer and guitarist - but he just does not learn well!!!!:-)) He sang it in Chinese - and the Chinese could not follow him - they ONLY knew "Annie's Song in English!!! He sang it in Russian - they got lost too - they ONLY knew it in English!!! Nice version!!!
I think it is the thought that counts! He went out of his way to please his audience. He did it in Ireland too in 1986 when he sang in Cork. He did a verse in Irish! He didn't have to do it. He really was a unique performer.
I agree I attended 23 of his concerts - (1971 to 1996) he was well worth the price of admission!! He always sang Annie's Song in the language spoken at the venue. As he often said We are all intrinsically the same!
I remember in the early 1970's (just him, Mike Taylor, DIck Kniss) when he would stop and say "You're thinking - sure he can sing - but can he juggle?" and start juggling 3 balls!!!
And the dark haired women on the far left is his second wife - the Aussie slut!!
Yeah- he kind of killed the Italian verse but he tried and didn't give up! Annie's song and Back Home Again were two songs that were quite painful for him to sing because of the memories. Changing a verse into a different language focuses his attention and notice how from the beginning of the song he keeps his attention on the changing chords of his left hand- he does this in every video I've seen of him singing this song after his divorce from Annie. Annie was always in his heart!
I disagree!! John said in MANY interviews before AND after his divorce from Annie - that he LOVED to sing those songs - they reminded him of the very good times that they had together - and he was NEVER sad to sing Annie's Song - it reminded him of the memories of love - not the events of the divorce!!!
oh what a beautiful human being.

can someone write down the italian verse, please :) ?
tonny2k2 2 years ago 2
Here are the words to the Italian verse, kindly written down for me by my good friend Giacomo.
Annie's Song - Italian verse
Tu mi riempi di emozione come la notte nella foresta
come le montagne in primavera
come una passeggiata nella pioggia
come la tempesta nel deserto
come un calmo oceano blu
tu mi riemi di emozione, vieni fallo ancora
